Description

Claims 1. A process for the production of MMV fibres comprising providing a charge of mineral material, melting the mineral material to form a mineral melt and forming the melt into fibres, characterised in that the mineral charge comprises briquettes which contain paper sludge. 2. A process according to claim 1 in which the mineral material is melted in a shaft furnace, preferably a cupola furnace. 3 . A process according to claim 1 or claim 2 in which the paper sludge comprises 50 to 90% water. 4. A process according to any preceding claim in which the paper sludge has a solids content which is 20 to 45% calcium carbonate, 20 to 45% kaolin and 20 to 45% cellulosic fibre, each based on total solids. 5. A briquette comprising at least 5%, by weight of the briquette, of paper sludge. 6. A method for the production of a briquette comprising providing a mixture of particulate mineral solids, paper sludge and binder and forming the mixture into briquettes.
