Abstract

Kompositwerkstoff, medizinische Anwendung finden koennen. The invention relates to the production of phosphate glass ceramics by controlled crystallization of phosphatin converters via the targeted use of nucleating agents which, under suitable temperature conditions, lead to the precipitation of primary crystal phases insoluble in the glass and thus initiate volume crystallization via epitaxial interaction. These nucleating agents are z. For example, the oxides of manganese, iron, nickel and zirconium, which form mixed heavy-soluble phosphates of the varulite or Brianit type as primary crystal phases in the crystallization of alkali-alkaline earth aluminophosphate glasses. These glass-ceramics represent new phosphate materials, some of which, due to their bioactive behavior, can find medical use as an implant material for bone and hard tissue replacement, possibly as a composite or composite material.

Cnaraktoristik der bekannten technischen LösungenCnaractoristics of the known technical solutions

Phosphatglaskoramiken sird recently become particularly known for medical applications. For example, WATANABE and co-workers have described in a series of patents (eg JP 60-28911, DE 3424777) phosphate glass ceramics for the Dontal range which are produced by crystallization of glasses from the basic system CaO-Al 2 Oa-PjO 5 additions of Li 2 O, ZrO 2 , TiO 2 . Fe 2 O 3 , MnO, V 2 O 5 and others focus solely on the modification of properties, especially the color shade, which is particularly important for dental use purposes. As Hauptkristaliphnso calcium metaphosphate is called.

Soc. 14 [1979), S. 1694).Ca-metaphosphate is also obtained in a special process of controlling the crystallization of Ca-phosphate glasses according to Abe (DE 3142813 [19811], glass rods being passed very slowly through a furnace provided with temperature gradients. As a result, crystallization occurs in directional metaphosphates which impart remarkably high strength and fracture toughness to the material. Sintered foamed ceramic phosphate materials are available from PERNOD, ZARZYCKI et al. Soc. 14 [1979], p. 1694).

The excretion of apatite and AIPO 4 as essential crystal phases from Phosphatinvertgläsern the basic system CaO-Na 2 O-Al 2 O 3 -P 2 O 5 is described in the patents DD 247888, USP 4698318. DE OS 3500287 by J. Vogel, W. Höland , W. Vogel, whereby glass ceramics with clearly bioactive behavior can be produced.

In all these materials, the crystallization is not in the previously known manner, which is generally regulated by the previous phase separation of the starting glass, so it is not controllable in this sense, since the phosphate glasses are generally not prone to microphase separation.

Ziel der ErfindungObject of the invention

The object of the invention is to find ways to control the crystallization of phosphate glasses by adding special nucleating agents as a prerequisite for the production of practically usable phosphate glass junkies.

Darlegung des Wesens der ErfindungExplanation of the essence of the invention

Diese Aufgabe wurde erfindungsgemäß dadurch gelöst, daß Phosphatgläser im ZusammensetzungsbereichThe object of the invention is to find phosphate glass compositions with particular attention to crystal nucleating additives, from which phosphate glass ceramics which can be used practically by volume crystallization are produced. This object is achieved in that phosphate glasses in the composition range

eingesetzt sind und diese Gläser durch nachträgliche 2- bis 20stündige Temperaturbehandlung zwischen 450 :C und 680 C keramisiert werden.and these glasses are ceramized by subsequent temperature treatment between 450 : C and 680 C for 2 to 20 hours.

Den Ausgangspunkt bilden Phosphatinvertgläser aus dem System Na2O-CaO-AI2O3-P2Os, entsprechend der PatentschriftThe starting point is Phosphatinvertgläser from the system Na 2 O-CaO-Al 2 O 3 -P 2 Os, according to the patent

These glasses crystallize with suitable temperature treatment to apatite, AIPO4 in various modifications and other phosphates, but the crystallization is not uniform in the total volume, but usually from the surface.

It has surprisingly been found that by adding between 3 and about 8% by mass of oxides of the metals manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, chromium on reheating to> 450 ° C. of the previously clear, colored phosphate glasses, phosphates from the varulite hagendorfite chicken cobelite Type, e.g. B. as Na 2 CaFe 11 Fe 111 IPO 4 I 3 , finely precipitated in the entire volume v / earth, which cause as nuclei directly resulting crystallization of apatite (hydroxyl or fluorine apatite) on the basis of epitaxial interactions.

The process of primary crystal phase formation is interpreted as the lightening of supersaturation. The heavy metal oxides are previously dissolved in the supersaturated glass. The reduction in viscosity caused by subsequent temperature increase of the previously solidified glass leads to higher mobility of the building blocks and thus to the elimination of the most difficultly soluble phase in the present medium, the respective, also mixed, heavy metal phosphate.

The lower limit for the initiation of volume crystallization is about 3 mol% of the heavy metal oxide in the glass synthesis.

At contents> 7 mol%, spontaneous crystallization usually begins. The intermediate region forms the basis for the controlled crystallization of the doped phosphatinvertic glasses. Additions of ZrO 2 have the same effect of nucleating, whereby sodium zirconium phosphate, NoZr 2 (PO 4 ) 3 , is formed as primary crystal phase. The concentration range of the Übe's saturation is here at 1.5 to 2.0 mol% ZrO 2 in the synthesis. At higher ZrO 2 contents, the spontaneous crystallization of NaZr 2 (PO 4 J 3 , but finely divided throughout the volume) occurs, forming a cloudy glass, which is also used as a starting material for controlled crystallization to form phosphate glass ceramics since the further crystallization sequence is completely analogous to the clear starting glasses and in the entire volume.

Thus, metal oxides which contribute to the subsequent formation of such sparingly soluble phosphate crystal phases under controlled crystallization conditions can function as nucleating agents in these phosphatino-substituted glasses. However, this does not apply to TiO 2 , which, in contrast to the known silicate glass-ceramic base glasses, plays a network-strengthening, glass-stabilizing role, thus favoring glass formation as a whole, suppressing spontaneous crystallization, without (at contents <10% by mass) the ceramization process fundamentally to change. Since the metal ions of the nucleating agents in the crystal lattices of the primary crystal phases can thereby be set, the nucleating agents can usually also be used in combination, with their effects adding up. However, in the case of a combination of FeOVFe 2 O 3 ZZrGs, a slightly modified primary crystal phase is formed, a Na-Ca-Fe-Ze-phosphate of Brianit structure (NaCaFeZrIPO 4 L 1 ), which, however, just like the Varulith type or NaZr 2 (PO 4 ). 3 primary phases epitaxial growth of the main crystal phase apatite initiated.

About the nucleating effect of o. G. In addition to components as described above, it has been found that these components participate in the formation of other crystal phases in the further crystallization sequence. This applies in particular to 2 crystal phases specific for these glass-ceramics: an (iron-zirconium) -aluminum orthophosphate which occurs only in the presence of said nucleants and converts at elevated temperature to a complex phosphate predominantly composed of diphosphate units, which may also contain iron or zirconium ions , These two crystalline phosphates have not yet been described in other contexts and represent a characteristic of this group of substances which essentially determines the structure and properties of these phosphate glass ceramics.

Beispiel 1:Example 1:

Table 1 shows typical examples of compositions of phosphate glasses which, due to the addition of nucleating agents, such as FeO, Fe 2 O 3 , MnO, CoO, NiO, ZrO 2 under suitable annealing conditions for volume crystallization with elimination of certain crystal phases, their phase mixtures targeted can be adjusted, as shown in the following examples to Kermisierung the glasses is still occupied.

Beispiel 2:Example 2:

A glass of composition no. 4 according to Table 1 is brought for 11 hours at 460 ° C in a muffle furnace. After cooling, the sample, which appears to be slightly clouded visually throughout the volume, is X-ray examined. As a sole crystal phase, a Na-Ca-Fe-Zr orthophosphate of Brianit structure is observed, the primary phase of controlled crystallization, NaCaFeZr (PO 4 I 3) Brianit-type phase fluorapatite The increase of the temperature to 500 e C under otherwise identical conditions in addition to the two described phases also leads to AIPO 4 in the tridymite modification and to a Fe-Zr-orthophosphate, which is specific for this type of glass ceramic was finally characterized structurally by NMR studies, and finally annealed at 580 C for 8 h, the largely crystallized sample contains the phases apatite, AIPO 4 (berlinite modification), the Brianit phase and a so-called "complex phosphate", which consists of the Fe-Al Zrorthophosphat emerges and also how this is characteristic of these glass-ceramics.

Beispiel 3:Example 3:

A glass of composition No. 5 according to Table 1, which is clouded due to the spontaneous precipitation of crystallites of the primary crystal phase NaZr 2 (PO 4 I 3 , is held for 8 hours at 495 ° C. A glass ceramic with the phases is formed by uniform volume crystallization NaZr 2 (PO 4 Ij, fluoropatite, AIPO 4 (tridymethylene-like modification) and Al-zirorthophosphate (see Example 2). An increase in the annealing temperature to 575'C leads again to apatite and NaZr 2 (PO 1 I 3 to AIPO 4 -Berlinit and the "complex phosphate".

Beispiel 4:Example 4:

Es kristallisiert als alleinige Phase ein Na-Ca-Fe-phosphat vom Varulithtyp (Na2CaFe11Fe"1) IPO4I3).A glass of composition no. 7 according to Tab. 1 is kept for 24 hours at 53CTC. It crystallizes as a sole phase a Na-Ca-Fe-phosphate of the varulite type (Na 2 CaFe 11 Fe " 1 ) IPO 4 I 3 ).

Beispiel 5:Example 5:

A glass composition no. 12 according to Tab. 1 constitutes at 430 c C, the main crystal phases fluorapatite, AIPO 4 (Tridymiiform) and Mn-AI-orthophosphate microcrystalline evenly throughout the volume of. From 510 C, there is also the "complex phosphate".

Beispiel 6:Example 6:

Die entstandenen Phosphatglaskeramiken entsprechen den Beispielen 2 bis 5.Glasses of the compositions No. 13 to 16 according to Tab. 1 crystallize on the basis of the primary phase formation of the Varulith type uniformly in the entire volume for several hours of annealing in the temperature range of about 500 C to 650 C with elimination of the main crystal phases fluoroapatite, AIPO 4 (Berlinit Tridymite form) and "complex phosphate." The resulting phosphate glass ceramics correspond to Examples 2 to 5.
