Abstract

Un método para suprimir la infestación biológica post-cosecha en las frutas tales como bananas, plátanos y piñas, es provisto. El método implica tratar las áreas de corte o separadas de la fruta por aplicar una composición que contiene: (a) un polímero sintético termoplástico que forma película en una cantidad efectiva para suprimir la enfermedad e infestación biológica de la fruta cuando se aplica y; (b) un portador de emulsión acuosa o aceite. La aplicación de estas composiciones de recubrimiento puede ser ejecutada por inmersión, extrusión, rociado o cepillado a temperatura ambiente o elevada dependiendo de la naturaleza del recubrimiento. Los recubrimientos resultantes reducen la exposición de la fruta a las esporas fúngicas, oxígeno, humedad y microorganismos, disminuye la ocurrencia del crecimiento fúngico, limita la infección e inhibe el crecimiento microbiano
