Abstract
The barcode character sensor consists of an optical coupler, an optical radiation source and an optical sensor, wherein the optical radiation source /3/ is connected to the first branch /2/ of the optical fiber coupler /1/, to the second branch /4/ of which an optical sensor /5/ is connected, wherein the third branch of the optical fiber coupler /1/ has a single detection and illumination termination with a modified surface for lossless transition of optical radiation between the light guide fiber and the surroundings, and an extension light guide fiber /6/ is connected to it. The advantage of the described sensor is that the optical radiation source is directly connected to the optical fiber coupler, the third branch of which evenly illuminates the immediately scanned area, thereby achieving high resolution with low noise.
Description
Vynález se týká snímače znaků čárového kódu, kterého se používá v terminálech počítačů.The present invention relates to a bar code character reader used in computer terminals.
The introduction of an automated control and registration system requires that the necessary data can be transmitted to the control computer efficiently, quickly, without errors, but also by β with low demands on operation. One of the terminals enabling contact with the computer is a barcode character reader, which is suitable for various records of attendance, registration of persons, materials entering the defined areas, monitoring of material movement in the production process, etc.
The prior art bar code scanning devices are based on the use of optical lens systems, for example the use of micro-lenses and lighting systems with semi-transparent mirrors or prisms, or on the scanning of characters using light guides with external light illumination.
The first method requires perfectly refined optics and precise alignment and is sensitive to mechanical and thermal influences. The second method is simple, but the problem is the illumination of characters and the associated worse resolution.
Also known are devices where the illumination of the code is done by means of light guides and the reflection of the reflected light is mediated by other light guides. In order to achieve the best possible resolution there is an effort to place light and detection light pipes, respectively. their endings, oo closest to each other.
Například v pat. spise USA č. 3 814 933 je tohoto záměru dosaženo koncentrací zakončení osvětlovacích a detekčních světlovodů do malé plochy, úpravou jejich konců do čtvercového průřezu a uspořádáním těchto zakončení do řad, kde se střídají osvětlovací a detekční zakončení.For example, in U.S. Pat. U.S. Pat. No. 3,814,933 achieves this by concentrating the ends of the light and detection light guides in a small area, adjusting their ends to a square cross-section, and arranging the ends in rows where the light and detection ends alternate.
Even in this embodiment, however, the resolution is limited by the dimensions and distance of the light guides, and even structurally, the termination with the concentration and square arrangement of the light guide fibers is complex.
The disadvantages of said devices are largely eliminated by the bar code reader according to the invention, consisting of an optical coupler, an optical radiation source and an optical sensor, in that the optical radiation source is connected to a first branch of an optical fiber coupler to the second an optical sensor is connected to the strand, the third strand of the fiber optic coupler having a single detective illumination tip and a treated surface for lossless transmission of optical radiation between the fiber optic and the surrounding, and an optical fiber optic is attached thereto.
A luminescent diode or laser diode is suitable as a light source and a semiconductor photodiode as a sensor. The fiber optic fiber extension may be attached by a non-detachable or detachable optical connector.
This achieves uniform illumination of the imaging spot and hence high resolution at a very low parasitic background signal, i.e. noise. This is made possible by guiding the optical radiation to the sensing point through the same fiber, which simultaneously serves to guide the reflected light towards the detector.
Zároveň se proti provedení s vedením osvětlovacího a detekčního vlákna, resp. vláken, aiS k detekovanému místu dosáhne zjednodušení mechanické konstrukce, neboť třetí větev optického vláknového vazebního členu je představována pouze jedním světlovodným vláknem. At the same time, the design with the guidance of the illumination and detection filaments, respectively. For example, the third strand of the optical fiber coupler is represented by only one light guide fiber.
The barcode reader of the present invention is described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing. The sensor consists of an optical fiber coupler 1 arranged as a directional coupler. Its first strand 8 is connected to an optical radiation source J and to its second strand 4 'an optical sensor 2 °
Optické záření zdroje 2 vstupuje do optického vláknového vazebního členu 2 a ozařuje *3 znaky £ čárového kódu. Část difuzně odraženého záření vstupuje zpět do optického vláknového vazebního členu £, rozděluje se do obou větví 2 aj v poměru daném uspořádáním optického vláknového vazebního členu l a na výstupu druhé větve £ je detekováno optickým sensorem 5.The optical radiation of the source 2 enters the optical fiber coupler 2 and irradiates the bar code characters. A portion of the diffuse reflected radiation returns to the optical fiber coupler 6, splits into both strands 2, even in proportion to the configuration of the optical fiber coupler 1a at the outlet of the second strand 6, is detected by the optical sensor 5.
Přeslech záření, postupující ze zdroje' £ první větví £ do druhé větve £ je zanedbatelně malý, což přispívá k nízké úrovni parazitního Sumu pozadí a k lepšímu rozlišení znaků' 2 čárového kódu.The crosstalk of the radiation advancing from the source první of the first branch do to the second branch je is negligibly small, contributing to a low level of parasitic background sum and to a better resolution of the bar code characters.
Rozdělení výkonu optického záření, postupujícího po odrazu zpět k sensoru 5 a ke zdroji £ optického záření může být v libovolném poměru, daném uspořádáním optického vláknového vazebního členu' £, který má formu směrové odbočnice a je uspořádán jako vláknová rozbočka typu Y.The distribution of the optical radiation output after reflection back to the sensor 5 and to the optical radiation source 6 may be in any ratio given by the arrangement of the optical fiber coupler 6, which is in the form of a directional coupler and is arranged as a Y-type fiber splitter.
The optical fiber coupler 8 is also provided on its third strand with an optical fiber optic fiber 6 which serves to irradiate the bar code features současně and at the same time to sense reflected radiation from the bar code features.
Funkce snímače podle vynálezu je následující. Světelné záření je generováno zdrojem 3, je vedeno první větví £ optického vláknového vazebního členu £ k tomuto členu 1, dále třetí větví řečeného členu' 3 ke znakům £ čárového kódu.The function of the sensor according to the invention is as follows. The light radiation is generated by the source 3, it is guided through the first branch 6 of the optical fiber coupler 6 to this member 1, further through the third branch of said member 3 to the bar code features 6.
After reflection, the light radiation passes back through the third strand, part of the radiation passes through the second strand 6 to the optical sensor 8. Any light source can perform the function of the optical radiation source, but a semiconductor luminescent diode or laser diode is most preferred.
The use of many different means for detecting light radiation is also known, the semiconductor photodiode being the most suitable as the optical sensor 6. Since the waveform generated by the semiconductor photodiode itself is not sufficiently suited for further digital circuit processing, it is preferable to connect a threshold detector at the output of the optical sensor 6 which increases the sharpness of said variations in the electrical signal to a well usable level.
The device according to the invention is particularly useful for scanning bar code features, but it can also be used for scanning other codes of a similar nature, whereby a preferred arrangement of the scanning system according to the invention is used with a single irradiation and scanning end respectively. fiber.
