Description

The subject of the invention is a mechanism which serves to remotely adjust a wheel, the tool of an apparatus used for fitting and removing an automobile tire, said wheel being fixed on a turntable, controlled by a motor. and animated by a rotational movement along said tool.

There is already known an apparatus used for fitting and removing an automobile tire (DE-A-2 416 668) consisting of a vertical column, of a horizontal arm which can move transversely in this column and in which it is placed an axially displaceable bar in height carrying at its lower part a tool to install to remove the tire. The wheel is fixed to a turntable under the aforementioned tool. In the column there is fixed a box in which the arm is freely mounted and can be fixed there by means of a fixing device controlled by a pneumatic device.

This device has the disadvantage that to adjust the tool to a desired distance from the wheel, both in a horizontal plane and in a vertical plane, in order to avoid friction between the wheel and the tool, it is necessary to move the horizontal arm in the column box, fix this arm and move the bar up in the arm. Various manipulations must therefore be carried out. Another disadvantage is that for each new operation, the tool must be moved aside and replaced in the working position.

Another apparatus is also known (BE-A-852387) comprising on the one hand a horizontal arm on which a carriage movable along this arm is mounted and in which a bar with tool is suspended, adjustable in height, and on the other hand, a single means making it possible to fix the carriage at the same time on the arm, to fix the bar in the carriage and to place the above-mentioned bar at a certain angle in order to place the tool in two directions at a predetermined distance from the wheel fixed.

Apart from the fact that such an apparatus is relatively complicated and of an expensive construction, it is still necessary to carry out various manipulations to move aside and return the tool to the working position with each new operation.

The object of the invention is to provide a relatively simple construction mechanism by means of which only a minimum of manipulation is necessary to place the tool at the desired distance from the wheel, both in a horizontal plane and in a plane. vertical, to avoid friction between the wheel and the tool.

In accordance with the main characteristic of the invention, the arm transversely displaceable in the vertical column, is mounted in slope towards the wheel and between the arm and the vertical column, there is provided a means of displacement and fixing allowing on the one hand completely free movement and progressive movement of the arm in a direction opposite to the wheel relative to the vertical column in order to adjust the distance between the wheel and the tool and on the other hand the blocking of the arm in the direction of the wheel relative to the vertical column.

Thanks to the mounting of the arm inclined towards the wheel and by means of relatively simple displacement and fixing, it is therefore possible to adjust the tool to the desired distance from the wheel, both in the horizontal plane and in the vertical plane, in performing a minimum of manipulations. It is also not necessary to adjust the device each time when it is necessary to successively install and remove several wheels and tires of the same dimensions.

  • la fig. 1 est une vue latérale du mécanisme monté sur un appareil utilisé pour poser et enlever un pneu d'automobile;
  • la fig. 2, une vue latérale agrandie du mécanisme au repos avec pièces partiellement coupées;
By way of example and without this having any limiting nature, a detailed description will be given below of a chosen embodiment of the mechanism, in accordance with the invention. This description refers to the attached drawings in which:
  • fig. 1 is a side view of the mechanism mounted on an apparatus used for fitting and removing an automobile tire;
  • fig. 2, an enlarged side view of the mechanism at rest with partially cut parts;
  • fig. 3, a view identical to that of FIG. 2 but in which the mechanism is in the working position.

In Figure 1, we see the frame 1, in which is housed a control mechanism of a rotary table 2 with claws 3 to fix and control the wheel 4 so as to rotate it. The device can be provided with a well-known device 5 for taking off the tire. A vertical column 6 is fixed on the frame 1. This vertical column 6 carries a box 7 at the upper part. In this box, it is mounted in slope towards the wheel, an axially displaceable arm 8, guided between two guide rollers 9 diagonally mounted and two tenons mounted diagonally. Thanks to this arrangement, the arm 8 can be rolled in the box 7 and is mounted at a fixed angle. The end of the arm 8 directed towards the wheel 4 is provided with a block 11 in which is vertically suspended a bar 12 with handle 13. This bar is adjustable in height and can, thanks to a locking means 14 with handle 15, be fixed in the block 11. Between the handle 13 and the block 11, a pressure spring 16 is placed, which balances the weight of the bar 12. The tool which is used to install and remove the tire from the wheel is fixed to the lower part of this bar 12. Part of this tool, the pressure roller 17 which is fixed on the support 18 of the bar 12, which pressure roller cooperates with the bead of the tire to be laid. Also forming part of this tool, the guide roller 19 which is used to guide the bead of the tire outside the circumference of the rim of the wheel during the fitting of the tire. At the rear there is mounted on the arm 8 a toothed freewheel 20 which can rotate freely in the direction of rotation of the needles of a watch but not in the opposite direction. This freewheel is mounted between two flanges 21-22 in the form of a disc. Via a pin 23, it is mounted on the box 7 the end of a toothed segment 24 which, by means of a handle 25 placed at the other end of said segment, can be engaged with the toothed freewheel 20. For safety reasons, the flanges 21-22 , also cover the part engaged with the toothed freewheel 20 of the toothed segment 24. The axis 23 of the toothed segment 24 consists of a bolt with nut and between the toothed segment and the nut there is provided a spring washer which exerts pressure on the toothed segment, so that the toothed segment can be placed and maintained in a desired position. To keep the arm 8 in balance, a counterweight 26 is placed in the vertical column 6 which, by means of a cable 27 passing over a cable roller 28, is fixed to a small block 29 of the arm 8 The cable 27 is housed in a groove 30, provided in the lower part of the arm 8. The toothed segment 24 is preferably provided with two stops which cooperate with fixed parts of the box 7 to limit the two extreme positions of this segment .

To put a tire on a wheel, the arm 8 is rolled backwards in the box 7, in such a way that the tool 17-19 which is used to install or remove the tire, is at a distance from the turntable 2 to fix the wheel (fig. 2). The toothed segment 24 is pivoted on its axis 23 in the extreme forward position (fig. 2). A wheel 4 is placed between the claws 3 of the rotary table 2 and the wheel is fixed to this rotary table which may be of any type. A tire is then laid obliquely on the wheel in the well known manner. Then using the handle 13 of the bar 12, the arm 8 is rolled towards the wheel 4 and the bar 12 is released by the handle 15 to lower the tool 17-19, until the extreme upper edge of the wheel is in contact with the tool in the angle formed between the pressure roller 17 and its support 18. Then the bar is fixed by the handle 15. 12 in this position. By the oblique position of the arm 8, the slightest displacement of the latter in the direction opposite to the wheel automatically gives a clearance of the tool 17-19 both in the vertical plane and in the horizontal plane, relative to the wheel 4. To place the pressure roller 17 and the guide roller 19 at the desired distance from the wheel, so that there is no friction between the wheel 4 and the tool 17-19, we rotate around the axis 23 towards the freewheel 20, the toothed segment 24, this in such a way that these two members are engaged with each other. Continuing to rotate the toothed segment 24, the freewheel 20 rotates clockwise and the arm 8 moves and this until the tool 17-19 occupies, relative at the wheel, the desired position (fig. 3). By the fact that the toothed freewheel 20 cannot rotate in the opposite direction to that of the clockwise rotation, it is impossible to move, in this position, the arm 8 towards the wheel 4, while it is however possible that the arm 8 with the tool 17-19 can move away from the wheel 4 when for example the wheel is not completely round and that therefore the wheel exerts pressure on the tool . Likewise, the tool 17-19 can be removed entirely from the wheel 4 by rolling the arm 8 backwards, then bringing it back towards the wheel without having to start the adjustment again. When the bead of the tire is placed under the pressure roller 17 and all against the guide roller 19, the turntable 2 which firmly holds the wheel is started, so that the driven wheel is driven of rotation and that the tire is placed entirely on the wheel, this without the mounting tool or the removal tool coming into contact with the wheel.

It goes without saying, that the mounting of the pieces relative to each other, the shape and dimensions of the pieces described here may vary and that the pieces even here determined, can be replaced by others pursuing the same goal .
