Definitions

  • the invention relates to a damping device for buildings prone to earthquakes, in which a vibration isolator is arranged between the foundation and the building and is mounted in a housing consisting of an upper and lower part (e.g. GB-A-1336 472).
  • the invention has for its object to eliminate the disadvantages mentioned and to improve the damping device of the type mentioned so that the replacement of the vibration isolator can be omitted during the entire life of the building.
  • the characterizing features of claim 1 are provided. In this way it is achieved that the vibration isolator is normally not at all or only insignificantly loaded when an earthquake does not take place. Since the load is eliminated, the insulator does not age, so that it does not have to be replaced.
  • the invention surprisingly does not require the person skilled in the art to provide special devices for absorbing the wind forces for the purpose of ensuring stability.
  • tall buildings can now also be insulated laterally by the invention because, due to the firm connection between the foundation and the superstructure, there is normally no danger of tipping over.
  • the housing 1 shows the housing with an upper part 1 and a lower part 2, which are connected to one another in the vertical wall by the spacing wedges 12 a to 12 h.
  • the vibration isolator 3 is arranged between the plate-shaped parts 1 and 2, which is an air spring or a rubber spring.
  • a container 4 is visible in the middle, which is filled with a viscous liquid 5 and closed at the top by a membrane 6.
  • the damping rod 7 In the middle of the housing you can see the damping rod 7, the end extended into the upper container 4 is provided with a wing head 11.
  • the lower end of the rod 7 is provided with a closing head 10 and articulated in a lowermost part 2 a of the lower part 2.
  • a neoprene seal 8 is provided in the upper part 1 below the wing head 11.
  • the rod 7 is encased in the area of the head 10 by a neon bumper 9, which is housed in the lowermost housing part 2 a.
  • the spacer wedges 12 d on the left and 12 h on the right which normally transmit the force from the upper part 1 to the lower part 2. They are connected to each other by the side locking ring 13.
  • the two ends 13 a, 13 b of the ring 13 penetrate the groove roller 14 rotatably attached to a wedge, see FIG. 3, and are anchored by the fastening means 15 a, 15 b.
  • a lever 16 is movably connected to the armature 21 and engages in the aforementioned grooved roller 14 via a support 23 at the other end. Within this grooved roller you can see the two ends 13 a and 13 b of the ring 13.
  • FIG. 2 shows the top view of the device according to FIG. 1 in section. It can be seen here that a larger number of spacer wedges 12 a to 12 h are arranged between the upper and lower part. This cut is also passed through the side locking ring 13, which holds the wedges in place.
  • the vibration isolator 3 is known per se. known rubber bearing or air cushion bearing and does not have to be described in detail because of its popularity.
  • Fig. 3 shows the aforementioned grooved roller 14, in the two grooves above and below the two ends 13 a and 13 b the side locking ring 13 are fastened with the fasteners 15 a, 15 b. It can be seen that the side grooves are arranged above and below the axis 24 of the roller 14. Since the ring 13 is under tension, the grooved roller 14 is subjected to rotation to the left, which it is prevented from due to the engagement of the lever 16 in the recesses 25 of the roller. As soon as the end of the lever 16 in FIG. 3 is acted down by the electromagnet 17 via the lever 16, the grooved roller is released, so that the side locking ring 13 breaks at the predetermined breaking point 26, whereupon the wedges 12 a to 12 h slide outwards.
  • the second possibility of triggering is initiated by the self-triggering of the side locking ring 13 when the transmitted force exceeds a certain value.
  • This additional security measure is ensured by the predetermined breaking point 26, which practically represents a reduction in the ring cross section. In this way, the ring breaks suddenly at this point under a certain previously known magnitude of force. Such a force is known to occur as a result of the earthquake vibration.
  • the inclination 27 of the wedges 12 according to FIG. 1 is kept so large that self-locking cannot occur.
  • the upper part 1 presses the lower part 2 with all of the force of gravity, the insulator 3 being loaded and compressed, so that it is squeezed outwards between the housing parts in both directions. Since this load occurs abruptly, the damping rod 7 is also installed. Since this rests with its head 10 on the housing part 2 a below, the wing head 11 is pressed upwards into the viscous liquid 5.
  • the neoprene seal 8 it cannot escape, only via the membrane 6 is there a possibility that the liquid will give way a little.
  • further damping takes place via the lower head 10 by means of the neoprene bumper 9. In this way, the shock is absorbed until the isolator takes on the full resting load.
  • the effect of the vibration isolator 3 can e.g. can be adjusted by the oil pressure.
  • the closed space shown in FIG. 1 can be provided via a line 19 with a valve, not shown, which is a safety valve which only opens when a very high load is reached. This ensures that further yielding can only take place when a certain pressure is exceeded. In this way it is possible to dampen the shock as required.
  • a certain pressure can still be maintained in the room 3 from the outset, so that a considerable force against the impact is present from the outset.
  • the wedges 12 a to 12 h can be replaced by particularly brittle parts. They can be cube-shaped elements that break on a horizontal quake. Brittle materials which are suitable for this purpose are known to the person skilled in the art. Therefore, no further details need to be given in this regard.
  • damping devices are required to isolate a building. The number depends on the load-bearing capacity and the degree of insulation - can be calculated - a furnishing unit.
  • the damping devices are to be inserted into the joints between the foundation and the superstructure, so that the lower housing or the shim comes to rest on the foundation, while the upper housing 1 is fastened to the superstructure.
  • the ring 13 is dimensioned so that it directs the maximum resulting wind load to the foundation and suddenly gives way when this load is exceeded.
  • the self-trigger mechanism switches on.
  • the movement of the foundation creates inertial forces. When these forces reach a predetermined value, the ring 13 gives way.
  • the role of the damping rod 17 also consists in that the deflections of the building which occur during the earthquake are limited, so that the overturning of the superstructure is prevented and the vibrations are dampened by the dynamic friction forces which arise in the liquid.
  • the upper building When the earthquake is over, the upper building can be opened in a known manner, e.g. raised by means of an air cushion and the damping device can be repaired again without the vibration isolator 3 having to be replaced even under these circumstances.
  • the mentioned connecting element between the upper part (1) and the lower part (2) can contain an explosive chamber with an explosive. This is connected to an electrical detonator that can be triggered in the manner mentioned. It is an explosive with an electrical detonator, which is installed, for example, in a fastening element 15 a. By in this case, the closing of the circuit triggers the explosion, which destroys the fastening element and releases the ring 13. Systems of this type are known in principle, so that they do not have to be described in detail.
