Abstract
Textured polyester filament yarns are used for the production of coated abrasives, which are blow-jet textured and thermally stabilized and have loops and arches, at least some of which are freely protruding loops and arches. Yarns which have between 10 and 80 freely protruding loops and bows per running cm of yarn and of which a part are open to form freely protruding fiber ends are particularly suitable. Preferably, yarns are used which have been subjected to false twist texturing with a low number of turns before the blowing nozzle texturing. The freely protruding fiber ends can be formed by passing the blast-textured yarns over at least one turn, at least in one turn, before the stabilization, with loops and arches of the running bundle of threads being clamped and partially torn. Abrasives with a uniform and clean surface are obtained, which have a high level of adhesion between the backing and the abrasive grain and which, particularly in the fine grain area, are characterized by good usage properties.
Description
The invention relates to the use of textured yarns made from polyester filaments in the manufacture of coated abrasives.
Er entspricht der im englischen Sprachraum verwendeten Bezeichnung "coated abrasives".Coated abrasive is the common term used in the abrasive industry for the numerous products that consist of a flexible pad coated with abrasive grain. It corresponds to the term "coated abrasives" used in the English-speaking world.
Backed abrasives, the backing being made using polyester yarns, have long been known. For example, Canadian Patent No. 676,601 describes coated abrasives in which the pad consists of a fabric. The fabric can consist of yarns made from a wide variety of polymers. In addition to poly propylene and polyethylene also called polyester. Although the fabrics, as mentioned in this Canadian patent, can be made from filament yarns, polyester staple fibers are preferred for the construction of the yarns, since such fabrics are better able to absorb enough abrasive grain and for their sufficient adhesion in the base to care. When using yarns made of smooth polyester filament threads, one obtains relatively uniform underlays, but the adhesion of the grains in the underlayer leaves something to be desired. Efforts have therefore been made to change the structure of filament yarns to give them a more fiber-like character, in order to combine the advantages which the continuous yarns bring with the production of underlays with the advantages which yarns made from staple fibers have.
For example, DE-PS 3 218 441 mentions various types of filament yarns which can be used for the production of a base fabric which serves as a base. The yarns can consist of filaments which have a profiled, e.g. have triangular cross-section, there is also talk of fibers which have lateral extensions as spacers, without it being explained in more detail how these lateral extensions should be designed. There is also talk of crimped polyester filament yarns without specifying process conditions for how to perform the crimp. Example 1 speaks generally of a hot air process, without further details being given.
In Example 5 of this patent it is demonstrated in a comparative example that false-twist textured yarns have disadvantages for the production of underlays because number rich loops solidified with impregnating compound protrude from the surface, so that, as usual, abrasives produced lose the binder grain layer after a few minutes of grinding time.
It is therefore to have olyesterfilamentgarne, which can be used in the manufacture of coated abrasives position advantageously still a need on textured P so that it is possible to arrive at abrasives that have a smooth and clean surface and a long working life have that do not quickly lose their binder grain layer during grinding, which moreover also have a high level of adhesion between the base and the abrasive grain in the area of the fine grains and in which the base has a good absorption capacity for the binder.
It is therefore an object of the invention to enable the production of coated abrasives which do not have the disadvantages mentioned, but which are distinguished by the advantages listed above, by using particularly suitable textured polyester filament yarns.
Der Kochschrumpf der Filamentgarne ist vorzugsweise höchstens 0,5 bis 4 %.This object is solved by the use of textured polyester filament yarns in the manufacture of S chleif- agents on a backing, which is characterized in that the yarns are blasdüsentexturiert and thermally stabilized and have loops and arcs, of which at least ein.Teil freely outstanding loops and Arches are. The yarns used preferably have between 10 and 80 freely protruding loops and bows per running cm of yarn. The loops and bows can be partially opened to form freely protruding fiber ends. The hot air shrinkage of the yarn is preferably at most 6%, in particular at most 2%. The boiling shrinkage of the filament yarns is preferably at most 0.5 to 4%.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the use according to the invention, yarns are used which have been subjected to false twist texturing with a low number of turns before texturing the blow nozzle and which have been blown cold and fixed hot after the false twist texturing. Such yarns expediently have a total titer of 100 to 1200 dtex and have been subjected to false twist texturing at 1200 to 1800 revolutions / minute and have been subjected to fixation in the temperature range from 180 to 225 ° C. during the false twist texturing. Such yarns can advantageously be used to build up the fabric serving as a base untwisted or with a protective twist of 80 to 400 turns / meter.
In a further particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, yarns are used which are characterized in that the blast-textured yarns are guided in at least one turn in at least one turn prior to stabilization via one or more rollers which are rotatably mounted one behind the other in the course of the thread, so that the bundle of threads fed to the rollers does this covers at least of the rollers running fiber bundle in its edge region and thereby of the effluent F adenbündels clamps the projecting beyond the thread run loops and coils on the reel, forming free outstanding fiber ends. The rollers rotatably mounted one behind the other can have rough surfaces.
Woven underlays are very suitable for the abrasives in the context of the invention. It is also advantageous if the base is a pile fabric, in particular a sewn pile fabric.
It is very useful if the individual titer of the filament is about 0.5 to 2.5 dtex. The yarns used according to the invention can contain filament mixtures of different titers or different cross sections.
Blower-textured yarns made of polyester filaments, such as are used in the context of the invention, are produced by texturing by means of a texturing nozzle which works according to the air jet principle.
Devices with which such blower-textured yarns can be produced are e.g. in the journal Chemiefaser / Textil-Industrie, October 1975, pages 929 ff.
In the context of the invention, preference is given to using blown textured yarns made from polyester filaments which have been textured by the process described in DE-OS 27 49 867. The disclosure in this published specification is expressly referred to here. In this method, which is used to produce a crimped yarn from multifilament continuous fibers, in which the yarn is passed between a first and a second driven delivery unit through a texturing nozzle working according to the air jet principle, the peripheral speed V 2 of the second delivery unit being less than the peripheral speed V 1 of the first delivery plant and in which the yarn is wound up after texturing and heat treatment, the yarn becomes immediate after leaving the texturing zone in a stabilizing zone, subjected to a heat-free distortion which does not lead to elastic or plastic deformations and the yarn immediately after the stabilizing zone is subjected to a fixing zone with a shrinking and heat treatment up to 245 ° C. at a peripheral speed of the initial delivery unit of the fixing zone of V 4 <V 1 and the yarn is wound into a bobbin with a predetermined thread tension and a winding speed V 5 <V 1 .
The yarns textured according to the process described in DE-OS 27 49 867 have loops and arches which partially protrude beyond the thread periphery. As such, if they are appropriately stabilized, such yarns can be used in accordance with the invention. However, in order to make them particularly suitable in the context of the invention, these blower-textured threads are preferably guided at least in one turn by way of one or more rotatable rollers mounted one behind the other in the thread path. The bundle of threads fed in must cover the bundle running off the rolls at least in its edge area and clamp the loops and arches of the running bundle of thread protruding above the thread core on the roll; part of the loops and arches that are clamped are opened, i.e. torn.
The yarns treated in this way are then subjected to thermal stabilization.
For thermal stabilization, treatments in dry air, e.g. serve at temperatures of 180 to 220 ° C. It is also possible to use stabilization e.g. in saturated steam.
A corresponding thermal stabilization, as indicated in the previous paragraph, can also be applied to yarns textured with blower nozzles which have not been treated in accordance with DE-OS 27 49 867.
A process for the partial tearing of loops and sheets, in which the polyester filament threads are guided over rollers in the manner just described, is described in DE-OS 32 10 784. The disclosure in this published specification is expressly referred to here.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the polyester filament yarns are subjected to false twist texturing with a low number of turns before the blowing nozzle texturing. Here, low number of turns means a number of turns that is below the number of turns, as is usually used in false twist texturing. The most appropriate number of turns depends on the total titer of the yarn to be treated. For total titers from 10.0 to 1200 dtex, tours from 1200 to 1800 are preferred. In this embodiment, a temperature of 180 to 225 ° C. is preferably maintained in the fixing zone during false twist texturing.
The false twist textured yarns are then blown cold and then fixed in a manner as already mentioned above.
Underlay in the sense of the invention are fabrics such as nonwovens, woven fabrics, knitted fabrics and the like. to understand, which can be coated with conventional abrasive grains using appropriate adhesives and, if necessary, other conventional additives. The documents can be as sheets, strips, mats and the like. be opened. But you can also choose from a specially fabricated fabric, such as a disc or the like. consist.
When using the yarns in fabrics for the base in the production of abrasives, yarns of the same or different titer can be used in the warp and weft. In principle, the fabrics can be constructed in the usual weaves. The weight of the fabric can be, for example, 150 to 500 g / m 2 .
It is possible that the underlay consists of a single fabric, e.g. a tissue. However, two or more types of fabrics can also be used, e.g. Connect the fleece and the fabric together.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the yarns are used in documents in the form of a pile fabric. In general, pile fabric is to be understood as a textile fabric in which the yarns have elevations due to their processing, as is the case e.g. is the case with tufted material. These poles can be closed or open.
Suitable presentations of polar articles, which can be used as a base in the manufacture of abrasives and in which the yarns can be used according to the invention, are mentioned, for example, in German Utility Model, roll number 82 37 962.1 on page 4. The disclosure in this German utility model is expressly referred to here.
Sewn knitted documents or documents with a corresponding weft entry are very suitable. Malimo, Malipol and Maliwatt goods are expressly mentioned here.
The documents are characterized by a smooth surface, which is particularly noticeable in the finished abrasives in the form of flat surfaces, so that the abrasives have a long service life during use and do not have the disadvantages described above.
The use according to the invention on the one hand achieves the advantages which are otherwise generally achieved with fiber yarns, i.e. achieved with staple fiber yarns, on the other hand, a number of advantages that are only obtained with filament yarns are also achieved. Due to the special structure of the yarns, the base is very absorbent for the binder, so that the binder can also penetrate into the interior of the base, thus ensuring that grain adheres well to the base. The documents have the required mechanical properties, in particular strength, tear resistance, low reference elongation, especially for fabrics.
Particular advantages are achieved in terms of cleanliness and surface adhesion in the fine grain area. This means that abrasives are accessible for the various areas of application.
The abrasives, which are accessible through the use of yarns according to the invention, can be used for both wet and dry grinding.
