Abstract

The solution concerns non-destructive testing of material quality. The essence of determining the content of residual austenite lies in using the values of the specific electrical resistivity, which are measured on components made of steel with an austenitic-martensitic structure, in particular heat-treated bearing steel, by one of the known methods, to determine the value of the content of residual austenite. According to the established dependence of the specific electrical resistivity on the content of residual austenite of steel with an austenitic-martensitic structure, the measured value of the specific electrical resistivity is either directly assigned the appropriate value of the content of residual austenite or this value of the content of residual austenite is assigned to a value proportional to the specific electrical resistivity on the basis of a calibration curve determined using several standard components of the same dimensions and shape with a known content of residual austenite. The solution is applicable in particular in the bearing industry for non-destructive control of the content of residual austenite of finished rolling bearing components or as an inter-operational control.

Description

Vynález se týká nedestruktivního zjišEování obsahu zbytkového austenitu součásti vyrobených z ocelí s austeniticko-martenzitickou strukturou, zejména tepelně zpracované ložiskové oceli. The invention relates to the non-destructive determination of the residual austenite content of components made of steels with an austenitic-martensitic structure, in particular heat-treated bearing steels.

Dosavadní způsob zjištování obsahu zbytkového austenitu součástí vyrobených z ocelí ,i ,-iiirit 1 I Irkn mri ι I eiiz I I Irlnui ιι I i tik I u i mi znjménn tnpntiiň zpinnovnné ložiskově minii využívá například rentgenové difrakce. The prior art method for determining the residual austenite content of parts made of steels, i.e., irradiated, or less well-known, has been utilized, for example, by X-ray diffraction. The method is called X-ray diffraction analysis, the equipment needed to operate the method is an X-ray diffractometer. This method of determining the residual austenite content is absolute, unethalone-free. In its application, it is necessary to make an X-ray frame of a given component, measure the integral intensities of the respective austenite and mertensity diffraction and determine the residual austenite content according to a known formula. The disadvantage of this method is that it is laborious and in many cases destructive. This is because the penetration of the X-rays into the metallic materials is low, about 0.01 to 0.02 mm, so the residual austenite content is not measured in the whole volume of the component but only in the thin surface layer. However, the surface layer usually differs from the volume itself, so that the component must be cut to reliably determine the residual austenite content, thereby destroying it. The equipment for the operation of this method is very expensive, the workplace has to be classified as a risky workplace with ionizing radiation, so it is also a deterioration of the environment. Furthermore, this method is entirely laboratory and cannot be used, for example, as a control method in automated production lines.

Other methods for determining the residual austenite content of parts made of steels with an austenitic-martensitic structure, in particular heat-treated bearing steels, utilize the dependence of magnetic properties such as magnetic induction, reranent induction, coercive magnetic field strength etc. on the residual austenite content. Said methods for determining the residual austenite content are non-destructive, but for their operation it is necessary to have components with known residual austenite content as standards. These standard components must be manufactured with exactly the same sequence of technological operations during heat treatment. The disadvantage of this method is low reliability. A high percentage of measurements do not match the calibration curves. Indeed, once the sequence of heat treatment operations has changed or some of the operations have been deleted or added, this method of determining the residual austenite content is no longer working reliably and it is necessary to provide a set of new standards for these modified heat treatment conditions.

Sometimes another method of determining the residual austenite content of the parts made of steels with an austenitic-martensitic structure working on the principle of Mssssbauer effect is used. This method is laboratory, 100% destructive and imposes considerable sample preparation requirements. It works on the principle of skepter evaluation, so it has similar advantages and disadvantages as for X-ray diffraction methods.

The aforementioned drawbacks are eliminated by a method of determining the residual austenite content of components made of steels with an austenitic-martensitic structure, in particular heat-treated bearing steels, based on electrical resistance measurement by measuring the electrical resistivity or a value proportional to electrical resistivity. the electrical resistivity on the residual austenite content of steel with an austenitic-martensitic structure, the measured resistive austenite content value is either directly assigned to the measured resistive resistivity value or this resistive austenite content value is assigned a value proportional to the resistive resistivity dimensions and shape with known residual austenite content.

Methods of measuring the specific electrical resistance, respectively. Conductivity is known. They are used in some fields, eg in semiconductor technology to check utility properties or products. The specific electrical resistance of steels with austenitic-martensitic structure as well as bearing steels was also measured. For example, in the Proceedings of the New Technique in Electromagnetic Flaw Detection published in the Technical Magazine of the ČVTS ZKL Brno Branch, 1965, pages 3 to 11 of Ingc himself CSc: Electromagnetic Structoscopy and its Problems in Practical Application published data on specific electrical resistance of bearing steel. However, similar data are rare and rare in the literature. Conductivity measurements are usually limited to simple shape samples, such as 10x10x100 mra rods, for which simple computational relationships apply.

It is further known that the specific electrical resistance of a conductive substance depends on its structure, or more precisely, on the parameters describing the structure of the substance. In the case of steels with an austenitic-mertensitic structure, one of the parameters characterizing the structure is the residual austenite content. It follows logically that the resistivity of steels with an austenitic-martensitic structure depends on the residual austenite content of the structure. In most cases, this dependence can with good accuracy be sufficient for approximation of the third degree polynomial, ie dependencies of the type y = a Q + and lX + a., X 2 + a ^ 3 where x is the residual austenite content a and Q , Sp a 2 , and 3 experimentally determined coefficients.

For the bearing steel ČSN 41 4109 the specific electric resistance coefficients on the residual austenite content after the heat treatment were determined by the least squares method for about 60 measurements as follows: a Q = 25.8; = 0.54; and 2 = 0; and 3 = 0 with a correlation coefficient of 0.85, which is statistically significant for the indicated number of measurements.

Jako použité vzorky pro ověření této závislosti bylo použito 32 ks tepelně zpracovaných tyčinek «1 4x100 mm a dále 29 ks vnitřních kroužků ložiska 3 0210 E.32 pieces of heat treated rods 32 1 4x100 mm and 29 pieces of bearing inner rings 3 0210 E were used as samples to verify this dependence.

Pro měření úbytku napětí byl použit milivoltmetr mlT 290, výrobek Metry n.p.In these measurements, the voltage drops generated on the bearing steel conductors were of the order of one tenth of mV, the differences between the individual samples were in the order of one hundredth of the mV. Na tyčince č. 1 byla změřena hodnota měrného elektrického odporu 28,9Í2 .m.10 a rentgenografickou metodou byla u téže tyčinky zjištěna hodnota obsahu zbytkového austenitu (3,8 + + 0,8) %. Na tyčince č. 2 byla zjištěna hodnota měrného elektrického odporu 30,8Ω .m.10 a hodnota obsahu zbytkového austenitu (9,5 + 1,9) %. Na tyčince č. 3 byla zjištěna hodnota měrného elektrického odporu 39,6Ω .m.10-8 a hodnota obsahu zbytkového austenitu (19,3 + 3,8)%.The value of the electrical resistivity of 28.9 [mu] m / m < 10 > was measured on rod 1 and the residual austenite content (3.8 + + 0.8)% was determined by the X-ray method. The value of the electrical resistivity of 39.6Ωm.10 -8 and the value of the residual austenite content (19.3 + 3.8)% was found on the rod No. 3.

It is apparent from the above measurements that the values of the specific electrical resistance and the residual austenite content are proportional to each other.

Let's have a rolling bearing ring for which the residual austenite content must be determined. The resistivity value of 35.7Ω .m.10 -8 was measured on this ring. According to the invention, the residual austenite content was determined on this ring using the coefficients of linear dependence and Q = 25.8 a = 0.54, - 18.3 t. The residual austenite content on the same ring was (19.0 + 3) , 8)%. In another ring, the resistivity value was measured to be 43.7 [mu] m.m- 8 and the value was determined according to the invention (tbn. The dependence of the specific electrical resistance on the residual austenite content of bearing steel ČSN 41 4109 after heat treatment is therefore linear with good correlation. This dependence can be used as a calibration curve to determine the residual austenite content of the invention. The procedure for determining the residual austenite content is as follows: The specific electrical resistance is measured on the parts made of heat-treated bearing steel ČSN 41 4109 and according to the given linear dependence determined coefficients and Q = 25.8 aa ^ = 0.54 residual austenite content.

To calculate the specific electrical resistance from the measured voltage drops, it is necessary to know precisely the length and cross-section of the conductor. When applied to roller bearings rings or other components of complex cross-sections, this can lead to complex calculations. Therefore, in some cases it is easier, especially if we have for example roller bearings of size and shape with known content of residual austenite (determined by another method eg X-ray), to determine the calibration dependence not directly by means of specific electrical resistance values but by values which are only proportional to the specific electrical resistance, for example the measured voltage drop values. The calibration curve is then constructed not for specific electrical resistance, but for voltage drops. This method can be used especially in those cases where the determination of the specific electrical resistance due to complex cross-sections makes it difficult.

The invention has a very practical application. It can be used, for example, to control the residual austenite content in finished rolling element rings or during production, eg to control heat treatment. It can also be used to determine the residual austenite content of parts made of other steels with an austenitic-martensitic structure.

According to the invention, higher effects are achieved than in all methods of determining the residual austenite content using magnetic measurements whose reliability is not high. In these methods, as already mentioned, the result is affected if any operation changes in the sequence of heat treatment operations. On the other hand, the dependence of the specific electrical resistance of the steel with the austenitic-martensitic structure, in particular of the heat-treated bearing steel, on the residual austenite content does not substantially change with the change of other structural parameters.

The method for determining the residual austenite content according to the invention is non-destructive, which is its advantage over the X-ray or Mttssbauer effect method.

Measurement of specific electrical resistance is very accurate. Few technical quantities can be detected with the same accuracy as electrical resistance. Conductivity testing has been used in semiconductor technology for many years. However, the conductivity measurement of steel components is not carried out for purposes other than study purposes, and electrical conductivity is not used as a control parameter. This is because the voltage drops generated on the steel parts by direct current passage are very low. Until these very small voltage drops could be measured with sufficient accuracy, conductivity could not be used as a control parameter.

Today, however, thanks to advanced electronics, this is not a problem.

Moreover, the method for determining the residual austenite content according to the invention is very rapid.

Operace umístění vzorku v držáku, zapnutí proudu a odečtu hodnot úbytků napětí trvají řádově sekundy. The operations of placing the sample in the holder, turning on the current, and reading the voltage drop readings take seconds. The method could also be automated and used in production plants for 100% product inspection. By automating and eliminating the human factor, the measurement of residual austenite content can be further accelerated, so that in terms of the effects achieved, the method of determining residual anstonil content according to the invention is completely unrivaled compared to other known and previously used methods.
