Abstract

A chair with a self-supporting seat (6) secured to its legs (3), having slots (8) in its underside running towards the legs (3) at the securing points and opposite slots (10) in the longitudinal direction of the legs which are flush with the slots (8) in the seat (6); corner pieces (9) are adhesively secured in the opposite slots to provide a stable bond between the seat (6) and the legs (3). At each securing point, the seat (6) has a slot (8) running generally diagonally to a single one of the securing points, said slot extending in its transverse direction substantially over the thickness of the seat; at each securing point a single corner-piece (9) is inserted edgewise in the manner of sheet steel in such a way that each corner-piece (9) fills the slot made in the seat and the leg in the longitudinal direction of its shank concerned to the extent of 2 to 3 times the thickness of the seat and laterally completely fills it so that the shanks of the corner-piece do not project beyond the underside of the seat and the corresponding inner side of the leg.
