Abstract
An absorbent article includes a liquid permeable cover, a separator material, and an absorbent structure placed between the cover and the separator material. The absorbent structure includes a retention zone that has a gradient of varying density in at least two dimensions and a protection zone that has a part with a density less than the minimum density of the density gradient in the retention zone. The retention zone can be defined in the first region of the absorbent structure having a first base weight and the protection zone can be defined in a second region of the absorbent structure having a second base weight that is greater than the first base weight.
