Description
The present invention provides a method for oxidizing ferrous iron in ferrous sulphate to ferrous iron in the presence of a uranium ore mash using air aeration.
In the acid leaching of uranium ruins, various oxidizing agents are used which increase the metal yield by converting the tetravalent uranium present in the ore into a festive, more easily leachable form. A common oxidant is, besides other, also trivalent iron, which is dosed into the mash in the form of its compounds during leaching or is artificially formed by oxidation from the divalent iron present in ores in the hydromethoxetic treatment process.
In practice, various oxidants, including oxygen and air, are used to oxidize divalent iron to trivalent iron. The kinetics of direct oxidation of ferrous sulfate with oxygen depend on the acidity of the solution, with increasing acidity the reaction time increases. Iron (II) sulphate is acidic in itself, which is particularly true of its technical salts, in which residual free sulfuric acid is also present. Oxidation of ferrous sulfate occurs relatively easily in a nitrate medium.
Při kyselám síranovém loužení uranových rud s uzavřeným okruhem technologických vod věak není vhodná do systému zanášet nitrátová ionty, což omezuje výbšr oxidačních metod, nebot oxidaci je třeba provádět pouze v síranovém prostředí.However, in the acid sulphate leaching of uranium ores with a closed process water circuit, it is not advisable to introduce nitrate ions into the system, which limits the choice of oxidation methods, since oxidation should only be carried out in a sulphate environment.
A method for oxidizing ferrous sulfate is also known which utilizes the oxidizing capacity of some microorganisms, such as Thio-baclllus ferrooxidans, which has a relatively low oxygenation rate.

Also known is a process for oxidizing divalent iron to trivalent in which ferrous sulphate is obtained by leaching divalent iron with sulfuric acid from a portion of the total amount of ore, after which the second portion of the ore is neutralized to pH 5.0 to 6.5 and the mixed mash thus obtained. It aerates with air, whereby ferric sulphate is formed, especially at elevated temperature.
The disadvantage of this method is that it can only be used for ores which contain enough neutralizing substances to allow the separated part to neutralize the part leached with sulfuric acid. In addition, not every ore contains the necessary amount of extractable iron.
These deficiencies are largely eliminated by the method of oxidizing ferrous iron in ferrous sulfate to ferrous iron in the presence of uranium ore, e.g. The method of claim 1 wherein the uranium ore mash is mixed with ferrous sulfate in an amount of 1 g to 25 g of divalent iron per kg of ore to be processed.
Thereafter, the resulting mixture is aerated with air at a temperature between 30 ° C and 100 ° C and at a pH of 4 to 8 for 1 to 5 hours. A preferred embodiment of the invention is that the uranium ore mash is either one ore type with a content of 1 to 20% by weight. % of well leachable components or 0.5 to 15% by weight of uranium ore is added to the mash. other uranium ores containing 1 to 20 wt. well leachable components such as carbonates.
It is further a preferred embodiment of the invention that the iron (II) sulfate is metered into the uranium ore mash in the form of an aqueous solution or in solid form. It is also a suitable embodiment of the invention to dispense ferrous sulphate into the uranium ore mash all at once or in portions to the mash.
For most ores, the addition of ferrous sulphate makes it possible to achieve a pH in the range of 4 to 6 depending on the type of ore, which is in a region which allows relatively easy oxidation of divalent iron to trivalent iron. It is advantageous to use ferrous sulphate from the production of titanium dioxide for this purpose, which is presently unusable waste, which in addition to divalent iron also contains part of the iron in trivalent form. Iron (III), produced by the oxidation of ferrous sulfate, oxidizes tetravalent uranium in the ore, thereby increasing the overall yield of uranium and reducing the consumption of leaching acid.
In carrying out the process of the invention, the required amount of ferrous sulphate is added to the mash at one time or sequentially in portions to produce the desired ferric iron concentration in the uranium ore slurry so as to maintain the pH of the mash within 4 to 8. the temperature is maintained above 40 ° C, the reaction proceeds well even with the mixture boiling.
In this way, ferrous iron is obtained from ferrous sulfate, capable of oxidizing tetravalent uranium in the ore to be treated under leaching conditions. Directly processed ores are used to adjust the hydrogen ion concentration in the mash to values of at least 10-4 moles per liter, if the ore contains components capable of neutralization, i.e. carbonates, or else a suitable mixture of ores is used, of which at least one contains neutralizing components.

The concentration of hydrogen ions decreased from the original 3.25 during this period. 10 ^ ^ mol per liter to a final 2.2. 10 ~ 4 moles per liter. The divalent iron added was converted from about 96% to the trivalent form within the indicated time.
Příklad 4Example 4
