Abstract

A reagent for quantitatively determining a viral DNA or RNA, for example derived from hepatitis B virus, consists of a previously ascertained concentration of a phage which contains a DNA sample, together with proteins, which can be hybridized with the viral DNA. The process is carried out by the reagent being brought into contact with the sample, which contains the viral DNA to be analysed, under conditions which permit hybridization and by the quantity of hybrid formed being compared with a predetermined nomogram for the purpose of finally determining the content of viral DNA in the sample.
