Abstract

A transparent substrate, especially of glass, has a silicon-containing aluminium-doped zinc oxide layer located directly below an IR reflective silver layer of its low emissive or solar control multilayer coating which includes lower and upper semiconductor or metal compound dielectric anti-reflective layers, the silver layer and a blocking layer of metal, alloy or their sub-stoichiometric oxide located directly on the silver layer. Preferably, the ZnO layer has an Al:Si ratio of 12-1:1, especially 3.0-1.8:1. Also claimed is production of the above substrate, in which the Al- and Si-doped ZnO layer is deposited by reactive cathodic sputtering from a target of zinc alloy containing 0.3-8 (preferably 1.2) wt.% Al and 0.05-1 (preferably 0.1) wt.% Si.
