Abstract

Un montaje y un método para reducir los óxidos de nitrógeno, monóxido de carbono e hidrocarburos en los gases de escape de los motores de combustión interna, en donde los gases de escape actúan en un convertidor catalítico de la primera etapa. Una primera porción de la salida del convertidor catalít±co de la primera etapa se enfría y una segunda porción de la salida del convertidor catalítico no se enfría. Los gases de escape enfriados y no enfriados son unificados y dirigidos a un convertidor catalítico de la segunda etapa. Se inyecta aire en uno seleccionado de (1) los gases de escape no enfriados antes de la unión de los mismos con los gases de escape enfriados, y (2) los gases de escape enfriados y no enfriados combinados, después de la unión de los mismos.
