Abstract

Lubrication fluids suitable for cold rolling of steel are described, which comprise one or more organic carbonates of the general formula (I): where R and R1, which may be the same or different from each other, represent an alkyl, cycloalkyl radical or linear-branched or branched cycloalkyl-alkyl with 6 to 30 carbon atoms, optionally mixed, in sufficient quantity to confer to the compositions the lubricating power necessary for the particular application, with a mineral base oil. These lubricating fluids can be conveniently used in the cold rolling of any type of steel, either as whole oils, after the addition of a suitable quantity of emulsifying agents, or as oily concentrates for the formation of aqueous emulsions or microemulsions. In addition to possessing all the typical characteristics of the fluids used in the lamination industry, they are also capable of minimizing the formation of carbonaceous residues and deposits in the subsequent annealing process.
