Verfahren zur Herstellung von Furanen
Die !Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Furanen
durch Kondensation von 1,4-Dicarbonylverbindungen in Gegenwart
von Halogenwasserstoffsäure.
Es ist aus Ber. 85, 460 (1952) bekannt, daß sich 1,4-Dicarbonyl-Verbindungen
in Gegenwart von Oxalsäure unter Wasserabspaltung
zu Derivaten des Furans kondensieren lassen. Andererseits lehrt
eine Arbeit in Organic Synthesis, Vol. XVI, 26 [1,936] (John '
Wiley, N.T.), daß in Gegenwart von verdünnter Essigsäure und Schwefelsäure eine Ringöffnung des Furans erzielt werden kann.
Bei den bisher bekannten Verfahren sind die Ausbeuten an Endstoff unbefriedigend, durch Ringöffnung des Furans und entsprechenden
Folgereaktionen werden Nebenprodukte und harzige Rückstände in größerem Maße gebildet.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß man Furane der allgemeinen Formel I

sein können und jeweils ein Wasserstoffatom, einen aliphatischen, araliphatischen oder aromatischen Rest bedeuten, durch
Kondensation von 1,4-Dicarbonylverbindungen in Gegenwart einer Säure, vorteilhaft erhält, wenn man 1,4-Dicarbonylverbindungen

als Katalysator kondensiert.
Die Umsetzung läßt sich für den Fall der Verwendung von Acetcnylaeetessigsäureäthylester
durch folgende Formeln wiedergeben:

Im Vergleich zu bekannten Verfahren liefert das Verfahren nach der Erfindung auf einfachem Wege Furane, in bester Ausbeute
und Reinheit. Im Hinblick auf den Stand der Technik war es überrasch
Λ, daß die Halogenwasserstoffsäuren als anorganische
Säuren die Kondensation der Dicarbonylverbindung katalysieren, ohne daß durch erneute Ringöffnung bei dem gebildeten Furan und
anschließende lOlgereaktionen die Ausbeute an Endstoff erheblich
verschlechtert wird.
Bevorzugte Ausgangsstoffe II und dementsprechend bevorzugte Endstoffe I sind solche, in deren Formeln die einzelnen Reste
R.J und R2 gleich oder verschieden sein können und jeweils ein
Wasserstoffatom, einen Alkylrest mit 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen,
einen Alkylcarbonylrest mit 2 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen, einen Carbalkoxyrest mit 2 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen, einen Aralkylrest
mit 7 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatomen oder einen Phenylrest bedeuten.' Die genannten Reste können noch durch unter den Reaktionsbedingungen
inerte Gruppen, z.B. Alkylgruppen, Alkoxygruppen, Carbalkoxygruppen, Alkylcarbonylgruppen mit jeweils 1 bzw. 2
bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen, substituiert sein.
Folgende 1,4-Dicarbony!verbindungen kommen z.B. als Ausgangsstoffe
II in Frage: 2,3-Diacetylbernsteinsäurepropylester,
2-Oxyglutarsäuredibutylester, Acetonylacetessigsäureäthylester
und entsprechende Methyl-, Isopropyl-, tert.-Butylester; Acetonylaceton,
Bernsteinsäuredialdehyd, 1-Phenyl-2,5-dioxohejcan, 1,4-Diphenylbutan-1,4-dion, 3-Phenyl-2,5-hexandion.

Die Umsetzung wird in Gegenwart von Jodwasserstoffsäure, Bromwasser stoff säure und/oder Fluorwasserstoffsäure, im,allgemeinen
in einer Menge von 0,01 bis 10, vorzugsweise von 0,1 "bis 1 Gewichtsprozent,
bezogen auf Ausgangsstoff II, durchgeführt. Man kann die Halogenwasserstoffsäure wasserfrei, vorzugsweise im
Falle der Fluorwasserstoffsäure, oder in Gestalt einer wäßrigen Lösung, vorzugsweise im Falle der Brom- und Jod-wasserstöffsäure,
anwenden oder Halogenwasserstoffsäure bildende Verbindungen,
z.B. ein Bromid, Jodid, Fluorid und eine die Halogenwasserstoffsäure
daraus in Freiheit setzende Säure, der Reaktion zuführen.
Beispielsweise kommen als Halogenid Natrium- und Kalium-halogenid
und als Säuren Schwefelsäure, Phosphorsäuren in Betracht„
Bevorzugt ist eine 50-bis öOgewichtsprozentige, wäßrige Lösung
von Brom- oder Jodwasserstoffsäure.
Die Reaktion wird in der Regel bei einer Temperatur zwischen 50 und 2000G, vorzugsweise zwischen 80 und 1400C, drucklos oder
unter Druck, kontinuierlich oder diskontinuierlich durchgeführt.
Zweckmäßig verwendet man unter den Reaktionsbedingungen inerte, organische Lösungsmittel, z.B. aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe
wie Benzol, Toluol, Xylole; Chlorkohlenwasserstoffe wie Äthylenchlorid, Trichloräthan, 1,2-Dichloräthan, Chlorbenzol; Nitro-,
methan, Acetonitril; Alkanmonocarbonsäureester wie Essigsäuremethyl- und -äthylester, Ameisensäurepropylester, Buttersäuremethylester; oder entsprechende Gemische. In einer bevorzugten
Ausführungsform des Verfahrens wird das bei der Reaktion gebil—
dete Wasser während der Reaktion mit organischen Lösungsmitteln ausgekreist, die zusammen mit Wasser ein azeotropisch.es Gemisch
bilden, z.B. mit einem der vorgenannten lösungsmittel. Auf diese Weise wird im allgemeinen in viel kürzerer Zeit die Kondensation durchgeführt.
Die folgende Tabelle zeigt die Ausbeute an Endstoff unter Ver-•wendung
verschiedener Säuren als Katalysatoren im Vergleich zu Jodwasserstoffsäure nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung. Sie illustriert
den mit Halogenwasserstoff erzielten technischen Fortschritt. *

Die Reaktion kann wie folgt durchgeführt werden: Ein Gemisch von Ausgangsstoff II Balogenwasserstoffsäure und gegebenenfalls
Wasser, zweckmäßig zusammen mit Lösungsmittel, wird während 1 bis 10 Stunden bei der Reaktionstemperatur gehalten.
Vorteilhaft kreist man während der gesamten Reaktionszeit das gebildete Wasser mittels azeotroper Destillation aus. Anschließend
wird aus dem Gemisch in bekannter Weise, z.B. durch fraktionierte Destillation, der Endstoff isoliert.
Die nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung herstellbaren Verbindungen sind Bakterizide, Härtungsmittel und wertvolle Ausgangsstoffe
für die Herstellung von Farbstoffen, Schädlingsbekämpfungsmitteln, Lösungsmitteln, Hilfsmittel in der Lack- und Riechstoffindustrie.
Bezüglich der Verwendung wird auf Ullmanns Encyklopädie der technischen Chemie, Band 7, Seiten 707 ff verwiesen.

Die in den folgenden Beispielen auf geführten Teile "bedeuten
Gewichtsteile.
Beispiel 1 - . ■ ";
In einem Rührkessel werden 186 Teile Aeetonylacetessigsäureäthylester
in 184 Teilen Toluol gelöst und in Gegenwart von
einem Teil einer wäßrigen 57$igen Jodwasserstoffsäure während
4 Stunden bei einer Temperatur von 85 bis "1250C-kondensiert.
Das entstehende Wasser wird durch azeotrope Destillation aus dem Reaktionsgemisch entfernt, Nach Abdestillieren von 18 Teilen ¥asser entfernt man das Toluol und isoliert den Endstoff
durch fraktionierte Destillation im Vakuum. Man erhält bei 93
92 bis 930C 153 Teile 2,5-Dimethyl-3-furancarbonsäure-
äthylester (n^ = 1,4686) (91 $ der Theorie). .
Analog Beispiel 1 werden 114 Teile Aeetonylaceton in Gegenwart
von einem Teil einer wäßrigen 57$igen Jodwasserstoffsäure bei
900C kondensiert. Man erhält 91 Teile (95 1<>
der Theorie) 2,5-Dimethylfurari vom Kp 93 bis 940C.
Beispiel 3 ' ·
In einem Rührkessel werden, wie in Beispiel 1 beschrieben, *
186 Teile Acetonylacetessigsäureäthylester in 184 Teilen Toluol gelöst und in Gegenwart von einem Teil einer 48$igen wäßrigen
Bromwasserstoffsäure bei einer Temperatur von 100 bis 1200C kondensiert.
Bei sonst gleicher Arbeitsweise erhält man 155 Teile 2,5-Dimethyl-3-furancarbonsäureäthylester (nj. = 1,4686; Kp.g =
92 bis 930C). ·

In einem Stah.ld.ruckgefäß werden bei Raumtemperatur 186 Teile
Acetonylacetessigsäureäthylester in 100 Teilen Toluol gelöst and mit 50 Teilen wasserfreier Fluorwasserstoffsäure versetzt.
Man erwärmt das Gemisch eine Stunde auf 800C und entfernt nach,
dem Abkühlen auf Raumtemperatur den Fluorwasserstoff im Vakuum. Der Rückstand wird mit Wasser ausgeschüttelt und die gebildete
organische Phase destilliert. Man erhält bei Kp.,/- = 92 bis 930G
