Abstract

Chimeric peptides obtained by chemical solid-phase synthesis, containing two immunodominant sequences, corresponding to the C-terminal region and the V3 loop, of the gp120 protein of the HIV-1 envelope, separated by two glycines as a spacer arm. The antigenicity of the chimeric peptides was superior to that of the monomeric peptides separately. These peptides can be used as antigens in assays for the detection of antibodies specific to the gp120 protein of HIV-1, in the certification of donor blood and in epidemiological surveillance.
