Description
- Diese Erfindung betrifft die Verdickung von Wasser oder hydrophilen Lösungsmitteln durch Verwendung von mit Ton vermischten schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid-Verbindungen.
- Es gibt unterschiedliche Gründe zur Verdickung von Wasser, wäßrigen Lösungen, hydrophilen Lösungsmitteln und dgl., wie etwa zur Anwendung als auf Wasser basierende Metallbearbeitungsfluids, Feuerbekämpfungsfluids, Ölfeldbohrfluids, Nahrungsmittelzusätze, hydraulische Fluids, auf Wasser basierende Anstriche oder Beschichtungen, Stripplösungen und andere Anwendungsformen, worin eine Verdickung einer Flüssigkeit oder Lösung von Nutzen ist.
- Wasserverdickungsmittel wie etwa Guargummi und Polyacrylamid sind gegenüber hoher Scherung, hydrothermischer Behandlung oberhalb etwa 250ºF (120ºC), Oxidation, bakteriellen Angriffen und Salzen nicht stabil. Zur Lösung einiger dieser Probleme sind manchmal Zusatzstoffe wie Bakterizide und Antioxidantien erforderlich.
- Verdickungsmittel oder Viskosifizierungsmittel für wäßrige Materialien wie etwa Bohrfluids, die eine Form von wasserhaltiger Aluminiumverbindung enthalten, werden beispielsweise in den US-Patenten 4,240,915, 4,349,443, 4,366,070, 4,389,319, 4,428,845, 4,431,550, 4,447,341, 4,473,479 und 4,486,318 offenbart. Patente, die andere Formen von Aluminiumverbindungen für den gleichen Zweck offenbaren, sind z. B. die US- Patente 4,240,924, 4,353,804, 4,411,800 und 4,473,480. Ähnliche Patente, die andere Typen von Viskosifizierungsmitteln offenbaren, sind z. B. die US-Patente 4,255,268, 4,264,455, 4,312,765, 4,363,736 und 4,474,667.
- Die obigen Patente betreffen die Herstellung der wasserhaltigen Aluminiumverbindungen in situ. Die hauptsächlichen Nachteile eines solchen Verfahrens sind: (1) das resultierende verdickte Fluid enthält größere Mengen an Reaktionssalzen. Dies kann in vielen Situationen unerwünscht sein. In Anwendungsformen wie etwa Anstrichen, Metallbearbeitungsfluids oder auf Wasser basierenden hydraulischen Fluids könnte beispielsweise das Vorhandensein von Salz große Korrosionsprobleme verursachen. Im Falle von Ölfeld-Bohrfluids funktionieren viele Qualitätszusätze bei Vorhandensein von Salz nicht gut. Daher ist es wünschenswert, in Süßwasser zu bohren, sofern dies möglich ist. (2) Die in den zitierten Patenten beschriebenen Reaktionen verlaufen in situ (z. B. in der Schlammgrube einer Bohrstelle). Unter solchen Bedingungen kann die Reaktion nicht ausreichend gesteuert werden und die Eigenschaften des resultierenden Verdickers können nicht vorhergesagt werden.
- Andere Probleme bei Verwendung von Al(OH)&sub3; als Gelbildungsmittel für Verfahren wie etwa als Ölfeld-Bohrfluids sind wie folgt:
- 1. Al(OH)&sub3; Gele verschlechtern sich bekannterweise über die Zeit, sofern nicht bestimmte Salze wie etwa Carbonatsalze vorhanden sind.
- 2. Die Rheologie von Al(OH)&sub3; ist bei sich ändernden pH-Werten nicht sehr konstant. Eine Aufschlämmung von Al(OH)&sub3; kann beispielsweise bei einem pH von 6 sehr dick und gleichförmig sein, bei einem pH von 10, den die Bohrindustrie bevorzugt kollabiert jedoch die Aufschlämmung und das Al(OH)&sub3; fällt aus der Suspension aus. Dies schafft erhebliche Probleme, da die meisten Bohrvorgänge bei pH-Werten im Bereich von 9 bis 10,5 laufen.
- Ein historisch beliebtes Verdickungsmittel, insbesondere in Bohrschlamm, sind Mineraltone wie etwa Bentonitton, die oft mit anderen Mitteln oder Verdichtern wie etwa Fe&sub2;O&sub3;, BaSO&sub4; und anderen verwendet werden. Variationen des Bentonittons von Charge zu Charge und insbesondere eine Empfindlichkeit gegenüber-Ionen und Temperatur haben zu erratischen Ergebnissen geführt und während der Anwendung ist oft eine Änderung der Formulierung erforderlich; dies behindert die Bohrvorgänge.
- Bestimmte Formen von kristallinen schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxiden werden z. B. in den US-Patenten 4,477,367, 4,446,201 und 4,392,979 offenbart, worin Li, Mg, Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, Co und Ni ein Teil der schichtförmigen Kristallstruktur sind. Andere Metallaluminate werden z. B. in den US-Patenten 2,395,931, 2,413,184, 3,300,577 und 3,567,472 offenbart. Diese Verbindungen werden mittels unterschiedlicher Reaktionen hergestellt, einschließlich Copräzipitationen, Intercalationen, Säurebehandlungen und Basenbehandlungen.
- Beim Bohren von Ölquellen erfüllen Bohrfluids oder "Schlämme" mehrere Funktionen:
- 1. Sie entfernen Durchstiche aus dem Loch.
- 2. Sie kühlen die Bohrspitze.
- 3. Sie sorgen für einen hydrostatischen Druck, um den
- Formationsdruck auszugleichen.
- 4. Sie steuern das Eindringen von Fluids in die Formation und schützen die Formation.
- Die Funktionen 1. und 3. in der obigen Liste können nur erfüllt werden, wenn das Bohrfluid eine akzeptable Rheologie aufweist. Die am meisten wünschenswerte Rheologie, die ein Bohrfluid besitzen kann, ist Pseudoplastizität. Es gibt mehrere Scherungszonen im Bohrloch einer Quelle und das Fluid sollte in diesen Zonen variierende Viskositäten aufweisen. Im Ring zwischen dem Bohrrohr und der Formation ist die Scherungsrate etwa 100 bis 1000 sec&supmin;¹. An der Bohrspitze ist die Scherungsrate zwischen 25.000 und 200.000 sec&supmin;¹. In der Schlammgrube ist die Scherungsrate kleiner als 30 sec&supmin;¹. Um Bohrfeststoffe bei geringen Scherungsraten zu befördern, muß ein Fluid eine erhebliche Viskosität aufweisen. Wenn jedoch das Fluid eine hohe Viskosität an der Bohrspitze aufweist, geht Energie beim Pumpen des Fluids verloren. Daher sollte sich ein gutes Bohrfluid bei Scherung verdünnen. Es ist sehr wichtig, daß das Fluid diese Rheologie über den Bohrprozeß hinweg behält. Viele nachteilige Bedingungen, die typischerweise die Qualität existierender Bohrfluids beeinträchtigen, sind jedoch verschiedene Kationen wie etwa Calcium und Magnesium, fluktuierende Salzkonzentrationen, hohe Temperaturen, oxidative Bedingungen und das Vorhandensein von Bakterien.
- Manche der kommerziell akzeptierten Gelbildungsmittel, die in auf Wasser basierenden Bohrfluids verwendet werden, sind Polymere wie etwa Xanthangummi, Guargummi und Polyacrylamide. Nicht-polymere Gelbildungsmittel sind typischerweise Tone, wie etwa Bentonit und Attapulgit. Jedes dieser Gelbildungsmittel hat seine eigenen Beschränkungen. Die Polymere sind typischerweise gegen verschiedene Salze instabil, sie sind gegen Oxidation und bakterielle Angriffe empfindlich, sie brechen unter übermäßiger Scherung zusammen und sie sind nur bis etwa 250 bis 300ºF (120 bis 150ºC) thermisch stabil. Der beliebteste Gelbildungston ist Bentonit. Der Bentonit wird durch polyvalente Kationen stark beeinträchtigt und ist bis auf etwa 93ºC beschränkt, sofern nicht bestimmte Verdünner zugesetzt werden. Bentonit kann jedoch nicht oxidiert werden und ist gegenüber Hochscherungsbedingungen völlig stabil.
- Oft werden polymere Materialien den Bentonitdispersionen zugesetzt, so daß man weniger Ton verwenden muß. Einige der gebräuchlichen Bentonit-Streckmittel sind Polyacrylamid und Benex® Copolymer, das von Baroid erhältlich ist. In einem typischen gestreckten Bentonitsystem ist die Bentonitkonzentration zwischen 15 und 20 lb/bbl (40 bis 60 g/l) und die Konzentration des Streckpolymers ist üblicherweise zwischen 0,1 und 0,5 lb/bbl (0,3 bis 1,4 g/l). Das gestreckte Bentonitsystem ist immer noch gegenüber den mit divalenten Ionen wie etwa Ca&spplus;² assoziierten Problemen empfindlich, und es ist thermisch nur so stabil wie das Streckpolymer. Die Systeme sind auch gegenüber bakteriellen Angriffen und Oxidation empfindlich.
- Gemäß vorliegender Erfindung wird eine neue Stoffzusammensetzung hergestellt, die aus dem Reaktionsprodukt von mindestens einem Mineralton, wie etwa Natriumbentonit, und einem schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid besteht. Diese neue Zusammensetzung eignet sich als Gelbildungsmittel von beispielsweise einem Bohrfluid oder einem anderen thixotropen Fluid. Die schichtförmige Mischmetallhydroxid-Verbindung hat die folgendende empirische Formel

- D divalente Metallionen bedeutet,
- d die Anzahl von Ionen D, von 0 bis etwa 4 ist,
- T trivalente Metallionen bedeutet,
- A monovalente oder polyvalente Anionen bedeutet, die von OH Ionen verschieden sind,
- m von etwa 0 bis etwa 1 ist,
- a die Zahl von Ionen A ist,
- n die Valenz von A ist,
- na von 0 bis etwa -3 ist,
- (m+d) größer als 0 ist,
- q von 0 bis etwa 6 ist, und
- (m+2d+3+na) gleich oder größer 3 ist.
- Diese schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxide werden vorzugsweise durch eine unverzögerte ("Flash") Copräzipitation erzeugt, worin lösliche Verbindungen, z. B. Salze, der Metalle mit einem alkalischen Material, das Hydroxylgruppen liefert, zur Bildung wasserhaltiger Mischmetalloxidkristalle innig vermischt werden (unter Verwendung eines scherungsfreien Rührens oder Mischens). Die durch Flash-Copräzipitation hergestellten Kristalle sind im wesentlichen eine Monoschicht oder eine Schicht des Mischmetallhydroxids pro Einheitszelle und sie sind in einem flüssigen Träger im wesentlichen monodispergiert, was zeigt, daß einzelne Kristalle separate Schichten des Mischmetallhydroxids sind. Es wird angenommen, daß diese Monoschicht-Kristalle neu sind.
- In der obigen Formel (I) kann m von 0 bis etwa 1, vorzugsweise von 0,5 bis 0,75 reichen, wenn es verwendet wird.
- Das Metall D bedeutet divalente Metallionen und kann Mg, Ca, Ba, Sr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, am meisten bevorzugt Mg oder Ca, oder Gemische davon sein und der Wert von d kann 0 bis etwa 4, vorzugsweise 1 bis 3 und am meisten bevorzugt etwa 1 sein.
- Das Metall T kann Al, Ga, Cr oder Fe, vorzugsweise Al oder Fe und am meisten bevorzugt Al sein.
- Die Anionen A können monovalent, divalent, trivalent oder polyvalent sein und es kann sich um anorganische Ionen wie etwa Halogenid, Sulfat, Nitrat, Phosphat, Carbonat, am meisten bevorzugt Halogenid, Sulfat, Phosphat oder Carbonat handeln oder sie können hydrophile organische Ionen wie etwa Glykolat, Lignosulfat, Polycarboxylat, Polyacrylat oder Salze davon wie etwa Natriumpolyacrylat sein. Diese Anionen sind oft gleich wie die Anionen, die einen Teil der Metallverbindungsvorstufen bilden, aus denen die neuen Kristalle hergestellt werden.
- Die Verbindung von Formel (I) und ihr Tonaddukt sind beide in der Ladung im wesentlichen ausgeglichen und vorzugsweise neutral. "Im wesentlichen ausgeglichen" bedeutet, daß wenig positive oder negative Nettoladung vorhanden ist.
- Die Flüssigkeit, welche durch das hier beschriebene Gelbildungsmittel geliert wird, kann eine wäßrige Flüssigkeit wie etwa Wasser oder eine wäßrige Lösung oder ein hydrophiles organisches Material wie etwa Alkohol oder Keton sein; auch eine Dispersion oder Emulsion, die ein wäßriges Medium umfaßt, das unlösliche Bestandteile (organisch oder anorganisch) in dispergierter Form enthält, kann durch Anwendung des hier beschriebenen Gelbildungsmittels geliert werden. Während das vorliegende Gelbildungsmittel sich als Verdickungsmittel für auf Wasser basierende Metallbearbeitungsfluids, Feuerbekämpfungsfluids, Nahrungsmittelzusätze, hydraulische Fluids, Latexanstriche, Strippfluids, Schmiermittel und andere erwiesen hat, insbesondere wo eine extreme Pseudoplastizität eine erwünschte Eigenschaft ist, eignet es sich insbesondere in Bohrfluids, ob es für das Bohren von Ölquellen, Wasserquellen oder Gasquellen ist, einschließlich des Bohrens im Meeresgrund.
- Beim bevorzugten Flash-Copräzipitationsverfahren wird ein Gemisch der ausgewählten löslichen Metallverbindungen, insbesondere der Säuresalze (z. B. Chlorid, Nitrat, Sulfat, Phosphat) in einem wäßrigen Träger gelöst. Die Verhältnisse der Metallionen in der Lösung werden festgesetzt, um die im Endprodukt gewünschten Verhältnisse zu ergeben. Die Konzentrationsgrenze der Metallverbindungen in der Lösung wird teilweise durch die Sättigungskonzentration der am wenigsten löslichen Metallverbindung in der Lösung diktiert; alle nicht gelösten Anteile der Metallverbindungen können als separate Phase im Endprodukt verbleiben, was üblicherweise kein ernstes Problem ist, wenn die Konzentration einer solchen separaten Phase eine relativ geringe Menge im Vergleich zu den löslichen Anteilen, vorzugsweise nicht mehr als 20% der Menge an löslichen Anteilen ist. Dann wird die Lösung schnell und innig mit einer alkalischen Quelle von OH Ionen vermischt, während man im wesentlichen eine Scherungsrührung vermeidet, wodurch Monoschicht-Kristalle von schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxiden gebildet werden. Ein gebräuchlicher Weg, um ein solches Mischen zu erreichen, ist durch Leiten der diversen Zufuhrströme in ein Misch-T-Stück, aus dem das Gemisch abfließt, das das Reaktionsprodukt einschließlich der schichtförmigen Monoschicht-Mischmetallhydroxide der obigen Formel (I) enthält. Anschließend kann das Gemisch filtriert, mit Süßwasser zur Entfernung nicht zugehöriger löslicher Ionen (wie etwa Na&spplus;, NH&sub4;&spplus; Ionen und andere lösliche Ionen) gewaschen werden, die kein Teil des gewünschten Produkts sind.
- Das jeweils bei der Durchführung kristallographischer Analysen der so erhaltenen schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxide verwendete Transmissionselektronenmikroskop wurde an seinen maximalen Nachweisgrenzen betrieben, d. h. bei einer Auflösung von etwa 8 Angström (0,8 nm). Die Kristalle waren bezüglich ihres Durchmessers so dünn, daß eine gewisse Kräuselung der Monoschicht-Kristalle gefunden wurde, was genaue Dickenmessungen schwierig machte, aber vernünftige Abschätzungen bringen die Kristalldicke in den Bereich von 8 bis 16 Angström (0,8 bis 1,6 nm) für verschiedene Kristalle. Während des Trocknungsprozesses tritt, wie in der Analyse erkennbar war, eine gewisse Agglomerierung von Kristallen auf, was zu Teilchen führt, die eine Vielzahl der Monoschicht-Einheitszellstrukturen enthalten. In den Analysen sind viele flache, nicht-agglomerierte Kristalle nachweisbar. Diese Monoschicht- Einheitskristalle stehen im Gegensatz zu zweischichtigen und dreischichtigen Einheitszellstrukturen, auf die z. B. im US- Patent 4,461,714 verwiesen wird.
- Ein Verfahren zur Herstellung der schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid-Zusammensetzung, jedoch nicht ausschließlich das einzige Verfahren, besteht darin, eine Lösung von Metallsalzen wie etwa Magnesium- und Aluminiumsalzen (etwa 0,25 molar) mit einer geeigneten Base wie etwa Natriumhydroxid oder Ammoniak in ausreichenden Mengen zu reagieren, um die schichtförmige Mischmetallhydroxidverbindung von Formel (I) zu copräzipitieren. Für Ammoniumhydroxid ist der am meisten bevorzugte Bereich zwischen 1 und 1,5 Äquivalente OH pro Äquivalent des Anions.
- Die Copräzipitation sollte bei der bevorzugten Flash-Methode mit geringer oder keiner Scherung erfolgen, so daß die resultierenden Flocken nicht zerstört werden. Eine Methode um dies zu erreichen besteht darin, zwei Ströme, den Salzstrom und den Basenstrom, gegeneinander zu leiten, so daß sie in einer Auftreffzone mit geringer Scherung aufeinandertreffen, wie man sie einem T-Stück findet. Dann wird das Reaktionsprodukt filtriert und gewaschen, was einen Filterkuchen mit etwa 10% Feststoffen ergibt. Wenn die schichtförmige Mischmetallhydroxid-Zusammensetzung sorgfältig gewaschen worden ist, um die gelöste Salzkonzentration auf einen relativ niedrigen Wert, z. B. etwa 300 ppm oder weniger zu verringern, tritt an dieser Stelle ein seltsames Phänomen auf. Mit der Zeit verändert sich der Filterkuchen von einem festen wachsartigen Material zu einer opaleszierenden Flüssigkeit, die wirksam Licht streut. Wenn ionisches Material wieder in die Dispersion eingebracht wird, erhöht sich die Viskosität drastisch und die Dispersion geliert. Die Rate der "Entspannung" hängt von den Konzentrationen freier Ionen in der Dispersion ab und sie tritt nicht auf, wenn die Konzentrationen zu hoch sind. Die Wirkung verschiedener Ionen auf den Entspannungsprozeß ist unterschiedlich. Der Entspannungsprozeß ist beispielsweise gegenüber monovalenten Ionen wie etwa Chloridionen toleranter als gegenüber polyvalenten Ionen wie etwa Sulfat, Carbonat oder Phosphat.
- Wenn die entspannte Dispersion getrocknet wird, bildet das Material bei Erreichen einer Feststoffkonzentration von 20 bis 25% ein festes, hartes, durchsichtiges Material, das sehr spröde ist. Es kann zu einem Pulver zerkleinert werden, obwohl es etwa 80% Wasser ist. Diese Festsubstanz redispergiert sich nicht gut in Wasser oder anderen hydrophilen Lösungsmitteln. Selbst wenn man Scherung mit einem Waring Blender oder einem Ultraschall-Zellaufbrecher anwendet, können die Feststoffe nicht zur Bildung stabiler Dispersionen gebracht werden.
- Eine vorteilhafte Methode zur Trocknung des Materials besteht darin, eine Menge an hydrophilem organischen Material wie etwa Glycerin oder Polyglykol vor dem Trocknen der entspannten Dispersion zuzusetzen. Wenn dies erfolgt, dispergiert das resultierende trockene Material spontan in Wasser. Wenn man dann ein Salz zu dieser Dispersion gibt, nimmt die Viskosität des Fluids auf gleiche Weise wie bei der flüssigen Dispersion zu. Diese Trocknungstechnik funktioniert nicht, wenn erhebliche Mengen an gelösten Salzen in der Dispersion vorhanden sind. In diesem Falle ist eine gewisse Dispergierung möglich, das resultierende Fluid zeigt jedoch keine Viskositätserhöhung.
- Eines der unterscheidenden Merkmale von vorliegenden bevorzugten wasserhaltigen Mischmetalloxide ist die Tatsache, daß bei Filtration nach der Flash-Coprazipitation auf dem Filter ein Gel zurückbleibt, das überwiegend die Flüssigphase ist, wobei die kristallinen wasserhaltigen Oxide durch die Flüssigkeit so aufgequollen sind, daß sie nicht als Festphase erkennbar sind. Man möchte das Gel als "Semi-Lösung" oder "Quasi-Lösung" bezeichnen und es sieht aus und fühlt sich an wie ein halbfestes Wachs. Dies steht im Gegensatz zu wasserhaltigen Oxidpräzipitaten des Standes der Technik, die ohne weiteres als diskretes teilchenförmiges festes Material aus einer Flüssigkeit filtriert werden können. Offenbar erlaubt oder bewirkt die besondere, hier erhaltene kristalline Morphologie die Aufnahme und das Halten großer Mengen der Flüssigkeit.
- Das Mischmetallhydroxid kann auch entweder aus reinen Mischmetallhydroxidverbindungen oder physikalischen Mischungen der schichtförmigen Verbindungen miteinander oder mit anderen wasserhaltigen Oxiden der Metalle D oder T wie etwa z. B. wasserhaltigem Aluminiumoxid, wasserhaltigem Magnesiumoxid, wasserhaltigen Eisenoxiden, wasserhaltigem Zinkoxid und wasserhaltigen Chromoxiden zusammengesetzt sein.
- Obwohl diese Offenbarung weitgehend auf den sogenannten Bentonitformen von Ton beruht, sollte angemerkt werden, daß andere Formen und Klassen von Ton innerhalb des Bereichs der im vorliegenden beanspruchten Erfindung liegen, wie etwa amorpher Ton (z. B. der Allophangruppe) und kristalliner Ton (z. B. 2-schichtig, 3-schichtig, expandierender Typ, nichtexpandierender Typ, langgestreckter Typ, regulärer Mischschichtentyp und Kettenstrukturtyp). Eine nicht erschöpfende Auflistung der Tone ist beispielsweise wie folgt:
- Bentonit Vermiculit
- Kaolinit Chlorit
- Halloysit Attapulgit
- Smectit Sepiolit
- Montmorillonit Palygorskit
- Illit Fuller-Erde
- Saconit
- Wenn Mengen der schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid-Verbindung von Formel (I) mit einer wäßrigen Dispersion von Natriumbentonit vermischt werden, die eine Konzentration von nur 0,5 Gew.-% aufweist, erhöht sich die Viskosität der resultierenden Dispersion drastisch. Der Fließpunkt steigt dramatisch an und die plastische Viskosität erhöht sich nur leicht. Der untere Bereich von Natriumbentonit kann etwa 2 lb/bbl (6 g/l; 0,6 Gew.-%) sein und die minimale Menge des schichtförmmgen Mischmetallhydroxids, die für eine signifikante Viskositätserhöhung erforderlich ist, beträgt etwa 0,1 lb/bbl (0,3 g/l; 0,029 Gew.-%). Die Vorteile, die man beobachtet, sind, daß die resultierende Aufschlämmung aus Ton und schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid durch variierende Calciumkonzentrationen im wesentlichen unbeeinflußt bleibt; sie scheint bis mindestens 400ºF (200ºC) thermisch stabil zu sein (16 h Test); sie trägt Beschwerungsmaterialien wie etwa Barit wirksam; sie ist mit üblichen Fluidverlust-Kontrollmitteln wie etwa Carboxymethylcellulose, Carboxyethylcellulose und Polyacrylaten kompatibel und die Viskosität, insbesondere der Fließpunkt, kann mit kommerziellen Verdünnern wie etwa Lignit und Lignosulfonat leicht gesteuert werden.
- Die Wechselwirkung des schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxids mit Bentonit scheint ein Ionenaustauschphänomen zu umfassen.
- Unsere Theorie betreffend die Wechselwirkung ist wie folgt. Es ist allgemein bekannt, daß Tone wie etwa Bentonit strukturelle Defekte besitzen, die zu negativen Nettoladungen in den Tonkristallen führen. Diese Ladungen müssen durch Kationen ausgeglichen werden, um elektrische Neutralität zu erreichen, was zur Kationenaustauscherkapazität führt, die bei Bentonit beobachtet wird. Im Falle von Natriumbentonit, der üblicherweise der Ton der Wahl für Bohrfluids ist, gleicht das Natriumion die Ladung auf dem Kristall aus. Unsere Daten weisen auch daraufhin, daß es einen signifikanten Betrag von Anionenaustauscherkapazität in den hier offenbarten, schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid-Verbindungen gibt. Wir nehmen an, daß das schichtförmige Mischmetallhydroxid mit dem Bentonit durch Ionenaustausch mit Natriumionen wechsel wirkt. Das Ergebnis dieser Reaktion ist, daß es einen Anstieg bei der Konzentration löslicher Natriumsalze in der Dispersion gibt. Das Natrium stammt aus dem Ton und das Anion stammt aus dem schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid. Da die Reaktionen eine Anionenaustauschreaktion zu sein scheint, sollte es möglich sein, sie zu verhindern oder die Wechselwirkung zwischen dem schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid und dem Ton zu zerstören, in dem ein Ion oder eine Gruppe von Ionen mit einer größeren Affinität für entweder den Ton oder die schichtförmige Mischmetallhydroxid-Verbindung als für den jeweiligen assoziierten Kristall in das System eingebracht wird. Ein solches Ion ist Phosphat. Wenn Phosphationen in der schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid-Verbindung vorhanden sind, tritt die Wechselwirkung mit dem Ton nicht auf. Wenn Phosphationen einer Dispersion, die Bentonit und schichtförmige Mischmetallhydroxid-Verbindungen enthält, zugesetzt werden, nimmt die Viskosität ab und die Wechselwirkung kann vollständig zerstört werden. Andere Ionen, welche die gleiche Wirkung verursachen können, sind organische Ionen, wie etwa Lignit, Lignosulfonat und dgl . . Einige Ionen, welche keine signifikante Abnahme der Viskositäten verursachen, sind Na&spplus;, Ca&spplus;², Mg&spplus;², Cl&supmin;, CO&sub3;&supmin;², HS&supmin; und SO&sub4;&supmin;². Dies soll keine vollständige Liste von Ionen sein, welche die Wechselwirkung nicht stören, sie ist nur deshalb angegeben, um den Typ von Ionen zu zeigen, der mit dem System kompatibel sein kann.
- Da eine chemische Reaktion zwischen dem Ton und schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid-Verbindungen auftritt, nehmen wir an, daß eine neue Stoffzusammensetzung gebildet worden ist. Diese neue Zusammensetzung scheint ein Salz zu sein, worin das Kation ein schichtförmiger Mischmetallhydroxid-Kristall ist und das Anion eine Toneinheit ist. Die Zusammensetzung ist als Verbindung gekennzeichnet, in der sowohl das Kation als auch das Anion diskrete Kristalle sind. Die Zusammensetzungen könnten als "Kristallsalz" bezeichnet werden oder man könnte sagen, daß in wäßriger Dispersion Kristallionenpaare existieren. Diese Annahme wird weiter durch die Tatsache unterstützt, daß die Stärken der Wechselwirkung im Zusammenhang mit der verfügbaren Kationenaustauscherkapazität des verwendeten Tons stehen.
- Das Kristallsalz oder Addukt kann durch eine Reaktion hergestellt werden, bei der man ein wäßriges Gel oder eine Dispersion des schichtförmigen Hydroxids mit einer wäßrigen Dispersion des Tons innig vermischt, wobei Metallionen aus dem Ton und Anionen aus dem schichtförmigen Hydroxid durch Ionenaustausch von Anionen aus dem Ton gegen Anionen aus dem schichtförmigen Hydroxid in die wäßrige Lösung gehen und wobei ein Addukt des schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxids und des Tons gebildet wird.
- Das gebildete Addukt hat vorzugsweise ein Gewichtsverhältnis von schichtförmigem Hydroxid/Ton von etwa 0,02/1 bis etwa 1/1.
- In jedem der folgenden Beispiele wurde die Mischmetallhydroxid-Schichtverbindung durch Copräzipitation hergestellt. Dann wurde sie filtriert und gewaschen, um reines Material zu ergeben. Dieses gereinigte Produkt wurde dann in Wasser dispergiert, das Anteile an Tonmineralien enthielt, um das verdickte Fluid zu ergeben.
- In dieser Offenbarung sind die folgenden US-metrischen Umrechnungsfaktoren anzuwenden: 1 gal = 3,785 Liter, 1 lb = 0,454 kg, 1 lb/gal (U.S.) = 119,83 kg/m³, 1 bbl = 42 gal = 159 Liter, 1 lb/ft² = 47,88 Pascal, 1 lb/100 ft² = 4,88 kg/100 m², 1 lb/bbl = 2,85 kg/m³.
- Die folgenden Beispiele sollen bestimmte Ausführungsformen veranschaulichen, aber die Erfindung ist nicht auf die jeweils gezeigten Ausführungsformen beschränkt.
- Es wurde eine 0,25 molare Lösung von MgCl&sub2;·AlCl&sub3; hergestellt. Dann wurde diese Lösung durch eine peristaltische Pumpe in einen Arm eines T-Stücks gepumpt. Eine 2,5 molare Lösung von NH&sub4;OH wurde in einen zweiten entgegengesetzten Arm des T- Stücks gepumpt, so daß die beiden Lösungen im T-Stück aufeinandertrafen. Das Produkt strömte aus dem dritten Arm heraus und in einen Becher. Die Ströme der beiden Lösungen wurden sorgfältig eingestellt, so daß das Produkt der Copräzipitationsreaktionen einen pH-Wert von etwa 9,5 besitzt. In dieser Situation führt das zu etwa einem 10 bis 20%-igen Überschuß von NH&sub4;OH. Das Reaktorprodukt bestand aus zarten Flocken von MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3 suspendiert in einer wäßrigen Lösung von NH&sub4;Cl. Die Dispersion wurde dann sorgfältig in einen Büchner-Trichter mit einem mittleren Papierfilter gegossen. Das Produkt wurde filtriert und im Filter zur Entfernung des überschüssigen NH&sub4;Cl mit Wasser gewaschen. Die Konzentration an gelöstem Cl&supmin; war etwa 300 ppm, wie durch eine Cl&supmin; spezifische Ionenelektrode gemessen wurde. Der resultierende Filterkuchen war durchsichtig, aber nicht optisch klar.
- Der Kuchen hatte etwa 9 Gew. -% Feststoffe, was durch Trocknen einer Probe bei 150ºC für 16 Stunden bestimmt wurde. Der Kuchen hatte die Konsistenz von weichem Kerzenwachs. Das Produkt wurde auf Mg und Al analysiert. Es wurde gefunden, daß das Verhältnis Mg:Al im wesentlichen 1 : 1 war.
- Eine elektronenmikrographische Analyse des Produkts zeigte dünne Plättchen mit Durchmessern von 300 bis etwa 500 Angström. Die Teilchen waren so dünn, daß sie sich in einigen Fällen kräuselten. Abschätzungen der Dicken dieser Teilchen sind etwa 10 bis etwa 20 Angström. Die maximale Auflösung auf dem Mikroskop ist etwa 8 Angström. Die theoretische Dicke einer Schicht von MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3 ist 7,5 Angström. Es sollte auch angemerkt werden, daß beim Prozeß zur Präparation der Probe für die Elektronenmikroskopie das Material getrocknet wurde, was offenbar eine gewisse Agglomerierung der Kristalle verursachte, so daß Teilchen entstanden, die mehrere Monoschicht-Einheitszellstrukturen enthalten.
- Nach ungestörtem Stehen für etwa 16 Stunden hatte der Filterkuchen die Konsistenz von Petroleumgelee. Nach etwa 48 Stunden war das Material eine thixotrope Flüssigkeit. Der Entspannungsprozeß setzte sich für etwa 5 Tage fort. Nach dieser Zeit war das Produkt viskoser als Wasser, aber es war gießbar.
- Es wurde eine Stammdispersion mit 20 lb/bbl Natriumbentonit (von Baroid unter dem Markennamen Aquagel bezogen) hergestellt und ungestört für 24 Stunden stehengelassen. Aus der Stammdispersion wurden dann mehrere Dispersionen hergestellt. Jede enthielt 5 lb/bbl Bentonit und die Menge des oben beschriebenen MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3 wurde von 0,1 lb/bbl bis 1,0 lb/bbl variiert. Die folgende Tabelle I listet den Fließpunkt, die plastische Viskosität und die Gelfestigkeiten bei 10 sec und 10 min für alle Zusammensetzungen auf, wobei die Messung unter Verwendung eines Fann-Viskometers erfolgte. - Eine Probe von ultrareinem Natriumbentonit (von Baroid unter dem Markennamen Aquagel Gold Seal bezogen) wurde in entionisiertem Wasser dispergiert, um eine 10 lb/bbl Dispersion zu ergeben. Diese wurde für 24 Stunden stehengelassen. Es wurden zwei 350 ml Aliquots der Bentonit-Aufschlämmung hergestellt. Eine enthielt kein MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3 und die andere enthielt 1 lb/bbl des oben beschriebenen MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3. Es wurde auch eine 350 ml Probe hergestellt, die nur 1 lb/bbl MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3 und keinen Bentonit enthielt. Als nächstes wurden alle Proben in einer API-Filterpresse bei 100 psi filtriert. Die Filtrate wurden in sauer gewaschene Propylenflaschen gegeben. Eine Probe des MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3 und das während des Experiments verwendete entionsierte Wasser wurden durch die Filterpresse filtriert. Nach Sammeln der Filtrate wurden die Lösungen mit einem Leeman Plasma Spektrometer auf 27 Elemente analysiert. Die einzigen in signifikanten Mengen auftretenden Elemente waren Na, Ca und Mg. Chlorid wurde durch eine spezifische Ionenelektrode analysiert und NH&sub4;&spplus; wurde colorimetrisch analysiert. Die Ergebnisse sind im folgenden in Tabelle II aufgelistet. - Aus dem obigen werden die folgenden Berechnungen gemacht:
- mÄq von überschüssigem Na&spplus; =/Na/-/NH&sub4;/-/Mg/=6,17-1,&sup6;³- 2,16=2,38.
- Anzahl von mÄq von Cl&supmin;-Ionen, die aus dem MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3 ausgetauscht wurden = 5,49-3,09=2,40 mÄq.
- Diese Daten weisen daraufhin, daß im wesentlichen äquivalente Mengen an Natrium- und Chloridionen freigesetzt werden, wenn die Reaktion eintritt.
- Für einen Fachmann auf diesem Gebiet ist ersichtlich, daß von den gemäß vorliegender Erfindung gebildeten Addukten erwartet wird, daß sie zugehöriges Hydratationswasser aufweisen, sofern dieses nicht durch eine erhöhte Temperatur von im allgemeinen mehr als 100ºC ausgetrieben wird. Somit ist in Formel (I) und ihren Tonaddukten qH&sub2;O das Hydratationswasser, worin q von 0 bis etwa 6 ist.
Claims (21)
1. Addukt von mindestens einem Mineralton mit mindestens einem
kristallinen schichtförmigen Mischmetallhydroxid entsprechend
der empirischen Formel:

worin
D divalente Metallionen bedeutet,
d von 0 bis 4 ist,
T trivalente Metallionen bedeutet,
A von OH&supmin; verschiedene Anionen bedeutet,
m von 0 bis 1 ist,
(m+d) großer als 0 ist,
a die Zahl von Ionen A ist,
n die Valenz von A ist,
na von 0 bis -3 ist,
q von 0 bis 6 ist und
(m+2d+3+na) großer oder gleich 3 ist.
2. Addukt nach Anspruch 1, worin die Mischmetallhydroxid-
Kristalle im wesentlichen eine Monoschicht mit einer Schicht von
Mischmetallhydroxid pro Einheitszelle sind.
3. Addukt nach Anspruch 2, worin die Mischmetallhydroxid-
Monoschicht durch eine unverzögerte Copräzipitation hergestellt
wurde, die aus einem innigen scherungsfreien Mischen von
wasserlöslichen Metallverbindungen und einer alkalischen Quelle
von Hydroxylionen resultiert.
4. Addukt nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin m im
Bereich von 0,5 bis 0,75 ist.
5. Addukt nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin d im
Bereich von 1 bis 3 ist.
6. Addukt nach Anspruch 5, worin d etwa 1 ist.
7. Addukt nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin D Mg,
Ca, Ba, Sr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu und/oder Zn ist.
8. Addukt nach Anspruch 7, worin D Mg und/oder Ca ist.
9. Addukt nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin T Al,
Ga, Cr und/oder Fe ist.
10. Addukt nach Anspruch 9, worin T Fe oder Al ist.
11. Addukt nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin A
mindestens ein monovalentes oder polyvalentes anorganisches oder
organisches Anion ist.
12. Addukt nach Anspruch 11, worin das A Halogenid, Sulfat,
Nitrat, Phosphat, Carbonat, Glycolat, Lignosulfat,
Polycarboxylat, Polyacrylat und/oder Natriumpolyacrylat ist.
13. Addukt nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin der
Mineralton Bentonit, Kaolinit, Halloysit, Smektit, Illit,
Montmorillonit, Saconit, Vermiculit, Chlorit, Attapulgit,
Sepiolit, Palygorskit und/oder Fuller-Erde ist.
14. Addukt nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin der
Mineralton mindestens einer aus den Klassen von amorphen Tonen
der Allophangruppe und den kristallinen Tonen des
2-Schichtentyps, 3-Schichtentyps, expandierenden Typs, nicht-expandierenden
Typs, langgestreckten Typs, regulären Mischschichtentyps und
Kettenstrukturtyps ist.
15. Addukt nach Anspruch 13, worin der Mineralton Bentonit ist.
16. Addukt nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin das
Gewichtsverhältnis von schichtförmigem Hydroxid/Ton im Bereich
von 0,02/1 bis 1/1 ist.
17. Addukt nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, worin das
schichtförmige Mischmetallhydroxid MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3 ist.
18. Verfahren zur Umsetzung eines Mineraltons mit einem
kristallinen schichtformigen Mischmetallhydroxid von Formel (I)
wie in einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 12 und 17 definiert, umfassend
die Umsetzung eines wäßrigen Gels oder einer Dispersion des
schichtförmigen Hydroxids mit einer wäßrigen Dispersion des Tons
durch inniges Vermischen, wobei Metallionen aus dem Ton und
Anionen aus dem schichtförmigen Hydroxid durch Ionenaustausch
von Anionen des Tons gegen Anionen des schichtförmigen Hydroxids
in wäßrige Lösung gehen und wobei ein Addukt des schichtförmigen
Mischmetallhydroxids und des Tons gebildet wird.
19. Verfahren nach Anspruch 18, worin das schichtförmige
Mischmetallhydroxid MgAl(OH)4,7Cl0,3 ist und der Ton Bentonit
ist.
20. Verwendung eines Addukts nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 17
als Verdickungsmittel für Wasser und andere hydrophile Fluids.
21. Wäßriges Bohrfluid, umfassend ein Addukt nach einem der
Ansprüche 1 bis 17.
