- the invention relates to a method and a device for the production of tape rolls of narrow tape strips cut from a wide tape, in particular narrow film strips. It also relates to the tape rolls produced by this method or device.
- Tape material is often coated or otherwise treated in widths of up to one and a half meters and then cut into narrow tape strips, which in the case of narrow film strips are often not allowed to be wider than 16 mm. These strips of tape are then usually wound onto a roll core to make them easier to transport.
- the holes can either be circular or elliptical, or they can be elongated into slots. Now such a hole does not necessarily have to lie in the middle of the narrow strip of tape, but elongated slots can also be cut lengthways in the middle when the wide tape is cut open, so that slot halves are present as notches on the strip end concerned, which are covered by the adhesive tape. When pressed for the purpose of sticking, the glue points are then on both sides of the tape strip instead of in the middle.
- each punch hole preferably has the shape of a slot elongated in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the tape strip, the slot length preferably corresponding to the width of the tape strip, while the diameter of the punch hole transverse to the tape strip longitudinal axis preferably 1/4 is up to 3/4 of the strip width.
- the pressing means used can be those which can press on both the leading end of the strip on the roll core and the trailing end of the strip on the outer winding of the roll underneath. If two rows of holes are to be punched across the tape, this can be done in succession with a single rod, but it is preferred to use two punches at the same time in order to ensure a precise distance between the two rows of holes.
- the adhesive tape used here is preferably sufficiently wide to cover both rows of holes in the double row at the same time. If the tape obtained in this way is cut across the band width between the two rows of holes, the holes of one row are at the trailing end and those of the other row are at the leading end of the tape strips obtained during longitudinal cutting.
- the metal foil can also serve to activate the cutting device.
- the tapes of the wide tape may be serrated, wrinkled, or damaged in some other way before or during processing.
- the wide strip is cut into strips, the two outer strips on the right and left edges of the wide strip are treated as rejects delt. No holes need to be punched out in the area of these two strip strips.
- the method and apparatus according to the invention are particularly advantageous for the production of roll film material, e.g. used especially by narrow film rolls.

- FIG. 3 shows the leading end of a film strip 11 which has a punched hole 5b, which is covered by a short piece of adhesive tape 12. The middle area of this adhesive strip 12 is pushed into the hole 5b and glued to the roll core.
- the pressure roller 15 preferably has a foam rubber coating in order to achieve close contact between the pressure-sensitive inside of the piece of adhesive tape 12 and the surface of the core 13.
- a 1.45 m wide band of film material is cut into 89 usable narrow film strips, which are each individually wound onto driven roll cores 13.
