Abstract
La invención se refiere a un extracto vegetal con propiedades biocidas y antioxidantes que comprende extractos alcohólicos y/o acuosos de plantas de la especie Geum magellanicum, especialmente de su raíz. Donde el extracto vegetal comprende catequina y epicatequina. El proceso de obtención de dicho extracto, y sus usos como biocidas, higienizante y/o antioxidante. Los extractos de la invención son útiles como biocida o antibiótico. Especialmente permite inhibir el crecimiento de los microorganismos patógenos Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli y Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Los resultados entregaron valores de sensibilidad similares a las de antimicrobianos como oxacilina, vancomicina, teicoplanina, gentamicina y trimetoprim. Los extractos de la invención sirven para preparar composiciones con capacidad antioxidante, tales como bebidas, alimentos o con suplementos alimenticios con capacidad antioxidante o composiciones farmacéuticas con capacidad antioxidante para la administración oral, o para usar sobre la piel. El análisis DPPH muestra que los extractos acuoso y etanólico presentan valores de actividad antioxidante mayor que la obtenida en estudios realizados a Aristotelia chilensis (maqui).
