En sent modnet bladrig bestand, sekundære skud og ukrudt er de faktorer, som mest vanskeliggør mejetærskning af ært, hestebønne, vårrybs og vårraps. Følgen er ofte store kvantitative og især kvalitative afgrødetab. Der findes kemiske 5 midler til at dræbe løv, som samtidig også kan bekæmpe ukrudt. Sådanne midler er blandt andet organiske nitrogenholdige for- · bindeiser, såsom paraquat og diquat samt også organiske phos-phorsyrederivater. Af disse forbindelser bliver dog giftige rester tilbage i afgrøden, hvorfor man ikke har kunnet god-10 kende dem til anvendelse. Blandt uorganiske forbindelser kan man anvende blandt andet mineralsyrer, såsom svovlsyre (Freyer, J., Makepeace, R., Weed Control handbook II Recommendation 6, udgave Bartholomew Press, England 1970, side 37). Svovlsyren, som er en stærk syre, ætser sprøjten og er skade-15 lig for markerne. Fra beskrivelsen til dansk patent nr. 50156 kendes et ukrudtdræbende middel, som indeholder mellem 4,8 og ikke væsentligt over 22 vægtprocent fri phosphorsyre. Dette middel tjener også til ødelæggelse af bakterier og snyltesvampe og anvendes på et tidligt stadium af en kornafgrødes vækst.
20 Når man til dræbning af løvet anvender 15-20% orthophosphor-syre, opnås i forhold til de nævnte midler bedre resultater, men løvet dræbes langsommere, hvorved der når at blive eftermod-ning. Når man sprøjter nævnte opløsning 1 til 2 uger før mejetærskningen i en mængde på 400 1 pr. hektar, får man større og 25 kvalitativt bedre høst end ved sædvanlig mejetærskning. Under meget vanskelige høstforhold kan allerede kasseret afgrøde på denne måde reddes. Til opløsningen bør der sættes ca. 0,25% af et overfladespændingsnedsættende middel.
Fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen er derfor ejendommelig ved, 30 at plantebestanden, som skal mejetærskes, 1-2 uger før mejetærskningen sprøjtes med ca. 400 1/ha af en 15-20%'ig opløsning af orthophosphorsyre indeholdende ca. 0,25% overfladespændingssænkende befugtningsmiddel.
