Abstract
1. Stench rising up through the drain grating, solidification of the sediment and freezing up are the main disadvantages of conventional collecting drains. These problems are largely eliminated by equipping the drains with a watertight sediment collecting bag, which in addition to collecting sediment also functions as a stench trap. The bag 2c is sunk into the drain 2a and a flange 3 is pressed through the bag in the drain. A frame with a throat opening 4 is then sunk down into the bag until the frame rests on a shoulder in the drain, whereupon the bag opening is folded in over and down through the frame and the throat opening well below the water level in the drain. An effective stench trap is now established. 2. The same drain will also be capable of functioning as an oil separator by enclosing the drain gully with an open pipe 8a standing on the bottom of the bag and projecting above the water level in the drain. Oil and other lighter liquids in the water, which are washed down into the drain, will now be collected at the top of the pipe, whilst the water will flow through openings 8c in the bottom of the pipe and out into the drain outlet. <IMAGE>
