  • the lower run of the chain can only vibrate if it picks up some of the hanging end of the forward run of the chain. When this drooping end is picked up, there is longitudinal vibration when running forward. With a long chain drive there is a relatively large amount of play due to the necessary looseness of the pins and links. Due to the guidance in the lower barrel, the vibration is therefore reduced and thus also in the upper barrel. However, this means that unwanted vibrations in the upper run of the conveyor are prevented.
  • the guide bars 110 and 116 also have a constriction for the chain and the underflow vibration is further reduced.
  • the final gear drive is provided with the reference symbol 38. It has a manual transmission 126 which is mounted on the bottom surface 128 of the machine and is connected to the main drive shaft 36 by a coupling 130. A gear 132 is mounted on the output shaft of the manual transmission. A drive gear 134 is keyed onto a common shaft 136 on which the lower deflection gear 100 is arranged. A chain 138 connects gear 134 with gear 132.
  • the continuous constraint on the feed conveyor return may be sufficient to solve the vibration problems.
  • the source of vibration is essentially in the feed conveyor or the oscillating linear movement in the stapling machine together with the corresponding drive. It has now surprisingly been found that this source of vibration can essentially be switched off by attaching a flywheel to the main drive shaft at the height of the starting point for the reciprocal drive mechanism.
  • FIG. 6 shows the arrangement of a flywheel 40 on the main drive shaft 36.
  • the flywheel also couples two sections of the main drive shaft to one another.
  • the right part of the shaft extends up to the gripper bar drive 22.
  • the shaft is supported in a bearing 140 which is fastened to a cantilever plate 142.
  • the left part of the drive shaft has first drive devices which take the shaft with it to drive the stapler heads.
  • the drive devices are provided in the form of a gear 144.
  • This part of the shaft is supported on a bearing 146 which is attached to an upstanding portion 148 of the stapler frame.
  • the weight of the flywheel was determined to be approximately 154 kg in order to significantly reduce the vibrations in the feed conveyor.
