Abstract
Un método para extraer y recuperar valores de níquel y cobalto de minerales oxídicos lateríticos y garnieríticos portadores de níquel y cobalto. Los minerales reducidos son lixiviados en una solución amoniacal acuosa de carbonato de amonio y sulfato de amoniaco para extraer los valores de níquel y cobalto de los minerales y disolverlos en la solución. El residuo es eliminado de la solución y un gas conteniendo oxígeno es regado dentro de la solución para oxidar los valores de azufre no saturados. La solución oxidada es hervida para eliminar el amoníaco libre y para descomponer el carbonato de amonio y eliminar el dióxido de carbono y amoníaco resultante. La solución es acidificada con ácido sulfúrico o dióxido de azufre a fin de precipitar el níquel como una sal doble compleja. El precipitado es retirado de la solución y ésta es puesta en contacto con un agente sulfurizante a fin de precipitar el sulfuro disuelto de níquel y cobalto.A method for extracting and recovering nickel and cobalt values from lateritic and garnieritic oxide minerals bearing nickel and cobalt. The reduced minerals are leached into an aqueous ammonia solution of ammonium carbonate and ammonia sulfate to extract the nickel and cobalt values from the minerals and dissolve them in the solution. The residue is removed from the solution and a gas containing oxygen is spilled into the solution to oxidize the unsaturated sulfur values. The oxidized solution is boiled to remove free ammonia and to decompose the ammonium carbonate and remove the resulting carbon dioxide and ammonia. The solution is acidified with sulfuric acid or sulfur dioxide in order to precipitate nickel as a complex double salt. The precipitate is removed from the solution and the solution is contacted with a sulfurizing agent in order to precipitate the dissolved nickel and cobalt sulfide.
