Abstract
Zapojení má obecné použití v měřicí a přístrojové technice, např. v číslicových voltmetrech a ampérmetrech střední třídy přesnosti. The circuit concerns a fast voltage-to-frequency converter. The essence of the solution is that the input voltage is converted by a voltage converter to current and this current is used to charge a capacitor. The voltage on the capacitor is monitored by a comparator, which activates a monostable flip-flop when the comparison level is reached. For the duration of the pulse at the output of the monostable flip-flop, an electronic switch is closed and the capacitor is discharged with a constant current from the reference current source. The whole process is constantly repeated, while the pulse frequency at the output of the monostable flip-flop is directly proportional to the input voltage. The circuit has general use in measuring and instrumentation, e.g. in digital voltmeters and ammeters of medium accuracy class. It can also be used with advantage in digital spectrum analyzers or correlators operating on the principle of intermediate conversion of the input signal to frequency.
Description
, i .The invention relates to a fast paper-to-frequency converter. , i.
Protože četnost nabíjení a nulování integrátoru závisí na velikosti vsít tipu í ho η n । m‘‘ ( ( , j·· k οι Η οΓ«· ( výří I dpi i í ho η I φίΛ I h z ki impn t Λ ( οι ti pří mo άικΛ t ný v jí tu pí i í mu napětí.Several voltage-to-frequency converter connections are known. The simplest frequency converters work on the principle of integrating the input voltage in the integrator, while the output voltage of the integrator is monitored by a comparator, which causes the integrator to reset after reaching the comparison level. Because the frequency of charging and resetting the integrator depends on the size of the network tip í ho η n। m ‘‘ ((, j ·· k οι Η οΓ «· (výří I dpi i í ho η I φίΛ I h z ki impn t Λ (οι ti
The main disadvantage of this arrangement is the final discharge time of the integrator integration capacitor by means of an electronic switch connected in parallel. Because immediate discharging would cause irreversible changes in the integration capacitor, discharging is performed via a resistor connected in series with the electronic switch. However, the resistance of the closed electronic switch is non-zero and, in addition, its resistance varies depending on the current flowing. Therefore, the discharge of the integration capacitor is not precisely defined only by the resistance of the resistor connected in series with the electronic switch, but also by the variable resistance of the closed switch. This shortcoming excludes the use of this type of converter only for light applications.
Another type of voltage-to-frequency converter uses the conversion of the input voltage to current, which then directly controls the frequency of the multivibrator.
Nevýhodou tohoto uspořádání je menší přesnost, protože linearita převodu napětí na kmitočet přímo závisí na tom, do jaké míry se podaří lineárně řídit kmitočet multivibrátoru vnuceným řídicím proudem. The disadvantage of this arrangement is less accuracy, because the linearity of the voltage-to-frequency conversion directly depends on the extent to which the frequency of the multivibrator can be linearly controlled by the forced control current.
Good results with low cost of the converter are currently achieved with feedback converters, in which the input voltage is integrated and the comparator compares the output voltage of the integrator with the comparison level. However, when the comparison voltage is reached, a reference voltage source is connected to the resistor connected to the summing point of the integrator by an electronic switch for a defined time, thus discharging the integration capacitor. The whole process is repeated periodically, while the output frequency of the converter is directly proportional to the input voltage.
A similar arrangement uses constant current sources to discharge the integration capacitor. Higher accuracy is then achieved in converters in which the discharge time of the integration capacitor is not given by the time constant of the monostable flip-flop, but is derived from a crystal-controlled oscillator.
A common disadvantage of these connections is the use of an integrator with an operational amplifier. The output resistance of the operational amplifier has a significant effect on the frequency stability of the integrator. By connecting a current amplifier, which is characterized by a small output resistance, to the direct branch of the feedback loop, the frequency stability is improved, but at higher frequencies the parasitic capacitances of the operational amplifier and the output resistance of the current amplifier are already beginning to apply. Therefore, it is necessary to correct the frequency of the entire integrator, which increases the circuit complexity of the entire circuit and places demands on quality circuit elements.
These disadvantages are largely eliminated by the connection of a fast voltage-to-frequency converter according to the invention, the essence of which is that the input terminal is connected to the input of a voltage-to-current converter, the output of which is connected to the first end of the capacitor. the input of the comparator, the other end of the capacitor being connected to a common conductor. The other end of the capacitor is connected to a source of comparative voltage and the output of the comparator is connected to the input of a monostable flip-flop circuit. The output of the monostable flip-flop circuit is connected to the output terminal and at the same time to the control input of the electronic switch. The second terminal of the electronic switch is connected to the reference current source.

The advantages of connecting a fast voltage-to-frequency converter according to the invention are, in particular, that the undesirable properties of an integrator with an operational amplifier do not apply, because a capacitor is used directly as an integrator. This advantageous feature is further enhanced by the fact that the discharge of the capacitor is performed by a precisely defined reference current as soon as the voltage on the capacitor reaches the comparison voltage. Therefore, the conversion of voltage to the frequency of the pub I in a given time interval. 'The connection of the converter is inexpensive.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which the circuit of an exemplary embodiment of a fast voltage-to-frequency converter according to the invention is shown.
The input terminal JL is connected to the input of a voltage-to-current converter 2, the output of which is connected to the first end of the capacitor 2 *. In this case the second input of comparator 2 j e connected to the source 2 of the comparative voltage and the output of comparator 7 is connected to the input of the monostable multivibrator output of the monostable multivibrator £ is connected to the output terminal 10 and also to the control input of the electronic switch 2 · second terminal of the electronic switch 4 is connected to reference current source 2.
V činnosti se vstupní napětí U přivede na vstupní svorku 2 proti společnému vodiči 2 a kapacitor 5 je z výstupu převodníku 2 napětí na proud nabíjen proudemIn operation, the input voltage U is applied to the input terminal 2 against the common conductor 2 and the capacitor 5 is charged with current from the output of the voltage-to-current converter 2.
Celý proces se periodicky opakuje s kmitočtem přičemž značení jednotlivých veličin je shodné jako v předchozím.I = kU, where k denotes the conversion constant of the voltage-to-current converter 2. Charging continues until the voltage on the capacitor 2 reaches the comparison voltage supplied by the comparison voltage source 2. At that moment, the comparator is flipped and the monostable flip-flop circuit 2 is activated, which generates a pulse for the time T R. During this time, the electronic switch 2 is closed and the capacitor 2 is discharged by the reference current I R from the reference current source 2. The whole process is periodically repeated with frequency, while the marking of individual quantities is the same as in the previous one.
A minor disadvantage is that the accuracy of the conversion depends on the sensitivity of the comparator 1, which determines the moment of activation of the monostable flip-flop 2 and on the stability of the time constant of the monostable flip-flop which determines the discharge time of the capacitor 2 from the reference current source 2. However, with a suitable choice of circuit elements, this disadvantage can be suppressed at a relatively low price of the whole converter.
The fast voltage-to-frequency converter according to the invention has a general use and can be and advantageously applied wherever a fast, simple and inexpensive voltage-to-frequency converter is required. In particular, the fast voltage-to-frequency converter according to the invention can be used in measuring and instrumentation technology, for example in digital voltmeters and ammeters, in digital correlators or in harmonic signal analysis devices operating on the principle of modified Fourier analysis with intermediate conversion of input signal to frequency.
Due to the fact that the circuit solution of the converter according to the invention is very simple, the circuit is suitable for implementation in integrated or hybrid form.
