Description
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of pure hydrogen and carbon black by continuous, catalytic splitting of methane or methane-containing gas mixtures. The process is advantageously applicable in the chemical industry both for the provision of hydrogen and of high-grade carbon black.
To date, wii i no process for the catalytic production of carbon black used commercially. The known methods are based exclusively! h on the non-catalytic decomposition of carbonaceous starting materials. For this, high temperatures (over 1300K) are required, which either results in raw material losses (process with partial combustion of the fuel) or requires the use of valuable energy sources (processes with thermal decomposition).
In the processes with partial combustion of the raw material, raw materials of different purity are reacted with pure oxygen or with air, depending on the desired quality of the carbon black. The flame soot process uses petroleum or coal tar oil products as raw materials resulting in carbon black soot, hydrocarbon contaminants such as polycyclic aromatics or sulfur impurities. In the more technologically complex channel method, a better soot is produced with regard to the impurities because natural gas is used as the raw material. Also known are the gas soot method, which converts coal tar, and the rurnace method, which uses natural gas, petroleum or coal tar oil products. However, all these methods have the distinct disadvantage that the reaction gases formed in addition to the carbon black contain so many secondary constituents (CO, CO 2 , hydrocarbons, nitrogen, SO 2 , COS, etc.) that no hydrogen production is economical and only calorific utilization is possible , Due to the technologically conditioned reaction zone design (backmixing, wide temperature range, etc.), the quality of the produced soot is also uneven. The thermal cracking processes improve the quality of the carbon black produced and also the composition of the gas of lower variety. The highest carbon black quality is achieved in the arc process (low hydrocarbon raw material) and in the acetylene process, but both processes have the distinct disadvantage in that an extraneous expenditure of energy is required either for the reaction (arc, electric energy) or for the production of raw materials (acetylene, carbide process or arc process).
Furthermore, processes for the production of hydrogen-rich synthesis gases from methane or natural gas are known. In the steam forming process, a mixture of natural gas and water vapor is reacted in an endothermic reaction at temperatures above 1030K on nickel-containing catalysts to CO and Hj-containing mixtures. Soot does not arise. The autotr irm led Diuckvergasung of hydrocarbons with pure oxygen produced at temperatures above 1500 K synthesis gas and soot. In addition to the energy-consuming extraction of oxygen, the process has the disadvantages already described of the complex composition of the reaction gas and of the formation of ash-containing, inferior soot, which can only be used calorically in industrial plants.
Also known is a, but not industrially applied, method (DE OS 2946164) for the production of hydrogen by decomposition of nitrogen-containing natural gas to amorphous, nickel-containing oxide supported catalysts. In this process, the catalyst deactivates rapidly at the temperatures used of 350 to 770K, so it must periodically be regenerated by hydrotreating. Soot can not be recovered, and all hydrogen produced is consumed again for regeneration.
Ziel der ErfindungObject of the invention
Object of the invention dead a method for catalytic! Recovery of pure hydrogen and carbon black from methane or methane-containing gas mixtures such. As natural gas, biogas or cycle gases from hydrogenation.
It is the object of the invention to provide a process in which catalytically a cleavage of methane or methane-containing gas mixtures in pure hydrogen and high-grade carbon black with low energy and technological complexity and in which a simple separation of the carbon black from the catalyst is performed.
This object is achieved by a process for the production of pure hydrogen and carbon black from methane according to the invention by methane or gas mixtures containing such solid catalysts at elevated Tem eretur is cleaved into the elements.
As solid catalysts are particularly suitable oxides, silicates, aluminates and activated carbon, on which metals of the 1st to 2nd
Nebengrüppe of PSE are applied in finely divided form. Particularly preferred are silicon-rich crystalline aluminosilicates of the pentasil type, to which nickel has been applied in an amount of 1 to 30% by weight in%.
For the successful application of the invention, the correct choice of the reaction temperature is of crucial importance.
Good results with regard to the degree of conversion of the methane and also the separation of the carbon black from the catalyst are achieved in the range from 775 to 1100 K, the range from 900 to 1000 K being preferred.
The total pressure is of minor importance, it is optimal application of the invention below 1 MPa.
Of greater importance than the pressure for a favorable embodiment of the invention is the space velocity of the methane or methane-containing gas. While gas loading is within the range of 300 to 60,000 v / vh in the scope of the invention, results are achieved, but preferred is the range of 1000 to 10,000 v / vh. For the selection of the most favorable range of the gas load, the methane content of the raw material (if methane-containing gas mixtures are to be converted), the external shape of the reactor and also of the catalyst particles play a role. In the bavorzugten range of the invention are such gas loads and reactor / catalyst dimensions that is used in the fluidized bed. However, results can be obtained in the fixed catalyst bed, which are within the scope of the invention.
For the application of the method according to the invention is also a vibrating reactor, in which the catalyst bed is mechanically moved by a vibrator with C to 50Hz.
If very high purities of hydrogen are to be achieved, then it is expedient to start with pure methane and possibly switch two or more reactors in series.
Depending on the intended use, the resulting soot can either be used directly or further processed in secondary processing stages. Cleaning with respect to adhering hydrocarbons is not necessary because the resulting in the process of the invention carbon black is completely free of such impurities. If, in the case of nonoptimal use of the invention, catalyst components should have entered the carbon black, very high soot purities can also be achieved by separation processes for carbon black / catalyst systems such as sedimentation, sifting, flotation, magnetic separation or treatment with selectively reacting gases so that soot can be made for very demanding applications by use of the invention. Because of the high purity of the carbon black produced in the process of the invention, it can serve as a source for the production of very pure CO2 by burning it in a controlled manner with pure oxygen. The resulting CO 2 is very suitable for use in the food industry.
