- the present invention relates to a method and a device for wrapping a load with a film of stretchable plastic.
- US Patent 4,589,091 already describes a method and a device in which the stretchable plastic film is subjected, before its use, to a pre-stretching by passing it successively through two pairs of rollers tangent to each other , the second pair of rollers, located downstream in the direction of travel of the film, being rotated at a peripheral speed greater than that of the rollers of the first pair located upstream.
- the film thus pre-stretched is then driven in the same direction as the load to be packaged, at a speed equal to that of the displacement of the load. It is also provided, in this patent, to weld and cut the film between two consecutive packed loads.
- Such a method has the disadvantage that the end of the film is trapped, after pre-stretching, by fingers or sealing bars, which means that the machine must be continuously supplied with loads or products, under penalty of continuously forming film strips, even if there is no product to be wrapped.
- the relationship between the perimeter of the product to be packaged and the quantity of film delivered is frozen, because the entrainment of the film is linked to the entrafnage of the product by mechanical connection, and the two entrainments are done at the same speed.
- the machine according to US Pat. No. 3,589,091 is therefore linked to a specific type of product.

- the invention also relates to an installation for wrapping a load with a plastic stretch film, comprising at least one reel of stretch film and at least one stretching device disposed between this reel and the load to be wrapped, characterized in that it comprises means for measuring, at each instant, the quantity of film used to constitute the envelope of the load, and means for comparing this quantity of film actually used with the quantity of pre-stretched film which is delivered, the output of these comparison means being connected to a device for controlling the supply of the drive motor or motors of each stretching device, so as to correct, as the operation progresses envelop the load, the quantity of pre-stretched film delivered, so that it remains equal to the quantity of film used to constitute the envelope of the load.

- the film 2 which moves at speed V, passes over a film accumulation device 11, of any known type, constituted for example by an articulated puppet, or else by a roller sets.
- the film 2 then passes over a deflection roller 12, of fixed position, from which it is deflected in the direction of the lateral surface of the load 1, on which it is applied at a speed of use V 2 .

- the two stretching devices 21, 22 are coupled together, so as to obtain, on each of the elementary films 18, 19, a identical stretching rate and identical speed of film flow rate. This coupling can be carried out either mechanically, electrically or hydraulically.
- the two elementary films also pass over respective upper 24 and lower 25 return rollers, and they are welded to each other, along a transverse weld bead 26, so as to form a vertical curtain. This welding is carried out by two welding jaws 27, 28, movable vertically.
- Each product to be packaged 29, being on a horizontal conveyor 31, is situated on one side of the film curtain which extends vertically, in this case to the left of this curtain, in FIG. 2.
- the products to be packaged for example, loads on a pallet are introduced horizontally into the vertical curtain formed by the two films 18, 19, by a mechanized pusher 32, at constant speed.
- the load to be packaged 29, on entering the film curtain, during its movement to the right, uses, for its packaging, a quantity of film defined by its own perimeter.
- On the other side of the film curtain is another horizontal conveyor 33, located in the same horizontal plane as the conveyor 31, and above which is located a holding presser 34 with vertical movement.
