Abstract

A new method for determining the activation energy of ignition of plastics is being developed. Its essence lies in the fact that the flammability of the plastic is first tested at at least three different temperatures above its ignition temperature, so that at each temperature at least three plastic samples of different weights are tested. From the determined times required for the ignition of the samples, the dependence of these times on the mass of the samples is compiled for each temperature used. This is extrapolated to the zero mass of the sample and the activation energy is calculated from the corresponding time required for ignition using the Arrhenius relationship.

Description

Vynález se týká způsobu stanovení aktivační energie vznícení plastů, popřípadě obsahujících retardéry hoření a modifikaČní přísady tvořící se základním materiálem i po desintegraci zkušebního vzorku homogenní směs.The invention relates to a method for determining the ignition ignition energy of plastics, optionally containing flame retardants and modifying additives forming with the base material even after the sample has been disintegrated, a homogeneous mixture.

The ignition temperature, as the lowest temperature at which a combustible substance at normal pressure will produce so many combustible fumes that, when mixed with air without an external flame source, does not ignite briefly but does not burn, is one of the important factors by which plastics resistance to high temperatures. There are several methods for assessing the ignition and ignition of different types of materials. Among the best known is the procedure according to ČSN 64 0149 Determination of flammability of materials. The essence of the test is to heat the sample in an electrically heated Setchkin apparatus and to determine the ignition temperature and ignition of the released decomposition gases. Another method is the procedure according to ČSN 64 0146 Hot resistance and flammability in the hot mandrel test, by which the flammability of solid self-supporting materials can be evaluated. Other methods are designed especially for paints and flammable liquids. These include procedures according to ČSN 65 6191 Flash point in closed crucible according to Abel-Pensky, ČSN 65 6212 Flash point and burning point in an open crucible according to Cleveland, ČSN 65 6244 Flash point according to Marcusson, ČSN 67 3015 Determination of flash point of paints in closed crucible according to Abel-Pensky and ČSN 65 6064 Petroleum products. Determination of flash point in a closed crucible according to Rensky and Martens. However, none of the methods described in the above-mentioned standards make it possible to determine the important fire-technical characteristics of the materials, namely the ignition activation energy.

This drawback is overcome by the present invention, which is directed to a method for determining the ignition ignition energy of plastics. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The first object of the present invention is to perform a flammability test of the plastic at least three different temperatures above its ignition temperature in a known manner by subjecting the test to at least three plastic samples of different weight at each selected temperature. For each temperature used, the dependence of these times on the weight of the samples shall be established.

Navážky vzorků se přitom zvolí v rozmezí hmotnosti, jehož horní hranicí jsou 0,3 g a dolní hranicí je taková hmotnost plastu, jejíž doba vznícení při zvolené teplotě je 10 s.This is then extrapolated to zero sample weight, and the corresponding ignition time is then calculated to calculate the amount of activation energy using the known Arrhenius relationship. The sample weights are selected in the weight range, the upper limit of which is 0.3 g and the lower limit is that of the plastic, the ignition time at the selected temperature being 10 s.

The importance of the present invention lies primarily in finding a new method for determining the magnitude of the activation ignition energy of plastics. This is an important fire-technical characteristic that makes it possible to quantitatively assess the dependence of the flammability of the material in question on temperature.

η ° 2,303 R ' + log A, kde (1) t je čas, potřebný ke vznícení vzorku,For the evaluation, the Setchkin apparatus described in CSN 64 0149 is used. As the ignition temperature depends on the weight of the sample in addition to the factors described in this standard, the ignition time must be evaluated at different weighings and graphically extrapolated to zero. The intersection of the extrapolated line or curve with the time axis indicates the time t whose reciprocal value characterizes the ignition rate. The sample weights are chosen in the range of usually 0.05-0.30 g to neglect the time required to heat the sample to the initial decomposition temperature. The ignition time decreases with increasing temperature in the instrument. The rate of ignition 1 / t θθ shall be determined at least three temperatures above the ignition temperature of the material under evaluation. The temperature of the apparatus is always increased by 50 to 100 ° C depending on the heat capacity of the device. In order to ensure reproducibility of the result, the individual ignition times of the sample must be at least 10 s at the lowest weights. From the graphical dependence of l / t Q versus temperature in the Arrhenia variables, the ignition ignition energy is calculated according to A_. η ° 2,303 R '+ log A, where (1) t is the time taken to ignite the sample,

E^ je aktivační energie vznícení,E ^ is the ignition activation energy,

R je univerzální plynová konstanta,R is the universal gas constant,

T je absolutní teplota,T is the absolute temperature,

A je faktor Arrheniovy rovnice.A is a factor of the Arrhenius equation.

Člen _EA je směrnicí 0 2,303 R přímky tg<<, aktivační energie se pak vypočítá z této směrnice:This equation is a line equation where the variables are 1 / T and loq l / t_. The term _E A is the slope 0 2,303 R of the line tg <<, then the activation energy is calculated from this slope:

EA = - tgoC. R . 2,303 (2)E A = -goC. R. 2,302 (2)

The achieved results are characterized by good reproducibility!, Which depends on compliance with all conditions prescribed by the standard ČSN 64 0149. The method is used in practice when comparing various plastics in terms of their resistance to ignition at high temperatures.

Časy, dosažené při jednotlivých teplotách, byly graficky extrapolovány na nulovou navážku, čímž byly stanoveny časy t pro teploty 500, 550 a 600 °C.From a sample of epoxy resin (epoxy equivalent per kg = 5.2) cured with diaminodiphenylmethane (hydrogen equivalent of 49.1 g / H) containing 2% by weight of flame retardant. A prism of 2.5 g was cut out of triphenylantimondichloride (Sb content 28.12 wt.%, Cl content 16.52 wt.%). The ignition temperature of 460 ° C was determined in accordance with ČSN 64 0149. The temperatures for evaluating the ignition ignition energy were selected above this temperature, namely 500, 550 and 600 ° C. Fragmented sample weights were reduced from 0.3 g to 0.05 g, until the flash fired at the sample and the flash time did not drop below 10 s. Times at each temperature were graphically extrapolated to zero. and the times t for 500, 550 and 600 ° C were determined.

The following table shows the data obtained after extrapolating the dependence of ignition time on the sample weighed to zero weight and the values needed to fit into the Arrhenius equation.

Uvedené údaje byly vyneseny do grafu v koordinátách log 1/t proti 1/T. Metodou nejmenších čtverců byly vypočteny a a b a dosazeny do Arrheniovy rovnice (1) sog 1/t = -3 966,3 1/T + 3,566, z čehož byla vypočtena aktivační energie vznícení podle vztahu (2)These data were plotted in log 1 / t vs. 1 / T coordinates. The dependence was expressed in the form of a line y = ax + b. The least squares method was used to calculate a and substitute for Arrhenius equation (1) sog 1 / t = -3 966,3 1 / T + 3,566, from which the ignition ignition energy was calculated according to (2)

Eft = 75 943 J.mol-1.E ft = 75,943 µm -1 .

A correlation coefficient r was expressed expressing how the relationship between log l / t Q and 1 / T corresponds to the line equation. Since r = - 0.999 7, it was verified that the above relationship is statistically very significant.
