Doterajší sposob opravy poškodeného· potrubia sa uskutočňoval pri odstavenej prevádzke potrubia a prerušenej dodávke dopravovaného média takým sposobom, že opravy sa robili utěsněním pomocou navrtávacích pásov alebo iných obručí. Tento sposob je nevyhovujúci hlavně v důsledku malej sťahovacej sily skrutiek, takže po krátkom čase dochádza k presakovaniu tesnenia alebo úniku přepravovaného média do okolia. V mieste takejto opravy musela byt po celom obvode potrubia porušená izolácia. Obnovenie izolácie v póvodnej kvalitě nebolo možné dosiahnuť a každé opravované miesto bolo zdrojom korózie. Opravy potrubia pri odstavení znamenajú prerušenie dodávky a přepravy média. Tento náročný sposob opravy zapříčiňuje najma u dialkovodov s velkým vnútorným objemom značné straty (vypúšťanie potrubia — oprava — napúšťanie).
