Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a new system for recovering the inner tube of borehole corers during rising drilling, as well as a new device for recovering the inner tube of corers which can be used for this purpose.
  • the new system according to the invention allows more particularly the recovery of the inner tube from so-called cable type corers, which can be slidable and locked in a train of outer tubes, during upward drilling, without the use of recovery overshot or cable.
  • the new device according to the invention is in turn specifically adapted to this new system for recovering the inner tube of core barrels in rising boreholes, while also being applicable for the recovery of the inner tube of core barrels of the cable type in approximately horizontal boreholes and in downholes.
  • Cable type boreholes are currently widely used in drilling of all kinds, whether downhole drilling for mining, petroleum or geothermal exploration, or horizontal or rising drilling in drilling work in underground mining.
  • This type of cable type corer involves a double tube probing head, the inner tube of which is lockable in the outer tube and can be unlocked and brought to the surface through the drill string outside using a cable, a spare called “overshot” and an auxiliary winch, while the outer rods, and the drill bit remain in the drilled hole.
  • the second drawback of known techniques is the presence of a cable in the majority of the devices used to date for recovering the inner tubes of corers of the type considered in rising drilling.
  • the object of the invention is to produce a new technique for recovering the inner tubes of core barrels in rising holes, which avoids the drawbacks of the previously known techniques.
  • the new system for recovering the inner core barrel provides to equip the inner tube train of the core barrel with a recovery head which can form a sealing piston in the outer tube, and use the force exerted on this recovery head by the release of the drilling liquid column at the bottom of the drill string for unlocking the blocking device of the inner tube barrel trainer with respect to the outer tube, and for recovering the inner tube train, thus avoiding the use of a cable and / or an overshot.
  • a particular embodiment of the new system according to the invention is characterized in that during drilling the recovery head leaves a passage for the circulation of the liquid drilling towards the drilling head, while when cutting the hydraulic pressure of the drilling fluid, the recovery head forms a piston in relation to the outer tube.
  • the recovery head may in particular comprise one or more peripheral seals so that, during drilling, as a result of the hydraulic pressure of the drilling liquid, the peripheral seal (s) is (are) held opposite one or more peripheral recesses in the bore of the external tube allowing the circulation of the drilling liquid towards the drilling head, while during the cutting of this hydraulic pressure the peripheral seal (s) enter into sealing relation with the bore of the outer tube, the release of the liquid column can thus generate on the recovery head, a force capable of unlocking the blocking device of the inner tube train.
  • the recovery head used in the present new system can very adequately be connected to the device for unlocking the inner tube by means of a sliding connection between an upper drilling position leaving a passage for the circulation of the drilling liquid towards the drilling head, and a lower position for recovering the inner tube forming a sealing piston with respect to the outer tube.
  • a particularly advantageous property of the new system according to the invention also lies in the possibility of using the recovery head itself for sending by hydraulic pressure the train of inner tubes to the drilling head.
  • the invention also aims to provide a new recovery head specifically adapted to the new system according to the invention.
  • This new recovery head of a drill core of the inner tube type which can be slidable and locked in a train of outer tubes, which can be unlocked under the effect of a pull, optionally includes: means for connection to the device for unlocking the inner tube train of the core barrel, and means of hydraulic sealing with respect to the external tube, while the connection means and the hydraulic sealing means collaborate with each other and / or with means of the external tube so as to allow, during an upward drilling, the circulation of the drilling fluid towards the drilling head and ensuring the hydraulic sealing of the recovery head with respect to the external tube, when the hydraulic pressure on the drilling fluid is cut off.
  • Such a recovery head has the considerable advantage of being able to be used interchangeably with said removable closure joint for recovering the inner tube of the core barrel without overshot or cable, in upward drilling; and without said removable sealing joint for recovering the inner tube of the core barrel in a conventional manner with overshot and cable, in approximately horizontal drilling or in downhole drilling.
  • the peripheral seal (s) with which the cylindrical body is provided may in particular consist of a removable ring surrounding the cylindrical body, the base tube being tapped so as to be screwed onto the cylindrical body while holding the ring in place against a peripheral stop of the cylindrical body, while the axial rod carrying the second sealing joint is provided with a stop cooperating with the 'base so as to be able to tighten the first removable sealing joint against the communication bore when the base tube is screwed onto the cylindrical body.
  • this auxiliary part may in particular consist of a removable tight seal in the closed position of the bore when the base tube is screwed onto the cylindrical body.
  • Figures 1 to 3 illustrate a first embodiment of the new system for recovering the inner tube of corers according to the invention.
  • the riser coring device used essentially consists of an inner tube train 2, slidable inside an outer tube train 1, and provided with a recovery head 3 according to a first mode of realization of the invention.
  • the entire core barrel 2 and the recovery head 3 are locked (FIGS. 1 and 2) in the outer tube train 1, by means of a locking device 4, hooking in a circumferential groove 3 1 of the tube outside by the lugs 32 of a lock 33, urged outwards by a spring 34.
  • This blocking device 4 is caused by a device 7, constituted by a tubular latch holder 35, integral with the inner tube, and an unlocking slide 36 which carries an unlocking pin 37 and which is slidable in the tubular lock holder 35.
  • the pin 37 thus releases the lugs 32 of the lock 33 from the locking groove 31.
  • the recovery head 3 is connected to this slide 36 by means of a sliding connection 8, formed by a pin 40 fixed to the slide 36 and inserted into an elongated recess 41 in the end of the head recovery 3.
  • This recovery head 3, in the version shown in Figures 1 to 3, consists of a cylindrical body 10, composed of two cylindrical elements 42 and 43, screwed to each other by wedging a ring 25 provided with peripheral seals 6 capable of forming a seal relative to the bore of the outer tube 1; the recovery head 3 can also be provided with a frustoconical hook 23, allowing for example the attachment of a recovery piece with cable, if necessary.
  • the recovery head 3 is held in this upper position as a result of the hydraulic pressure exerted by the drilling liquid sent under pressure to the drilling head.
  • peripheral seals 6 are thus held opposite a peripheral recess 5 in the bore of the outer tube 1, leaving a passage for the circulation of the drilling liquid.
  • the unlocking pin 37 thus acts on the latch 33 so as to release the tabs 32 from the groove 31, and to release the inner rod train 2; this inner rod train 2 will thus start a descent into the outer tube train 1 (cf. FIG. 3), due to its own weight and to the vacuum exerted by the column of drilling liquid.
  • FIGS. 4 and 5 illustrate a second embodiment of the new corer recovery system according to the invention, in rising drilling. The operation of the system is entirely similar to that described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3.
  • the recovery device used therein is different in that it is a mixed-use device that can be used both for the recovery of the core barrel without overshot or cable in rising drilling as for the recovery of the Corer in a conventional manner in horizontal or downhole drilling.
  • This device consists of a cylindrical body 10 and a tube 16 with base 17, screwed onto the cylindrical body by a thread 26, wedging a ring 25 provided with peripheral seals 6.
  • the cylindrical body 10 is connected to the unlocking slide 36 by a sliding connector 8 and is traversed by a communication bore 11 between its two ends 12, 13.
  • this communication bore 11 between the two ends 12, 13 of the cylindrical body located on either side of the peripheral seals 6, is closed at by means of a removable seal 14.
  • This removable seal 14 is held in place in the cavity 19 of the tube 16 at base 17 by an axial rod 20 which extends through this tube 16 with base 17, which presses with its end 22 against this removable seal 14 and which bears on the other side against the base 17 by a stop 28 of this axial rod.
  • the device therefore identically has the same function as the device described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3, that is to say that during drilling the drilling liquid can circulate by a peripheral recess in the bore of the outer tube 1 (FIG. 4), and when the hydraulic pressure on the drilling fluid is cut off, the device descends into the sealing position of the peripheral seals 6 with the bore of the outer tube (FIG. 5).
  • the new device according to the invention is used without the removable sealing joint 14 for the communication bore 11 in the cylindrical body 10.
  • the tube train inside 2 (the core barrel) is locked in the outside tube train by the locking device 4.
  • the recovery head 3 is however in the lower position of the sliding connector 8 relative to the unlocking device 7, due to the hydraulic pressure of the drilling liquid (and by its own weight recovery head).
  • the drilling liquid can therefore circulate towards the drilling head through the peripheral recess 5 in the bore of the outer tube.
  • an overshot 29 is lowered into the outer tube train 1, using a cable 30.
  • the gripping clamp 50 of the overshot grips on the frustoconical hook 23 of the recovery head.
  • the clamp 50 When a traction is then exerted on the cable 30, the clamp 50 will extend the axial rod 20 against the spring 24. The rod 20 will then come to press against the base 17 of the base tube 16, by its stop 28, and will therefore cause the recovery head 3 upwards, in the sealing position of the peripheral seals 6 relative to the bore of the outer tube 1.
  • the column of drilling liquid situated above the recovery head 3 and its peripheral seals d 'seal 6 can flow through openings 18 in the tube 16 with base 17 and the bore 11 in the cylindrical body 10, during the ascent of the inner rod train.
