Definitions
- the invention relates to a head protection for athletes from a one-piece molded part made of flexible elastic polyurethane integral foam with recesses for eyes, nose, mouth and ears, which encompasses the head on all sides up to the back of the head, and which is formed in the back of the head by two continuous, vertical longitudinal slots between them enclose a free bridge extending from the zenith of the head protection to the cervical vertebrae, separated and divided by a slot in the area of the chin cup.
- Such a head protection is known from EP-B1-0 013 304.
- the head protection described there which is likewise made of flexible elastic integral polyurethane foam, envelops the head in all particularly vulnerable areas and is easily adaptable to different head sizes without impairing the wearer's perception.
- a disadvantage of this head protection is, however, the formation of the shell halves protecting the lower face area, which almost completely cover the chin and are separated only in the area of the chin tip by a slot spanned by a Velcro strip. With different head sizes and in particular wider cheek areas, this results in a slot of different width, which is practical for a very narrow head.
- OMPI _fa WIPO ⁇ table can lead to the overlap of the two lower edges of the chin cups, but on the other hand can also be very wide, so that the inwardly bent lower corners then cause unfavorable pressure points.
- the head protection sits so close to the head that, when held tight, the wearer has an unfavorable feeling of pressure.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of providing a head protection which does not have these disadvantages and which enables easier adaptation to heads of different widths.
- the projections covering the zygomatic bones have reinforcements in the form of spherical caps on their inside.
- the inside of the head protection has material reinforcements in areas adjacent to all edges and recesses, such that the areas between them of lesser material thickness are spaced apart with the formation of air circulation channels run to the wearer's head. This means that only partial contact is achieved over narrow areas on the head, while large areas of the head surface are kept relieved of pressure.
- Fig. 1 a head protection in a perspective view obliquely from the front
- FIG. 2 shows a longitudinal section through the head protection with a view of an inner surface.
- the head protection consists of a molded part 1, which is foamed uniformly and as a whole, which according to a Model head is made to ensure a good fit.
- the helmet-like, thinner manufactured upper part 2 has four approximately triangular openings 3, 4, 5 and 6 and goes forward into the reinforced front part 7, the area 8 covering the temples below the eye opening 9 into the projections covering the zygomatic bones 10 and from there into the shell halves 11 protecting the lower facial area, which will be discussed in more detail below.
- two continuous longitudinal slots 14 and 15 running parallel to one another are provided in the back of the head in such a way that a free and elastic web 16, which extends from the center of the upper helmet-like upper part 2 and forms practically up to the neck, is formed ⁇ vertebral approach is sufficient and thus ensures elastic adaptation to the shape of the head as well as reliable protection of these occipital areas.
- the shell halves 11 protecting the lower face area from the projections 10 covering the cheekbone with their shell edges 12 laterally delimiting the mouth area from 20 - 30 run obliquely downwards and at least partially enclose the side chin areas with their lower lugs 13.
- the arrangement of the holding straps is of essential importance.
- two approximately vertically mutually lying and horizontally running slots 20 and 21 are provided, into which a self-adhesive Velcro fastener 22 is drawn.
- the one end of the belt 22 is expediently first introduced on one side from the outside in the upper slot 20, out again in unte ⁇ ren slot 21 and with the Klett ⁇ ribbon connected as a permanent • • locking.
- the long free end of the band 22 is then guided on the outside of the head protection below the chin to the other half of the shell, in the lower slot 21 from outside to inside and in the upper slot 20 from inside to outside and then back down again after corresponding tensioning of the two shell halves 11 with the band section running below the chin firmly connected by simply pressing on.
- the relatively large material thickness of the head protection in the adjacent region of the two shell halves 11 largely absorbs any blows that may occur through the protruding shell edges 12. This results in an external design of the head protection, which ensures an optimal fit and optimal shielding of endangered head areas.
- FIG. 2 shows a view of an inner surface of the head protection in a longitudinal section through the head protection in order to explain further measures for optimizing the fit and a pleasant wearing sensation.
- material reinforcements 25 and 26 the latter continuing on each side of the free web 16 to approximately its lower end at the cervical vertebrae.
- the oval recess 9 for the field of view above it is surrounded by a material reinforcement 27 which continues over the zygomatic region 10 and the lower half of the face shell 11 to the two slits 20 and 21.
- the projection 10 covering the zygomatic bone has on its inside a spherical cap-shaped reinforcement 28 in order to protect the protruding zygomatic bone separately.
- the opening 30 for the ear in the direction of the temple is provided with a material reinforcement 31 and to the chin area with a material reinforcement 32 which extends over the entire lower area to the back of the head.
