Métodos y aparatos para implementar un sistema telefónico proporcionando una conexión local inalámbrica y una conexión de área amplia inalámbrica, en una implementación, un sistema telefónico incluye: una unidad terminal comprendiendo: una primer antena, un primer módem conectado a dicha primer antena, una segunda antena, un segundo módem conectado a dicha segunda antena, una interfaz moderna conectada a dicho primer módem y a dicho segundo módem; en donde dicho primer módem proporciona una primer interfaz aérea usando dicha primer antena para rango de comunicaciones corto, dicho segundo módem proporciona una segunda interfaz aérea usando dicha segunda antena, y dicha segunda interfaz aérea es diferente de dicha primer interfaz aérea.
