Abstract

The device for injecting preheated air into a shaft furnace consists of a number of tubular members provided with a refractory lining, which are connected together by a spherical joint (94; 96) and a compensator. The spherical joints are made up of a convex ball formed in one segment and of a concave socket formed in the refractory of the adjacent segment. They comprise a protective sheath made of refractory steel extending around the convex part as far as the base of the ball. The radius of curvature of each spherical joint is of the order of magnitude of one half of the diameter of the tubular members. <IMAGE>
