The middle layer of the upper may be made of a lightweight polymer foam material that provides cushioning and protects the foot from objects that may contact the upper. Similarly, the outer layer of the upper may be made of a moisture-wicking fabric that wicks perspiration from the area immediately surrounding the foot.
