Background technique

Applicants have previously developed elastic grips which successfully reduced the impact load on the user's muscles and arm joints and also provided a sense of stickiness between the user's hand and the grip, thereby improving grip. Prior art rubber grips. See, for example, U.S. Patent No. 5,797,813 issued to applicants on August 25, 1998, U.S. Patent No. 6,843,732 issued to applicants on January 18, 2005, and U.S. Patent No. 6,843,732 issued to applicants on February 22, 2005 Patent No. 6,857,971.

Some of these earlier grips used a polyurethane felt strip that was helically wound around an undersleeve that slid over and attached to the golf club. The sides of these strips are formed with overlapping hot-pressed dimpled reinforcing edges. While such grips have proven to satisfactorily reduce shock loads, such manufacture is labor intensive, especially since the strap must be manually wound around the following sleeve within certain pressure parameters. Additionally, since such strips are helically wound around the following sleeves, it is difficult to precisely align the adjoining sides of the strips. Additionally, these wrap grips tend to twist during the wrapping process.

Applicant's US Patent No. 6,857,971 introduces a single panel to overcome the aforementioned disadvantages of existing helically wound grips, while providing the same resistance to impact provided by such grips, as well as providing tack.

Applicant's US Patent No. 6,843,732 incorporates multiple segments into a single panel, which is then applied to the following casing. This design facilitates accommodating multiple color combinations for embodiments of grips made in accordance with the teachings of US Patent No. 6,843,732.

Applicant's U.S. Patent Publication No. 2007-0004529 mounts multiple double-layer panels on a backing layer. This structure facilitates the accommodating of additional multiple color combinations for embodiments of grips made in accordance with the teachings of US Patent Publication No. 2007-0004529A1.

Despite these improvements, other opportunities for grip improvement still exist.

While the invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, the invention will be described in detail with reference to exemplary embodiments. It is intended that changes and modifications may be made to the described embodiments without departing from the true scope and spirit of the invention.

Detailed ways

G。Figure 1 shows an embodiment of a grip G attached to a shaft S of a golf club GC. Figure 2 shows the grip G in more detail.

An embodiment of the grip G includes: a resilient mounting tube T; and a layered member or plate L wrapped around the tube T. FIG. The mounting tube T includes a raised portion R defining one or more exposed surfaces E. As shown in FIG. Ideally, the tube T includes a tubular body 48 having one or more raised portions R. As shown in FIG. The grip is limited to the grip surface GS. The gripping surface GS comprises the outer surface of the layered sheet L and the exposed surface E of the raised portion R of the tube T (see eg FIG. 2 ).

More specifically, referring to FIGS. 3-9, one embodiment of a resilient tube T on a mandrel 182 (FIG. 5) is shown. The tube T comprises a first end 2 and a second end 4 . The tube T also includes a hollow inner cavity 3 configured to correspond to the outer shape of the axis GS of the golf club GC. The opening 6 and the ring 8 are formed at the first end 2 , while the second end 4 of the tube T is formed with a cap 10 which substantially closes the second end 4 . The tube T has a support surface 12 extending substantially between the cap 10 and the ring 8 . In some embodiments, tube T is formed from a resilient material such as natural or synthetic rubber or plastic. For example, the rubber may include a mixture of synthetic and natural rubber such as EPDM (ethylene propylene diene rubber). In some embodiments, the ratio of synthetic rubber to natural rubber is about 2 to 3. Tube T may be formed in a mold (not shown), as known to those skilled in the art. In some embodiments, raised portion R is integrally formed on tubular body 48 . In this case, the tubular body 48 and the raised portion R may comprise the same material. If this is the case, forming the raised portion(s) R requires only creating the opposite raised portion(s) R in the mold. In this case, the material is selected to enhance the desired properties of the raised portion R while balancing the desired properties of the tubular body 48 . In some instances, it may be desirable to control the hardness, viscosity, torque resistance, durability, color, or other properties of the raised portion R in order to enhance certain properties of the finished grip G.

As shown in FIG. 7 , the connection surface 46 forms an angle α with a line tangent at the intesection of the connection surface 46 of the protrusion R and the support surface 12 of the tube T. As shown in FIG. The connection surface 46 desirably extends between the support surface 12 and the exposed surface E. As shown in FIG. In some embodiments, angle α is in the range of about 75 degrees and 105 degrees. In some embodiments, angle α is in the range of about 75 degrees and 150 degrees. In some embodiments, angle α is approximately 90 degrees. Friction on the raised portion R can be improved by forming ridges or valleys in various patterns (not shown) on the surface E of the raised portion R. FIG. In some embodiments, when the raised portion R is molded, a pattern may be formed. In other embodiments, the pattern is applied by altering the surface E of the portion R (eg, by grinding the surface E) after the molding process. In other embodiments, the raised portion R is formed separately from the tubular body 48 and is joined to the tubular body 48 to form the tube T by welding, adhesive, or other mechanisms known to those skilled in the art. Forming portion R separately facilitates forming protrusion R using a different material than that used to form tubular body 48 . In embodiments where multiple protrusions are desired (see, eg, FIG. 43), forming one or more portions separately allows for the incorporation of multiple different materials into the grip. It is also possible for some parts to be formed integrally with the tubular body 48, while other parts are joined after the tube T has been formed.

The raised portion R is generally configured with a thickness t R , and the tubular body 48 is generally configured with a thickness t T . The thickness t R of the portion R may be substantially constant along its entirety. In some embodiments, such as shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 , the thickness t T of the tubular body 48 varies along the length of the tubular body 48 and the ratio of t R to t T also varies. In some embodiments, the thickness t T1 of the tubular body 48 near the first end 2 is greater than the thickness t T2 near the second end 4 . As shown in FIG. 7 , the ratio of t R to t T near the first end 2 is approximately 1:1. In some embodiments, the ratio of t R to t T near the second end 2 is in the range of approximately 2:1 to 1:2. Even larger ratios up to approximately 1 to 3 and even up to approximately 1 to 4 or greater are possible. As shown in Fig. 6, the ratio of t R to t T near the second end 4 is approximately 1 to 1.5. In some embodiments, the ratio of t R to t T near second end 4 is in the range of approximately 2:1 to 1:3. Even larger ratios up to approximately 1 to 3 and even up to approximately 1 to 4 or greater are possible.

In some embodiments, the raised portion R forms a rod having a width w and extends generally from the first end 2 to the second end 4 of the tube T, such as shown in FIGS. 2-9 . In some embodiments, the width w 1 near the first end 2 is smaller than the width w 2 near the second end 4 . In some embodiments, the ratio of w 1 to w 2 is approximately 1 to 1.5. In other embodiments, the ratio of w 1 to w 2 is approximately in the range of 1:1 to 1:3. Even larger ratios up to approximately 1 to 4 and even up to approximately 1 to 5 or greater are possible. In other embodiments, the width w remains substantially constant along the length of the tube T, and the ratio of w 1 to w 2 is approximately 1 to 1. While in the illustrated embodiment the width w of the raised portion R is shown to gradually increase along the length of the tube T, other shapes or dimensions are possible for the raised portion. For example, the raised portion R may have a varying width w that varies along the length of the tube T multiple times. Alternatively, the raised portion R may be shaped like an ellipse such that the width w of said raised portion varies from a minimum distance to a maximum distance and back down to a minimum distance while moving along the tube T (see for example 43 ). The rod-like shape of the raised portion R serves in particular to provide the gripping surface GS with increased resistance to deformation forces (eg, rotational torque) while maximizing the use of the layered sheet L in the gripping surface GS. Increasing the size of the raised portion R and changing the position of said raised portion, such as shown in FIG. 43 , will allow for increased manipulation of the properties of the gripping surface GS. The one or more raised portions R help to stabilize the gripping surface GS while maintaining the beneficial properties of a layered grip such as tackiness or shock absorption.

As shown in detail in FIG. 8 , the underside of the cap 10 is formed with a downwardly extending slot 14 that wraps around the tube T substantially circumferentially. For convenience, as used herein, the terms "downwardly", "downwardly" and the like are used to denote a direction extending from the second end 4 of the tube T towards the first end 2 . Similarly, the terms "upwardly", "upwardly" etc. are used to denote a direction extending from the first end 2 of the tube T towards the second end 4 . Similar conventions are used to refer to other parts of the grip G described herein, such as the layered plate L described in more detail below. The slot 14 is formed by a lip 16 extending downwardly from the cover 10 . The lip 16 defines an inner surface 18 facing the support surface 12 of the tube T, a lower surface 20 facing downwardly from the cap 10 , and an outer surface 22 facing away from the support surface 12 of the tube T. As shown in FIG. The downwardly extending lip 16 extends over a portion 24 of the support surface 12 of the tube T. As shown in FIG. The uppermost portion of the slot 14 is defined by a downwardly facing surface 26 on the inner upper side. Preferably, the lip 16 is formed to prevent the support surface 12 remote from the tube T from bending. The slot 14 is configured to accommodate the top region of the layered sheet L, for example.

In some embodiments, the raised portion R has an upper region 28 disposed adjacent to the slot 14 . In some embodiments, the lower surface 20 of the lip 16 is configured to extend just above the upper region 28 of the portion R. As shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 8 , in some embodiments, the lower surface 20 of the lip 16 is configured to contact the upper region 28 of the portion R. As shown in FIG. In some embodiments, the lower surface 20 of the lip 16 is configured to overlap a small amount of the raised portion R, thereby enclosing the upper region 28 of the portion R within the slot 14 . In other embodiments, the raised portion R extends further into the slot 14 , and in some embodiments, the upper region 28 is integrally formed with the upper surface 26 of the interior of the slot 14 . In some embodiments, inner surface 18 of lip 16 is formed separately from raised portion R to facilitate insertion of, for example, the top region of a layered panel. In some embodiments, lip 16 is integrally formed with portion R. As shown in FIG. In some such embodiments, the slot 14 extends around only a portion of the circumference of the tube T. As shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 8 , in some embodiments, the lip 16 may extend beyond the exposed surface E of the raised portion R to strengthen the cover 10 . In some such embodiments, the inner surface 18 may be formed substantially flush with the exposed surface E. As shown in FIG. Optionally, the outer surface 22 may be formed substantially flush with the exposed surface E to form a substantially smooth interface.

Referring to Figure 9, the ring 8 of the tube T may be formed with an upwardly extending slot 30 consisting of a portion 32 of the support surface 12 of the tube T and a lip 34 extending upwardly from the ring 8, and preferably approximately circumferentially. Ground surrounds the tube T. The lip 34 defines an inner surface 36 facing the tube T, an upper surface 38 facing upwardly from the ring 8 , and an outer surface 40 facing away from the support surface 12 of the tube T. As shown in FIG. An upwardly extending lip 34 extends across the portion 32 of the support surface 12 of the tube T. As shown in FIG. The lowermost portion of the slot 30 is defined on the interior by an upwardly facing surface 42 . While the lip 34 can bend outwardly from the tube T, in many embodiments the lip is prevented from remaining in the fully bent position in which the lip is in a flat state, thereby fully exposing the tube T. Support surface 12 . In alternative embodiments, the outer surface 40 tapers toward the inner surface 36, or the inner surface 36 tapers toward the outer surface 40, such that the upper surface 38 is rather narrow and, in some embodiments, is about An annular point where the tube T extends substantially circumferentially. The slot 30 accommodates, for example, the bottom region of the layered plate.

In some embodiments, the raised portion R has a lower region 44 disposed adjacent to the slot 30 . In some embodiments, the upper surface 38 of the lip 34 is configured to extend just below the lower region 44 of the portion R. As shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 9 , in some embodiments, the upper surface 38 of the lip 34 is configured to contact the lower region 44 of the portion R. As shown in FIG. In some embodiments, upper surface 38 of lip 34 is configured to overlap a small amount of raised portion R, thereby enclosing lower region 44 of portion R within slot 30 . In other embodiments, the raised portion R extends further into the slot 30 , and in some embodiments, the lower region 44 is integrally formed with the inner lower surface 42 of the slot 30 . In some embodiments, inner surface 36 of lip 34 is formed separately from raised portion R to facilitate insertion of, for example, the bottom region of a layered panel. In some embodiments, lip 34 is integrally formed with portion R. As shown in FIG. To facilitate installation of the layered panels, in some embodiments the tube T will be formed with a central notch (not shown) provided on the outer surface of the cap 10, the ring 8, and/or both.

(EVA)。Referring now to Figures 10-31, various types of layered panels for use with tube T are provided. Aspects and properties of layered panels can be combined from the following disclosure. Typically, the layered sheet L has a thickness t L ( FIG. 12 ) and includes an outer surface 174 and an inner layer 50 , the outer surface of which is bonded to the inner surface of the outer layer 52 . In some embodiments, outer layer 52 includes a polymer. In some embodiments, the polymer includes polyurethane. Additional materials may be added to outer surface 174, such as a waterproof coating. Similarly, other materials such as fibrous mesh may be incorporated into outer layer 52 . The inner layer 50 may be manufactured from a fibrous material comprising, for example, wool, polyester, nylon or a blend thereof. In a particular embodiment, a nylon polyester fiber material such as felt is used. During the manufacturing process, some of the outer layer 52 may penetrate into the inner layer 50 . For example, when polyurethane is used in the outer layer and a fibrous material is used in the inner layer, some polyurethane may penetrate the fibrous layer. In another embodiment, the inner layer 50 may comprise a polymer such as ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA).

The outer layer 52 can provide the golfer with a shock absorbing grip on the golf club and can improve the golfer's grip by providing increased adhesion between the golfer and the grip. The inner layer 50 may provide strength to the outer layer 52 and serve as a means of connecting the bonded layered sheet L to the tube T. As shown in FIG.

50。The outer surface of the inner layer 50 in some embodiments is bonded to the inner surface of the outer layer 52 . For the purposes of this disclosure, the definition of bond is intended to have a broad meaning, including commonly understood definitions of bonding, adhering, securing, connecting, sewing, coupling, and bonding. The foregoing terms have their ordinary meanings, as will be understood by those skilled in the art. In some embodiments, the material used in the outer layer may penetrate some distance into the inner layer. When polyurethane is used in the outer layer 52, such polyurethane preferably congeals to define pores such as shown in Figure 26A. The polyurethane can be coagulated and bonded directly to the inner layer 50, or it can be coagulated first on an intermediate layer (not shown) and then bonded to the inner layer 50.

The layered sheet L may include a central notch (not shown) located at the top region A and/or bottom region B of the layered sheet, said central notch representing the gap between the first side region C1 and the second side region C2. midpoint between. The central notch can facilitate the application of the layered sheet L to the tube T to form the grip G. As shown in FIG. 12 , in some embodiments, side regions C 1 and C 2 are not cut, thereby reducing the cost of manufacturing these embodiments.

Referring now to Figures 13 to 16, a mold M for forming the friction enhancing pattern 54 is shown, as is well known to those skilled in the art. Friction enhancing pattern 54 may take any of a variety of shapes or combinations of any of the various shapes. For example, two such patterns 54a and 54b are shown in Figures 15 and 16, respectively. In an alternative embodiment, the mold 24 forms logos, designs, badges and other indicia (not shown) in the outer layer 52 . The mold M in one embodiment includes a heated platen 56 formed with a cavity 58 . As shown in FIG. 14 , the pressure plate 56 is configured with depending projections 60 that engage the outer surface 174 of the layered sheet L to form the recessed friction enhancing pattern 54 . The friction enhancing pattern 54 may also be applied to the other layered sheets described below.

In alternative embodiments, other patterns may be formed on or within outer layer 52 . These patterns may also incorporate embossed visual identities including designs or logos on the layered sheet L. In some embodiments, the embossed visual indicia is inked onto the outer layer 52 using suitable inks known to those skilled in the art. The inks in some embodiments are water resistant, heat resistant and are manufactured to prevent degradation when combined with lubricating fluids or solvents used to apply the entire grip G to the end of the golf club shaft CS. It will be appreciated that the figures shown here are illustrative only and that many other designs or indicia may be used with the embodiments of the grips disclosed herein.

T。Although not shown in the figures, a multi-segment single panel as disclosed in US Patent No. 6,843,732, which is incorporated herein in its entirety, may also be applied to the tube T described herein. In some embodiments, the raised portion R on the tube T facilitates connecting the multiple lengths of a single panel disclosed in the '732 patent to the tube T without first cutting some or all of the side regions of the panel.

17-20 show other embodiments of the layered sheet L1 , wherein: the layered sheet 64 includes cutouts corresponding to the layered inserts 66 , 68 , 70 , 72 , 74 . The plate 64 and the inserts 66 , 68 , 70 , 72 , 74 are arranged on a backing plate 76 . In one embodiment, the sheet 64 is cut, skived and otherwise removed and separated from a larger starting sheet of material (not shown). Plate 64 may also be formed according to other conventions known to those skilled in the art. Inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 are formed in a similar manner.

The plates 64 and inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 may comprise materials of one or more different properties and may be positioned to maximize the benefit of one or more of these properties. For example, there may be locations on the grip G that increase wear during use. Cutouts can be strategically placed in these areas of increased wear, and corresponding inserts can be placed in these areas. These inserts may include materials of increased strength, durability, stiffness, etc., which may make the inserts better suited to absorb forces applied to these areas of the grip. As those skilled in the art will recognize from the foregoing, these inserts may have different levels of stickiness. As will be further understood, the insert may be selected based on tack. In some embodiments where it is advantageous to have even greater durability in certain areas, instead of one or more inserts, raised portions R may be formed to fill these areas.

It may also be desirable to include certain regions of different colors. In this case, cutouts can be formed and correspondingly shaped inserts can be used in these regions with different colours. Additionally, the plate 64 or insert 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 may include one or more friction enhancing patterns such as those shown in FIGS. After layering the sheet L1, the sheet 64 or inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 can be manipulated to include these patterns. In the former case, the pattern can be formed when parts are cut out from a larger starting plate or the parts can be formed in separate steps. These different colors can be used on cutouts with the same physical properties. Cutouts with the same physical properties can also share the same color.

In some embodiments, backing plate 76 is an adhesive-coated plastic. The adhesive used is generally strong enough to maintain the relative position of the plates 64 and inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74; plate. In some embodiments, the liner 76 is removable after the plate 64 and inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 have been bonded. Optionally, backing plate 76 may comprise a thin layer of material for retention in grip G. As shown in FIG. For example, a sheet of fiber material or other strength material may be used and permanently attached or bonded to the rear sides of the panels 64 and inserts 66 , 68 , 70 , 72 , 74 .

As shown in FIG. 18, after the plate 64 and inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 are placed on the backing plate 76, the plate 64 and inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 are secured such that: The sides of the plate and the insert and the liner contact each other to form an intersection 78 . These sections 78 may include one or more adhesives that bond or connect the sides of the inserts 66 , 68 , 70 , 72 , 74 to the sides of the plate 64 . If the liner 76 is desired to be incorporated into the handle, then a liner 76 may be used between the rear side of the plate 64 and inserts 66 , 68 , 70 , 72 , 74 and the top of the liner 76 and along at least a portion of the section 78 . A binder of the chemical formula toluene (CH 5 CH 3 ), ethyl acetate (C 4 H 8 O 2 ), methyl ethyl ketone (C 4 H 8 O) and acetone (C 3 H 6 O). At least a portion of the interface between the outer layers may be a polymer deposit. If the outer layer comprises polyurethane, the deposit may also comprise polyurethane.

In some embodiments, the layered sheet L1 is placed in a mold similar to the mold M described above to apply the friction enhancing pattern to the outer surface 174 of the layered sheet. Additionally, the exterior of one or more sections 78 of the layered sheet L1 may be heated by corresponding hanging protrusions from the mould. Such heating may heat the outer surfaces of the plate 64 and inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 to bond the outer surfaces to each other. This technique is particularly effective in coupling the plates 64 to the inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 when the outer layers of each comprise polyurethane. In some embodiments, deposits of adhesive may be inserted along or within sections on the surface of the components of the layered panel to enhance the bond between the panel 64 and the inserts 66, 68, 70, 72, 74 s efficiency.

98。Referring to Figures 21-30, a method of forming a panel 80 having inner and outer layers that may be formed into another layered panel L2 is shown. Referring to the upper right hand portion of Figure 21, a supply roll 82 of a substrate 84 is shown. Base 84 has a top surface 86 and a bottom surface 88 . In some embodiments, substrate 84 includes a fibrous material such as felt or other fibers including wool, polyester, nylon, or a blend thereof. In one embodiment, substrate 84 includes fibers including nylon and polyester. The substrate 84 moves horizontally from the supply roll 82 to the left under the first polyurethane dispenser 90 . The first dispenser 90 preferably continuously deposits a first region of liquid polyurethane 92, such as polyether or polyester dissolved in dimethylformamide (DMF), onto the top surface 86 of the substrate 84 to form a second A web94. The first dispenser 90 preferably deposits the first polyurethane region 92 using a nozzle, spray head, or the like, and preferably uses a blade to control the thickness of the first polyurethane region 92 . The first polyurethane region 92 has a top surface 96 and a bottom surface 98 .

114。As the first web 94 extends to the left from the first dispenser 90, the second polyurethane dispenser 100 deposits a second liquid polyurethane zone 102 on at least a portion of the top surface 96 of the first polyurethane 92. on, to form the second weaving net 104. The second polyurethane region 102 has a top surface 106 . The second web 104 then moves into the water bath 108 contained in the first tank 110 . When the second web 104 is submerged in the water bath 108 , the polyurethanes 92 and 102 will coagulate to form a coagulation zone 112 on the substrate 84 . Condensation zone 112 and substrate 84 cooperate to form panel 80 wherein the condensation zone forms the outer layer and the substrate forms the inner layer. The condensation zone 112 has a top surface 144 and a bottom surface 114 .

As is known, the set time of polyurethane will be determined by the desired thickness of the set zone 112, with thinner zones requiring less set time than thicker zones. In some embodiments, the condensation process bonds bottom surface 114 of condensation region 112 to top surface 86 of substrate 84 to secure condensation region 112 to substrate 84 . Such a bonding interface 116 is shown in Figure 26A. A pair of rollers 118 and 120 are located within the tank 110 to level the plate 80 on rollers 122 and then upwardly out of the water bath 108 . The plate 80 then moves horizontally to the right between a pair of press rollers 124 . These rollers 124 compress the plate 80 to force the major portion of the DMF disposed within the apertures 126 down through the substrate 84 . Referring to FIG. 26A , the bottom ends of a sufficient number of pores are in contact with the top surface 86 of the substrate 84 to allow fluid flow from the pores through the substrate 84 . Referring again to FIG. 21 , the plate 80 then moves down through one or more clean water baths 128 (only one of which is shown) in which the temperature of the water is high enough to remove water from the pores. More DMF is diverted and this DMF is replaced by water 130 contained in tank 128 . From the tank 128 the plate 80 is passed through another pair of press rollers 132 to press more DMF out of the pores to be replaced by water 130 . In practice, it may be necessary to use four or five clean water baths to remove the desired amount of DMF from the pores. From the final water bath the plate 80 passes through a heating chamber (not shown) which expels any water remaining in the pores 126 so that it is replaced by air.

Xin Feng W.Rd.,Shi Jie Town得到。 In another embodiment (not shown), the substrate 84 includes a flexible temporary support for the polyurethane during the wet condensation process described above. Such a temporary support would be configured to be removed from the bottom surface 114 of the congealed polyurethane region 112 after the sheet 80 is formed. In such embodiments, bonding interface 116 is desirably relatively weak to facilitate separation of condensation zone 112 from substrate 84 . A temporary support comprises smooth, flexible nylon fabric and is available from Ho Ya Electric Bond Factory, Xin Xing Ind. Area. Xin Feng W. Rd., Shi Jie Town, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, China. Other materials include fluid pervious textiles (eg, cotton) or synthetic fabrics (eg, polyester). Typically, temporary supports have the fluid-passing feature and smooth top surface of a nylon fabric that allows DMF and water to be squeezed out of the polyurethane pores and allows easy peeling of congealed polyurethane from such temporary supports . Removing the substrate 84 from the coagulated polyurethane region 112 enables the use of only the coagulated polyurethane region 112 or provides the opportunity to use an alternative substrate. For example, a polymeric substrate such as ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) may be used in place of the fibrous substrate. The EVA substrate may include an adhesive coating that bonds the EVA substrate to the coagulated polyurethane region 112 . EVA with an adhesive coating covered by a protective paper is sold by the aforementioned Ho Ya Electric Bond Factory.

Referring now to Figure 23, a schematic illustration of a second dispensing machine 100 is shown. In FIG. 23 , the dispensing machine 100 includes a first housing 134 having a first dispensing nozzle 136 . The housing 134 is connected to a vertical rail 138 extending along the Y axis as shown. Rail 138 is in turn connected to parallel rail 140 extending along the X-axis as shown. The dispensing machine 100 is configured to allow the first web 94 and first polyurethane region 92 of the substrate 84 to pass under the nozzle 136 along the X-axis, preferably at a constant velocity (see FIGS. 21 and 22 ). The first polyurethane region 92 may provide a base region for the second polyurethane region 102 . In some regions, the second polyurethane region 102 may extend completely through the first polyurethane region 92 to contact the substrate 84 . Dispensing machine 100 is further preferably configured to move nozzle 136 in one or both of the X and Y directions. Additionally, nozzle 136 may be configured to start and stop depositing second polyurethane 102 as desired. The movement of the nozzle 136 in the X and Y directions and the start/stop feature of the nozzle 136 enables the ability to create a unique appearance that may include a random or semi-random pattern 142 in the second web 104 and in turn in the plate 80 (Refer to Figure 22). In other embodiments, the web 94 moves under a stationary nozzle 136 to create the pattern. For example, the nozzle 136 may be fixed along the X-axis, and the speed at which the web 94 moves under the nozzle 136 may vary. Similarly, the nozzle 136 can be fixed along the Y axis, and instead the web 94 can move along the Y axis. Optionally, the nozzle 136 can move in both directions.

In other embodiments (not shown), the dispensing machine 100 may include two, three, or more nozzles for dispensing third, fourth, etc. polyurethane zones. Such additional nozzles may be comprised in the same housing, a separate housing or a combination of said same housing and said separate housing. Additional dispensers may also be included on separate rails to further introduce other variations in the polyurethane coating zone.

152。Referring now to FIG. 24 , an enlarged view of the pattern 142 formed in the coagulated polyurethane region 112 of the panel 80 is shown. Generally, the top surface 144 of the condensation area 112 includes the pattern 142 because the first polyurethane 92 and the second polyurethane 102 each include at least one contrasting feature. In the illustrated embodiment, the contrasting feature is color. However, other contrasting features, or combinations of said other contrasting features, may be incorporated to produce patterns such as contrasting durometers or tack levels. In the figure, the first polyurethane 92 defines a first color 146 and the second polyurethane 102 defines a second color 148 . As shown in more detail in FIG. 25 , the pattern 142 on the top surface 144 of the condensation zone 112 includes a first color 146 of the first polyurethane 92 and a second color 148 of the second polyurethane 102 respectively. A first area 150 and a second area 152 .

The two polyurethanes 92 and 102 are coagulated onto the substrate 84 in the first water bath 108 as described above. Applying the second polyurethane 102 to a portion of the top surface 96 of the first polyurethane 92 prior to setting allows the polyurethane to mix and become integrated beneath the top surface 96 of the first polyurethane region such that : Coagulation of polyurethane forms a single coagulation zone 112 (see Figures 26A and 26B). Although the two polyurethanes are mixed before coagulation and the two polyurethanes are integrated during coagulation, each polyurethane substantially retains its original characteristics. The contrast of one or more features of polyurethane produces pattern 142 . Although the characteristics generally remain different, there can be some mixing along the interface of the two polyurethanes.

In the illustrated embodiment, the top surface 96 of the first polyurethane 92 cooperates with the top surface 106 of the second polyurethane zone 102 to form a substantially smooth top surface 144 of the condensation zone 112 . Contrasting colors 146 and 148 on surface 144 cooperate to create pattern 142 . If the first polyurethane is red and the second polyurethane is white, the process discussed above will produce coagulated polyurethane regions with distinct red and white regions, rather than a single mixed pink region. While the contrasting features of the first polyurethane 92 and the second polyurethane 102 remain substantially different, the polyurethane structure beneath the top surface 144 is preferably seamless between the different polyurethanes, with a preferably continuous pore structure (see Figures 26A and 26B).

FIG. 26A is a 100X magnification of a cross-section of the exemplary condensation plate 80 taken along line 26 - 26 in FIG. 25 . FIG. 26A shows by way of example a substrate 84 of polyester nylon fibers with its top surface 86 bonded to the bottom surface 114 of the coagulated polyurethane region 112 along a bond interface 116 . Top surface 144 is generally smooth. Desirably, the structure is substantially seamless on the top surface 144 between the first region 150 and the second region 152 and within the condensation zone 112 where the first polyurethane 92 and the second polyurethane 102 interface. Basically seamless. It is clear that the structure is not just seamless and not just coagulated, but that the two polymers are polymerized with each other to form the coagulated zone 112 . Thus, in the illustrated embodiment, condensation zone 112 is a polymerization zone. Condensation zone 112 preferably includes a plurality of generally vertically extending pores 126 , a top surface 144 and a bottom surface 114 . Pores 126 are formed generally throughout the congealing zone 112 included in the region where the first polyurethane 92 interfaces with the second polyurethane 102 between the top 144 and the bottom 114 . While polyurethane preferably forms the condensation zone, other liquid polymers with contrasting characteristics may also be used. Typically, polymers will bind in their liquid state and allow to come together. As the polymers are polymerized together, the structure of the polymeric region 112 will preferably be seamless while maintaining contrasting features on at least the outer surface 144 of the polymeric region 112 .

112。Figure 26B is a 500X magnification of a portion of the cross-section shown in Figure 26A. As is apparent from the figure, the first polyurethane 92 and the second polyurethane 102 are coagulated together to form a color gap between the first color zone 150 and the second color zone 152 and the polyurethane in the coagulation zone 112. Condensation zone 112 of substantially seamless structure.

Figures 26A and 26B can be contrasted with the prior art method of using paint to produce panels with multiple colors as shown in Figures 27A and 27B. In the prior art, a single polyurethane region 154 is condensed onto a substrate 156 to form a plate 158 including a condensed region 160 having a top surface 168 and a bottom surface 170 . To achieve areas of different color, a paint 162 having a bottom surface 164 and a bottom surface 166 will be applied to the top surface 168 of the desired set polyurethane 160 . The polyurethane sets before the paint is applied, and the paint will form thin separate areas on the surface of the set polyurethane.

The prior art method of coating the condensation zone of polyurethane 160 with paint 162 changes the characteristics of plate 158 . As shown in FIG. 27A and shown in more detail in FIG. 27B , the paint 162 is not integral with the polyurethane regions 154 . Conversely, bottom surface 166 of paint 162 is bonded to top surface 168 of polyurethane region 154 . In an embodiment known to the Applicant, the paint coating the surface has different tactile characteristics than the polyurethane to which said surface is applied, said tactile characteristics comprising a different viscosity or hardness. For example, a coated grip is generally less sticky in areas covered by paint than in areas of polyurethane that are not coated. Additionally, during use, the coating on the polyurethane may wear away, giving the grip a weathered or worn appearance. While valuable and unique, Applicants' other solutions incorporating contrasting features, including the use of multiple panels, strips and/or inserts, create seams between the various components.

The embodiments produced according to the above description allow the manufacture of grips with areas of contrasting features, wherein the structure of this area is seamless. For example, red polyurethane having a desired level of tack and hardness can be used with blue polyurethane having the same desired level of tack and hardness. Boards formed from the two materials include unique color patterns and a seamless structure with substantially consistent levels of stickiness and hardness.

Referring now to FIG. 28 , there is shown a partial schematic cross-sectional view of plate 112 taken along line 28 - 28 in FIG. 24 . Contrast regions 150 and 152 are visible on top surface 144 . As described above, due to the movement of the nozzle 136 relative to the web 94 during the application of the second polyurethane 102 onto the top surface 96 of the first polyurethane 92, different amounts of the second polyurethane 102 are applied. Apply to different areas or areas. The second polyurethane 102 is deposited in the first polyurethane 92 as a polyurethane mixture.

After the water bath 108 , the condensation zone 112 defines a total thickness t polyurethane T between its top surface 144 and its bottom surface 114 . In various regions, the second polyurethane 102 extends from the top surface 144 into the condensation zone 112 having a thickness t polyurethane2 . Depending on a number of factors including the speed at which the web 94 passes under the nozzle 136, the flow rate of the second polyurethane 102 from the nozzle 136, and the speed at which the nozzle 136 is moving in the X and Y directions, the ratio of tPolyurethane2 to tPolyurethaneT can be Change. In some embodiments, the maximum and preferably average ratio of t polyurethane 2 to t polyurethane T in some regions is at least 1 to 15, 1 to 10, 1 to 5, 1 to 4, 1 to 3, and/or 1 to 1 2. In some regions, the ratio is 1 to 1 where the second polyurethane 102 extends from the top surface 144 to the bottom surface 114 . In some embodiments, the ratio varies in different regions of the plate 80 .

As noted above, condensation zone 112 is generally porous. This porous region has a total thickness t porous region T between the top surface 144 and the bottom surface 114 of the condensation region 112 . Among the various zones, the second polyurethane 102 extends from the top surface 144 into the condensation zone 112 having the largest thickness t porous zone 2 . The ratio of t porous zone 2 to t porous zone T can vary. In some embodiments, the average ratio of t porous region 2 to t porous region T in some regions is at least 1 to 50, 1 to 40, 1 to 30, 1 to 20, 1 to 15, 1 to 10, 1 to 5, 1 vs 4, 1 vs 3, and/or 1 vs 2. In some regions, the ratio is 1 to 1 where the second polyurethane 102 extends from the top surface 144 through the porous condensation zone 112 . In some embodiments, the ratio varies in different regions of the plate 80 .

The pattern 142 shown in the figure is an example of a pattern achievable by applicant's method of manufacturing polyurethane sheets. Other patterns are also possible. For example, in some embodiments, when applying the second polyurethane 102 to the web 94 to create a solid band of second polyurethane 102 across the upper surface 96 of the first polyurethane 92, the nozzle 136 keep it steady. Depending on the manner in which the panel 80 is formed on the layered sheet L2, the straps may run horizontally, vertically, or at an angle across the layered sheet L2.

In some embodiments, the top surface 96 of the first polyurethane region 92 is formed over substantially all of the top surface 144 of the condensation region 112 . In such an embodiment, a relatively small amount of second polyurethane 102 may be applied prior to the setting process. In other embodiments, the top surface 106 of the second polyurethane 102 forms substantially all of the top surface 144 of the condensation zone 112 . In such an embodiment, a relatively large amount of second polyurethane 102 may be applied prior to the setting process. Embodiments of the invention may include different regions similar to the pattern. In some embodiments, the pattern can be repeated and positioned such that: layered sheet L2 formed of sheets includes at least three regions with contrasting features, such as colour. In some embodiments, layered sheet L2 may be formed with at least 5 regions of contrasting features. In some embodiments, there may be at least 7 regions of contrasting features. In some embodiments, there may be at least 10 or more regions of contrasting features. These regions of contrasting features may be arranged throughout the top surface 144 of the condensation zone 112 of the layered sheet L2, or across the width of the layered sheet L2, along the length of the layered sheet L2, or a combination of both.

Referring now to Figure 29, there is shown a partial schematic cross-sectional view of the plate 158 shown in Figures 27A and 27B. Condensation zone 160 is porous and includes a top surface 168 and a bottom surface 170 that are generally smooth. Top surface 168 may include one or more irregularities 172 that may extend downwardly into condensation zone 160 . Paint 162 is applied on top surface 168 of condensation zone 160 . Due to the irregularities 172 in the top surface 168 of the condensation zone 160 , the coating 162 may extend into the condensation zone 160 having a thickness t porous zone 2 . Although unclear, the ratio of t porous region 2 to t porous region T shown in FIG. 27B does not appear to exceed 1 to 100. Thus, if the coating is a second polymer applied to the surface of the condensation zone, the ratio of t porous zone 2 to t porous zone T of the coating covering the plate is by no means the ratio of 1 to 50 mentioned above.

As shown in FIG. 30, the plate 80 may be formed in a layered plate L2. In some embodiments, layered sheet L2 is die cut from sheet 80 . As will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, the panel 80 may be formed into any of a variety of shapes including strips, panels, inserts, or panels with cutouts as may suit a particular application.

Layered sheet L2 includes a top surface 174, a top region A, a bottom region B, a first side region C1 , and a second side region C2 . A line drawn from top region A to bottom region B on at least a portion of top surface 174 preferably spans multiple regions of polyurethane having different characteristics. In some embodiments, the layered sheet L2 may include at least 2, at least 3, at least 5, at least 7 or at least 10 zones. In some embodiments, the layered sheet L2 may range between 2 and 500 regions of at least one distinct feature along the line. It should be understood that different characteristic regions may alternate two or more colors along the line. Optionally, the different characteristic regions may be alternating levels of other characteristics along the line, eg viscosity or hardness.

Similarly, a line drawn from first side region C1 to second side region C2 on at least a portion of top surface 174 also preferably spans multiple regions having different characteristics. In some embodiments, along a line drawn from the first side region C1 to the second side region C2 on at least a portion of the top surface 174, the layered sheet L2 may include at least 2, at least 3 layers having different characteristics. , at least 5, at least 7, or at least 10 regions. In some embodiments, the layered sheet L2 may range between 2 and 500 regions of at least one distinct feature along the line.

Similarly, a line drawn from the top surface 174 to the bottom surface 114 of condensation zone 112 into layered sheet L2 may span multiple regions. In some embodiments, along a line drawn from the top surface 174 of the condensation zone 112 to the bottom surface 114, the layered sheet L2 may include at least 2, at least 3, at least 5, at least 7, or at least 10 zones. In some embodiments, the layered sheet L2 may range between 2 and 500 regions of at least one distinct feature along the line.

L2。As will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, the features of layered sheet L2 may be combined with the features of layered sheet L1 described above as desired. For example, layered sheet L2 may be further improved by friction enhancing patterns as described above with respect to other layered sheets.

Referring now to FIG. 31 and generally to layered sheets according to the present disclosure, in some embodiments, the top region A and bottom B regions are sliced. Generally, when the layered sheet L is connected to the tube T, the side regions C 1 , C 2 need not be covered since the raised portion R of the tube T includes a generally radially extending surface 46 engaging the side regions C 1 , C 2 . cutting. It will be noted that in some not shown embodiments, the first side region C1 and the second side region C2 of the layered sheet L may be cut at various angles to accommodate the shape of the surface 46 as desired. different angles α.

Referring generally to the layered boards disclosed herein, the top surface 174 of the layered board L is in direct contact with the hand of the user using the grip G. However, additional coated areas on the layered sheet L may be included, as will be appreciated by those skilled in the art. It will be appreciated that the top surface of a grip implementing the above disclosure may be coated in whole or in part with a thin area of polyurethane and/or other material (not shown) by brush, nozzle, sprayer, or the like, to For example protecting such surfaces, increasing adhesion to said such surfaces and/or increasing the durability of said such surfaces. The additional coated areas are preferably transparent, or translucent, such that some or all of any visible pattern on the outer surface of the layered sheet L remains visible. The additional coated area may be slightly opaque as long as a portion of the layered sheet L is visible through the additional coated area. An additional coated zone may be incorporated into the previously formed grip G, or may be applied to the layered sheet L, prior to connection to the tube T. If used, the additional coated area would be in direct contact with the user's hand rather than the top surface of the layered sheet. However, the top surface of the layered sheet L is considered to be the top surface of the grip G even when additional coated areas are included. If an additional coated area is included on the top surface of the grip, this area may also be further enhanced by a friction enhancing pattern as described herein.

As shown in Figure 2, in addition to being connected to a tube T configured for use with an iron, any of the layered plates disclosed herein may also be connected to a tube T configured for use with a (golf) putter (not shown). the tube. Such putter tubes may include generally flat regions such as shown in Applicant's US Patent Nos. 6,843,732 and 6,857,971.

180。Referring now to Figures 32-42, a layered sheet L is shown being applied to a tube T to form a grip G. In Figure 32, the inner surface of layer 50 is shown receiving adhesive 180 using a nozzle, brush or the like. In Figure 33, the support surface 12 of the tube T is shown receiving adhesive 180 using a nozzle, brush or the like.

G。34-42 show a layered sheet L wrapped around a tube T and adhered to it. During this operation, the top region A of the layered sheet L will desirably be manually inserted into the slot 14 of the cover 10 while the bottom region B of the layered sheet L will desirably be manually inserted into the slot 30 of the ring 8 . As shown in Figures 40-42, the side regions C1 , C2 of the layered sheet L will be adhered to the raised portion R using one or more suitable adhesives. Suitable adhesives are AD-86 (toluene, 35%; methyl ethyl ketone, 50%; polyurethane, 15%) and AD-RFE (ethyl acetate, 78%; polyisocyanate, 22%) mixture. As the layered sheet L is wound around and adhered to the tube T, the tube T will be temporarily supported on the collapsible mandrel 182, typically in conventional manner. The completed grip G is shown in FIG. 36 .

176。As mentioned above, the thickness t R of the portion R is substantially constant throughout its entirety and is configured to be approximately equal to the thickness t L of the layered sheet L (see, eg, FIG. 40 ). In some embodiments, approximately the same thickness of the portion R and the layered sheet L facilitates a substantially smooth surface interface therebetween as the portion R and the layered sheet L cooperate to define the gripping surface GS of the grip G 176.

Referring now to Fig. 42, a modified example of the grip G is shown. In this variation, the section 178 between the layered sheet L and the raised portion R comprises a small amount of liquid polyurethane applied to the section using a nozzle or brush. Polyurethane can also be placed between the side regions C 1 , C 2 of the layered sheet L and the connecting surface 46 of the raised portion R. In some embodiments, after the polyurethane has hardened, the polyurethane may be polished by a suitable brush or the like to smoothly bond the surface of the grip, while in other embodiments the polyurethane is not polished.

As noted above, it is to be understood that the outer surface of the grip embodying the above disclosure may also be coated with a thin layer of polymer such as polyurethane (not shown) using a brush, nozzle, spray or the like, for example Protect the surface, add tack to the surface and/or increase the durability of the surface.

R2Referring now to Figures 43-47, another embodiment of tube T1 is shown. As mentioned above, the raised portion R may have various structures. In the embodiment shown in Figures 43-47, tube T1 includes two raised portions R1 and R2 defining exposed surfaces E1 and E2 , respectively.

In the illustrated embodiment, the raised portion R 1 is formed in a generally elliptical shape with a major axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tube T 1 . The raised portion R 1 desirably extends outwardly from the support surface 12 of the tube T 1 between the first end 2 and the second end 4 of the tube T 1 . In some embodiments, portion R 1 is positioned on tube T 1 such that, in the finished grip, exposed surface E 1 of raised portion R 1 is positioned to engage a thumb grasping the grip during swinging. In some embodiments, the raised portion R 1 extends at least the length of a human finger pad in the circumferential direction. In some embodiments, raised portion R 1 extends at least the length of an adult's finger pad in the longitudinal direction. For the purposes of this application, the length of an adult's finger pad is limited to 1 inch.

In the illustrated embodiment, raised portion R 2 extends approximately the length of tube T 1 and is located on the opposite side from raised portion R 1 . Near the first end 2 of the tube T1, the raised portion R 1 is similar to the raised portion R of the tube discussed previously. Slightly above the middle of the tube T1 , the raised portion R 1 widens such that: the exposed surface E 2 covers substantially all the upper rear portion of the tube T1 . As shown, in some embodiments, only a portion of raised portion R 1 extends to cover 10 . As will be appreciated, more or less raised portion R 1 may extend to cover 10 . As previously mentioned, where the raised portion R 1 is attached to the cover 10 of some embodiments, the raised portion R 1 may be integrally formed with the lip 16 and may extend through the slot 14 to eliminate contact of the raised portion R 1 with the cover. Slots 14 in some or all areas of 10. In this case, the slot 14 only extends around a part of the circumference of the tube T. As shown in FIG. In some embodiments, the connection surface 46 of the raised portion R 1 extends substantially perpendicularly from the support surface 12 of the tube T. As shown in FIG. Optionally, one or more portions of the attachment surface 46 may be angled, eg, to correspond to additional cuts on one or more sides of the layered sheet L (eg, as shown in FIGS. 77-81 ).

As shown in FIG. 46, layered sheet L3 has been configured to correspond to tube T1, and in particular, layered sheet L3 has been adapted to correspond to support surface 12 of tube T1 around raised portions R1 and R2 . L3 includes cutouts 184 and 186 . The shape of the cutout 184 is a generally elliptical shape defined by an edge 190 with the major axis of the ellipse being substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tube T1. Thus, the cutout 184 corresponds to the general shape of the raised portion R 1 . Raised portion R 1 desirably fits within cutout 184 and is desirably substantially engaged by edge 190 of cutout 184 when layered sheet L3 is wrapped around support surface 12 . Cutout 186 is defined by edge 192 and is substantially symmetrical and configured to correspond to raised portion R 2 . Similarly, raised portion R 2 desirably fits within and is desirably substantially engaged by edge 192 of cutout 186 when layered sheet L3 is wrapped around support surface 12 .

Referring now to Figure 47, the combined layered sheet L3 and tube T1 form the grip G1. The gripping surface GS comprises the outer surface 174 of the layered sheet L3, the exposed surface E1 and the exposed surface E2 . The surface interface 176 between the outer surface 174 of the layered sheet L3 and the exposed surfaces E 1 , E 2 is desirably substantially smooth. As in the other embodiments described above, the layered sheet L3 is adhered or bonded to the support surface 12 of the tube T1. In some embodiments, the layered sheet L3 is wrapped around the tube T1 such that: the layered sheet L3 abuts the connection surface 46 of the raised portion(s). In some embodiments, at least a portion of the inner layer 50 and at least a portion of the outer layer 52 abut the connection surface 46 of the raised portion(s). Ideally, the inner layer 50 of the layered sheet L3 is adhered to the support surface 12 of the tube T1. In addition, inner layer 50 is also desirably adhered or bonded to connecting surface 46 of raised portions R1 and R2 . Outer layer 52 is also desirably adhered or bonded to connection surface 46 of raised portions R1 and R2 . As noted above, in some embodiments, and particularly in embodiments where outer layer 52 comprises polyurethane, in addition to adhesive 180, section 178 between layered sheet L3 and tube T1 may comprise polyurethane. to facilitate bonding or adhering the layered sheet L3, and specifically the outer layer 52 of the layered sheet L3 to the raised portion. In some embodiments, the raised portion R may be within about 1/8 inch, 1/16 inch, or in direct contact with the layered sheet around approximately the entire circumference of the raised portion. Optionally, layered panels may be attached or bonded to the raised portion.

52。In some embodiments, tube T comprises rubber having an IRHD hardness rating (International Rubber Hardness Scale) between about 60 degrees and 80 degrees. In some embodiments, raised portion R also has an IRHD hardness rating between about 60 and 80 degrees. As noted above, in some embodiments, outer layer 52 includes polyurethane. In some embodiments, outer layer 52 has an IRHD hardness rating between about 40 and 60 degrees. In some embodiments, the hardness ratio of the outer layer 52 to the raised portion R is about 1 to 1. In some embodiments, the stiffness ratio is between about 1:2 and about 1:1. In some embodiments where the hardness ratio is about 1 to 1, one or more other features such as tackiness, durability, color, or a friction enhancing pattern on the outer surface can distinguish the raised portion R on the gripping surface from the outer layer 52.

G′。Figure 48 shows one embodiment of a grip G' attached to a shaft S' of a golf club GC'. Figure 49 shows the grip G' in more detail.

A particular embodiment of the grip G' includes a resilient mounting tube T' and a layered member or plate L' wrapped around the tube T'. Mounting tube T' includes a raised portion R' defining one or more exposed surfaces E'. Desirably, tube T' comprises a tubular body 48' having one or more raised portions R'1 , R'2 ... R'n having an associated exposed surface E' 1 , E'2 ... E'n . In the illustrated embodiment, the tube T' comprises two raised portions R'1 and R'2 having exposed surfaces E'1 and E'2 . The grip defines a grip surface GS'. The gripping surface GS' may comprise the outer surface of the layered sheet L' and the exposed surfaces E'1 and E'2 of the raised portions R'1 and R'2 of the tube T'. (See, eg, Figure 49).

其它实例包括TPE(热塑性人造弹性体)、TPR(热塑性橡胶)、TPU(热塑性聚安脂)和TPV(热塑性硫化橡胶)。 3。More particularly, referring to Figures 50-55, one embodiment of a resilient tube T' is shown. During manufacture of grip G', tube T' may be mounted on a mandrel (not shown), as is known to those skilled in the art. Tube T' comprises a first end 2' and a second end 4'. The tube T' also includes a hollow inner cavity 3' configured to correspond to the outer shape of the axis GS' of the golf club GC'. The opening 6' and ring 8' are formed at the first end 2', while the second end 4' of the tube T' is formed with a cap 10' which in some embodiments substantially closes the second end 4'. The tube T' has a support surface 12' extending substantially between the cap 10' and the ring 8'. In some embodiments, tube T' is made of a resilient material such as natural or synthetic rubber or plastic. For example, the rubber may include a mixture of synthetic and natural rubber such as EPDM (ethylene propylene diene rubber). Other examples include TPE (thermoplastic artificial elastomer), TPR (thermoplastic rubber), TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), and TPV (thermoplastic vulcanizate). In some embodiments, the ratio of synthetic rubber to natural rubber is about 2 to 3.

Tube T' may be formed in a mold (not shown), as known to those skilled in the art. In some embodiments, raised portions R'1 and R'2 are integrally formed on tubular body 48'. In this case, the tubular body 48' and the raised portions R'1 and R'2 may comprise the same material. If this is the case, forming the raised portions R'1 and R'2 requires only creating opposite raised portions R'1 and R'2 in the mold. In this case, the material is selected to enhance the desired properties of raised portions R'1 and R'2 while balancing the desired properties of tubular body 48'. In some instances, it may be desirable to control the stiffness, viscosity, torque resistance, durability, color, or other properties of raised portions R'1 and R'2 to enhance particular properties of the finished grip G'.

As shown in FIG. 54, the connection surface 46'a forms an angle α'1 with a line tangent to the section of the connection surface 46'a of the boss R'1 and the support surface 12' of the tube T'. In general, attachment surface 46' desirably extends and forms an angle α' between support surface 12' and exposed surface E' of raised portion R'. In some embodiments, angle α' is in the range of about 5 degrees and 175 degrees. In some embodiments, angle α' is in the range of about 5 degrees and 90 degrees. In some embodiments, the angle α' is in the range of about 90 degrees and 175 degrees. In some embodiments, such as the embodiment shown in Figure 54, the angle α' is about 90 degrees.

Typically, the raised portion R' extends a width w' around the circumference of the main body 48' of the tube T'. The width w' may be constant along the tube T', eg if the raised portion R' forms a rectangular shape. Alternatively, width w' may vary along tube T'. In some embodiments, the width w' may extend to a maximum distance around the circumference of the tube T' (expressed as a percentage of the circumference of the main body 48' of the tube T') in the range of about 25% to 75%. In some embodiments, width w' may extend to a maximum value in the range of about 5% to 25%. In some embodiments, width w' may extend to a maximum value in the range of about 75% to 100%. In some embodiments, width w' may vary along the longitudinal length of R'. For example, in the illustrated embodiment, raised portion R'1 defines an elliptical shape, and width w'1 begins close to 0 along tube T' from first end 2' to second end 4' and widens to about 50% and narrows back to close to 0. Width w' need not vary uniformly along tube T'. 50-52, in the illustrated embodiment, the raised portion R'1 is configured to form a thumb zone TZ' in the gripping surface GS'. The thumb zone TZ' is shown on the front side of the tube T' so that when the user uses some or all of the fingers overlapping and/or interlocking on the back side of the grip and the thumb located on or near the front side of the grip when using a traditional In a golf grip, the thumb area accommodates the user's thumb. As will be understood by those skilled in the art, the thumb zone TZ' may be placed in other areas of the grip surface GS' to accommodate different grips.

In some embodiments, the raised portion R'1 extends at least the length of a human finger pad in the circumferential direction. In some embodiments, the raised portion R'1 extends in the longitudinal direction at least the length of the human finger pad. In some embodiments, raised portion Rc 1 extends at least the length of two adult finger pads in the longitudinal direction. As noted above, for the purposes of this application, the length of an adult's finger pad is limited to 1 inch.

In some embodiments, the upper portion of the raised portion R'2 adjacent to the cap 10' extends 100% of the width w'2 of the circumference of the tube T'. In some such embodiments, raised portion R'2 is integrally formed with cover 10' such that the transition between cover 10' and raised portion R'2 is substantially smooth. For example, as shown in FIGS. 50-52, the raised portion R'2 may be on the rear side of the tube T' from the second end 4' towards The first end 2' extends further down the length of the tube T'. As described in more detail below, this extension may provide the finger zone FZ' in the gripping surface GS' with different features than those provided by the layered sheet L' in other regions of the gripping surface GS'. In some embodiments, the finger zone FZ' of the raised portion R' 2 extends along the tube T' from the second end 4' towards the first end 2' at least the width of 4 adult finger pads. For the purposes of this application, the width of an adult's finger pad is limited to 1.5 inches.

In some embodiments, the upper portion of the raised portion R' 2 on the front side of the tube T' is configured to form a palm zone PZ' in the gripping surface GS'. In some embodiments, the palm zone PZ' of the raised portion R' 2 extends along the tube T' from the second end 4' towards the first end 2' by at least the width of an adult finger pad. In some embodiments, the palm zone PZ' extends along the tube T' from the second end 4' towards the first end 2' at least the width of 2 or more adult finger pads.

Friction on the raised portion R' may be increased by ridges or valleys formed in various patterns 47' on the surface E' of the raised portion R'. For example, as shown in Figure 52, different patterns 47'a and 47'b may be used. The pattern can be different on different raised portions, or the same or similar patterns can be used. In some embodiments, the pattern may be formed when the raised portion R' is molded. In other embodiments, the pattern is applied by altering the surface E' of the portion R' after the molding process, such as by grinding the surface E'.

如图54所示,凸起部R′通常被构造有厚度t′RIn some embodiments, one or more of the raised portions R' may be formed separately from the tubular body 48' and attached to the tubular body 48' by bonding, adhesive, or other mechanisms known to those skilled in the art to Tube T' is formed. Forming portion R' separately facilitates the use of a different material than that used to form tubular body 48' for the particular protrusion R'. In embodiments where multiple protrusions are desired, forming one or more portions separately allows for the incorporation of a variety of different materials into the grip. It is also possible for some parts to be formed integrally with the tubular body 48', while other parts are connected to said tubular body after the tube T' has been formed. As shown in FIG. 54, raised portion R' is generally configured with a thickness t'R .

Referring to FIG. 55, the ring 8' of the tube T' may be formed with an upwardly extending slot 30' formed from a portion 32' of the support surface 12' of the tube T' and a portion 32' extending upwardly from the ring 8'. The lip 34' defines, and preferably substantially circumferentially surrounds, the tube T'. The lip 34' defines an inner surface 36' facing the tube T', an upper surface 38' facing upwardly from the ring 8' and an outer surface 40' facing away from the support surface 12' of the tube T'. An upwardly extending lip 34' extends over a portion 32' of the support surface 12' of the tube T'. The lowermost portion of the slot 30' is defined by an inner lower upwardly facing surface 42'. While the lip 34' may bend outwardly from the tube T', in many embodiments the lip is prevented from remaining in the fully bent position in which the lip is in a flat state, thereby fully exposing the tube T'. The supporting surface 12' of T'. In alternative embodiments, the outer surface 40' tapers toward the inner surface 36', or the inner surface 36' tapers toward the outer surface 40' such that: the upper surface 38' is relatively narrow, and in some embodiments, the The upper surface is an annular point extending generally around the circumference of the tube T'. The slot 30' accommodates, for example, the bottom region of the layered sheet L'. To facilitate installation of layered panels L', in some embodiments tube T' will be formed with a central notch (not shown) provided on the outer surface of cover 10', ring 8', and/or both. .

(EVA)。Referring now to Figures 56-62, layered sheet L' for use with tube T' is illustrated. Various aspects and properties of the layered sheet L' can be combined from the following disclosure. Typically, the layered sheet L' has a thickness t'L (FIG. 58) and includes an outer surface 174' and an inner layer 50' having an outer surface bonded to the inner surface of the outer layer 52'. In some embodiments, outer layer 52' includes a polymer. In some embodiments, the polymer includes polyurethane. Additional materials, such as a waterproof coating, may be added to the outer surface 174'. Similarly, other materials such as fibrous mesh may be incorporated into the outer layer 52'. The inner layer 50' may be manufactured from a fibrous material comprising, for example, wool, polyester, nylon or a blend thereof. In a particular embodiment, a nylon polyester fiber material such as felt is used. During the manufacturing process, some of the outer layer 52' may penetrate into the inner layer 50'. For example, when polyurethane is used in the outer layer and a fibrous material is used in the inner layer, some polyurethane may penetrate the fibrous layer. In another embodiment, the inner layer 50' may comprise a polymer such as ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA).

The outer layer 52' can provide the golfer with a shock absorbing grip on the golf club and can improve the golfer's grip by providing increased adhesion between the golfer and the grip. The inner layer 50' may provide strength to the outer layer 52' and serve as a means of connecting the bonded layered sheet L' to the tube T'.

50′。The outer surface of the inner layer 50' in some embodiments is bonded to the inner surface of the outer layer 52'. When polyurethane is used in the outer layer 52', such polyurethane preferably coagulates to define voids such as shown in Figure 26A. The polyurethane can be coagulated and bonded directly to the inner layer 50', or it can be coagulated first on an intermediate layer (not shown) and subsequently bonded to the inner layer 50'.

The layered sheet L' may include a central notch (not shown) located at the top region A' and/or the bottom region B' of the layered sheet, said central notch representing the gap between the first side region C 1 ' and the second side region C 1 '. Midpoint between side regions C 2 '. The central notch can facilitate the application of the layered sheet L' to the tube T' to form the grip G'. The layered plate L' is configured to correspond to the tube T' and in particular has been adapted to correspond to the raised portions R' 1 and R' 2 . Layered sheet L' includes a cutout 184'. The shape of the cutout 184' is generally elliptical defined by the edge 190' with the major axis of the ellipse being substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tube T'. Thus, the cutout 184' corresponds to the general shape of the raised portion R'1 . The top region A' is defined by an edge 192' shaped to correspond to the lower edge of the raised portion R'2 .

将注意到:在一些未示出的实施例中,分层板L′的顶部区域A′可以以多种角度被切削,以根据需要适应表面46b′的不同角度α′2Figure 60 shows another step in the manufacture of an embodiment of the grip G'. Layered sheet L' is shown, but those skilled in the art will understand that similar steps can be taken for layered sheet L2'. In some embodiments, the bottom region B' of the layered sheet L' is cut. Typically, when the layered sheet L' is attached to the tube T', no cutting of the top region A' is required since the raised portion R'2 of the tube T' includes a generally radially extending surface 46b' that engages the top region A' . It will be noted that in some non-illustrated embodiments, the top region A' of the layered sheet L' may be cut at various angles to accommodate the different angles α'2 of the surface 46b' as desired.

Figures 61 and 62 show another cutting step for making an embodiment of the grip G'. Side regions C'1 and C'2 are shown cut such that the side regions are generally parallel to each other. Cutting side regions C'1 and C'2 in this manner may facilitate joining layered sheet L' to tube T' in certain embodiments as described in more detail below. As shown, other possible cutting configurations are possible besides leaving the side regions uncut, eg, in some of the embodiments described above.

T′。Referring now to Figures 63-76, a layered sheet L' is shown being applied to a tube T' to form a grip G'. In Fig. 63, the inner surface of layer 50' is shown receiving adhesive 180' using a nozzle, brush or the like. In Fig. 64, the support surface 12' of the tube T' is shown receiving an adhesive 180' using a nozzle, brush or the like. In some embodiments, adhesive 180' is applied to layered sheet L' or to tube T'.

192′。Figures 65-76 show a layered sheet L' wrapped around and adhered to a tube T'. The combined layered sheet L' and tube T' form the grip G' (Fig. 67). As the manufacturing process progresses, the tube T' will typically be temporarily supported in a suitable manner on a collapsible mandrel (not shown). During the winding operation, the bottom region B' of the layered sheet L' will desirably be manually inserted into the slot 30' of the ring 8'. Raised portion R'1 desirably fits within cutout 184' and is desirably substantially engaged by edge 190' of cutout 184'. Top region A' partially defined by edge 192' is configured to correspond to raised portion R'2 . The raised portion R' 2 desirably engages the edge 192' in the upper portion of the grip G' when the layered sheet L' is wrapped around the support surface 12'.

In some embodiments, side regions C'1 and C'2 cooperate to form seam 200' extending generally along the longitudinal axis of tube T'. As shown in FIGS. 65-73, in some embodiments, side regions C'1 and C'2 are cut in a generally parallel fashion such that the side regions overlap along seam 200'. In such an embodiment, the inner layer 50' of side region C'1 preferably corresponds to the inner layer 50' of side region C'2 , while the outer layer 52' of side region C'1 preferably corresponds to The outer layer 52' of the side region C'2 to form a strong and relatively smooth seam. Other possible seams 200' may be formed. For example, the uncut side regions C'1 and C'2 may be adhered or bonded together. Optionally, side regions C'1 and C'2 may be stitched together to form seam 200'. In some embodiments, side regions C'1 and C'2 are cut from the center of layered sheet L' towards the outer regions of layered sheet L' in a manner that prevents parallelism, and are subsequently joined to form seam 200 '. This cutting may begin at the inner layer 50' and extend through the outer layer 52', leaving a thin layer of the outer layer 52' at the exterior of the side regions C'1 and C'2 . In some embodiments, grooves (not shown) may be formed along the seam 200' to further strengthen the seam 200'. In some embodiments, seam 200' may include, in addition to adhesive 180', a deposit of polyurethane 202' to aid in bonding or bonding laminated panels L', and in particular Or glue the outer layer 52' of the layered sheet L'. Such polyurethane 202' may be deposited using nozzles or other means known to those skilled in the art (see, for example, Figure 73). In some embodiments, after the polyurethane has hardened, the polyurethane may be buffed by a suitable brush or the like to smoothly bond the surface of the grip, while in other embodiments the polyurethane is not buffed.

Gripping surface GS' includes outer surface 174' of layered sheet L', exposed surface E'1 , and exposed surface E'2 . Generally, in an embodiment, the layered sheet L' is wrapped around the tube T' such that: the layered sheet L' abuts the connection surface 46' of the raised portion R' at section 178', wherein: the inner layer 50' At least a portion of and/or at least a portion of the outer layer 52' abuts the connection surface 46' of the raised portion R'. Ideally, the inner layer 50' of the layered sheet L' is further adhered to support the support surface 12' of the tube T'.

As shown, for example in FIGS. 74-76, the inner layer 50 is desirably adhered or bonded to the support surface 12', and to the connecting surfaces 46'a and 46'a of the raised portions R'1 and R'2 . 46'b. Outer layer 52' is also desirably adhered or bonded to connection surfaces 46'a and 46'b of raised portions R'1 and R'2 . Using one or more suitable adhesives 180', the layered sheet L' will be adhered to the raised portion R'. Suitable adhesives are AD-86 (toluene, 35%; methyl ethyl ketone, 50%; polyurethane, 15%) and AD-RFE (ethyl acetate, 78%; polyisocyanate, 22%) mixture. In some embodiments, and particularly in those embodiments where outer layer 52' comprises polyurethane, in addition to adhesive 180', section 178' between layered sheet L' and tube T' may comprise Deposition of polyurethane 202' to aid in bonding or adhering the layered sheet L, and in particular the outer layer 52' of the layered sheet L' to the raised portion R'. Such polyurethane 202' may be deposited using nozzles or other means known to those skilled in the art (see, for example, Figure 76). In some embodiments, after the polyurethane has hardened, the polyurethane may be buffed by a suitable brush or the like to smoothly bond the surface of the grip, while in other embodiments the polyurethane is not buffed. The proximity of the layered sheet L' to the raised portion R' may not be uniform. For example, in some embodiments, portions of raised portion R' may be in direct contact with layered sheet L' within about 1/8 inch, 1/16 inch, or around the entire circumference of raised portion R'. touch.

176′。In certain embodiments, the raised portion R' has a thickness t'R that is substantially constant throughout and is configured to be approximately equal to the thickness t'L of the layered sheet L' (see, eg, FIG. 74 ). In some embodiments, when the raised portion R' and the layered sheet L' together define the gripping surface GS' of the grip G', the approximately equal thickness of the portion R' and the layered sheet L' facilitates said portion A substantially smooth surface interface 176' with the layered sheet.

As noted above, it should be understood that the outer surface of the grip embodying the above disclosure may also be coated with a thin layer of polymer such as polyurethane (not shown) using a brush, nozzle, spray or the like, for example to protect the The surface, increasing the adhesion to the surface and/or increasing the durability of the surface.

52′。In some embodiments, tube T' comprises rubber having an IRHD thickness rating (International Rubber Hardness Scale) between about 60 degrees and 80 degrees. In some embodiments, raised portion R' also has an IRHD hardness rating between about 60 and 80 degrees. As noted above, in some embodiments, the outer layer 52' includes polyurethane. In some embodiments, the outer layer 52' has an IRHD hardness rating between about 40 and 60 degrees. In some embodiments, the outer layer 52' has a durometer ratio of about 1 to 1 to the raised portion R'. In some embodiments, the hardness ratio is between about 1:2 and about 1:1. In some embodiments where the hardness ratio is about 1 to 1, one or more other features on the outer surface such as tackiness, durability, color, or a friction enhancing pattern can differentiate between the raised portion R' on the gripping surface and the Outer layer 52'.

In one application, layered sheet L' is adapted to provide a tacky, shock absorbing surface, while raised portions R' are configured to provide a more durable surface. The user grasps the grip G' with the left hand closest to the cover 10'. At least a portion of finger zone FZ' of raised portion R'2 engages at least a portion of the user's finger pad closest to the palm of the user's left hand. The upper portion of R'2 may extend a width w'2 sufficient to provide a palm zone PZ' on the front side of grip G' adapted to engage the flesh of the palm of the user's left hand. In some embodiments, said width w'2 extends 100% of the circumference of tube T'. The user's left and right thumbs may then be located on the front side of the grip G' where the raised portion R' 1 is configured to engage the thumbs.

L′。Figures 77-81 show a modified tube T' and layered plate L'. As mentioned above, in general, the connection surface 46' desirably extends between the support surface 12' and the exposed surface E' of the raised portion R', and connects with the connecting surface of the raised portion R' and the support surface 12 of the tube T'. 'The straight line tangent to the section forms an angle α'. The layered sheet L' is generally configured to engage the connection surface 46'. For example, as shown in FIG. 78, the attachment surface 46' extends between the support surface 12' and the exposed surface E'1 of the raised portion R'1 and forms an angle α'1 . In some embodiments, connecting surface 46' traverses support surface 12' such that: angle α' is about 90 degrees, and edges 190' and 192' of layered sheet L' are not cut such that: said edge 190 ' and 192' form a supplementary angle. In some embodiments, T' is advantageously configured such that: angle α' is greater than 90 degrees. In some embodiments, the angle α' is in the range of about 90 degrees and 175 degrees. In some embodiments, the angle α' is in the range of about 95 degrees and 150 degrees. In some embodiments, for example, the embodiment shown in FIGS. 77-81 , the angle α' is about 120 degrees. Figure 79 shows a layered sheet L' after cutting along its edges at an angle a' complementary to the tube T' shown in Figures 77 and 78 . Figures 80 to 81 show a layered sheet L' being wrapped around and bonded to a tube T' as described above.

Alternatively, it is advantageous to construct T' such that: angle α' is less than 90 degrees (not shown). In some embodiments, angle α' is in the range of about 5 degrees and 90 degrees. In some embodiments, the angle α' is in the range of about 25 degrees and 85 degrees. Especially in the case where the thickness t'R of the raised portion R' is greater than the thickness t'L of the layered sheet L', the connecting surface 46' forming the raised portion R' allows delamination with an angle α' smaller than 90 degrees. The edge of the plate L' is concealed below at least a portion of the connecting surface 46'. In some embodiments, joining surface 46' describes an angle α' other than 90' degrees, and some or all edges of layered sheet L' are not cut to complement angle α' described by joining surface 46'. In some such embodiments, especially those in which angle α' is less than 90' degrees, the gap between layered sheet L' and raised portion R' may be empty or filled with adhesive or other Binding agent.

In some embodiments, the attachment surface 46' illustrates a variable angle α'. The edges of the layered sheet L' may be cut to complement some or all of the angles.

As shown in Figure 49, in addition to being connected to a tube T' configured for use with an iron, any of the layered plates disclosed herein may also be connected to a tube (not shown) configured for use with a (golf) putter. ). Such putter tubes may include substantially flat regions such as shown in Applicant's US Patent Nos. 6,843,732 and 6,857,971. Additionally, in such a putter grip, alternative arrangements of raised portions R' may be used to accommodate various types of putting styles. For example, an additional finger zone FZ' could be created on the front side of the grip, and a thumb zone TZ' on the back side of the grip to allow a player's "claw style" tapping on the grip.
