Definitions

  • Certain helmets in particular for example those of motorcyclists, comprise, a very thick cap occupying all the space delimited between the cap of the helmet and the skull of the wearer.
  • the lack or insufficient ventilation of such helmets makes their use impossible in many fields such as civil protection, the army, mountaineering, firefighters ... In such applications are used helmets "with headdresses suspended ”.
  • These helmets certainly have, for the most part, a cap of flexible material; but this cap is not very thick and allows that a space is always left free between itself and the cap of the helmet (see US-A-2,735,099). This cap only intervenes in fact in the event of a shock.
  • the cap must be secured to the cap and means must be provided so that the holding of the helmet on and around the head is effective. This result is obtained thanks to a headband and a support constituting an intermediate element between this band and the cap.
  • the object of the invention lies in the arrangement of this intermediate support, that is to say of the support for the headband.
  • the aforementioned rear part is advantageously constituted by a plate made of a flexible material which is equipped with fixing means inside the cap and is positioned in such a way that its three branches are directed downwards. Due to the fixing of the rear part of the cap on the two lateral branches of this plate, any impact exerted on the helmet tends to result in a relative displacement of the cap and the cap towards one of the other, which results in a traction of the cap on the two lateral branches of the rear part, thus leading to an increase in the pressure for pressing the neck cushions against the nape of the neck.
  • the cap is advantageously constituted by a mesh ending, at its two front and rear ends, with pieces of leather each extending by two legs, the two front legs comprising means of fixing in the cap, and the two rear legs extending by hook-and-loop tapes cooperating with the two lateral branches of the aforementioned rear part.
  • (1) denotes the cap of the helmet, this cap being able to be made of any material such as synthetic resin, metal, etc., and its shape being a function of the destination of the helmet.
  • a cap and a cap Inside the cap (1) are placed, as is known, a cap and a cap.
  • the cap is designated by (2); it is made of a relatively flexible molded material; and its thickness is small.
  • the cap is generally designated by (3). It consists of a first element (4) in the form of a strip, the length of which is less than the periphery of the inner zone of the cap (1) in which the cap is to be placed. This strip (4) must in fact extend only on the two lateral faces and on the front face of the cap (1). On its outer face are fixed elements of hook-and-loop tapes (5) and it carries buttons (6) which are six in number and are directed towards the outside.
  • the second component of the cap consists of a textile mesh (7) on the front and rear transverse edges of which are fixed two strips of leather respectively (8) and (9).
  • the front strip (8) is extended by two tabs (10) which, thanks to two orifices, are crossed by the two corresponding buttons (6) of the strip (4).
  • the rear part (9) itself extends by two tabs (12) carrying elements of hook-and-loop tapes (13).
  • the cap thus formed is fixed inside the cap (1) of the helmet.
  • the means of the first type are the buttons (6) which are profiled to be slidably mounted in pieces in the form of slides (14) fixed in the cap (1) and the upper end of which is closed.
  • the means of the second type are the two rear legs (12) of the mesh (17) which are fixed in the rear zone of the cap (1) of the helmet by means of an intermediate piece (15).
  • This part consists of a flexible material plate which is fixed in the cap (1) of the helmet by means of two buttons (16) cooperating in the same way as those (6) of the strip (4), with two slides (14) fixed in the cap (1).
  • This plate (15) is cut to form three branches, namely two lateral branches (17) and a central branch (18).
  • the two lateral branches (17) each have a slot (19) and receive, on their two faces, an element of hook-and-loop tape (21).
  • the central branch (18) it is extended by a ribbon (22) one of the faces of which carries a press-button element (23) capable of cooperating with a complementary element (24) carried by the central branch ( 18).
  • the helmet is, as is known per se, provided with a headband.
  • This strip generally designated by (25) is original by its arrangement and by its fixing means inside the helmet. It is constituted by a textile ribbon (26) closed on itself by two elements of complementary hook-and-loop tapes (27) thanks to which it is possible to adapt the dimensions of the band to the individual's head circumference; and this ribbon (26) carries several tabs (28), one of the faces of which is provided with a hook-and-loop ribbon element (29). Thanks to these studs (28), it is possible to fix and suspend the headband on the band (4) which is itself fixed inside the cap (1) by the buttons (6).
  • This fixing of the strip (26) on the strip (4) is obtained by the tabs (28) whose elements of self-gripping tapes (29) cooperate with those corresponding (5) of the strip (4).
  • the connection between the headband (25, 26) and this rear zone of the cap is obtained by means of the ribbon (22) which, extending the central branch (18) of the part (15), passes below the strip (25, 26) and is folded so that its snap button element (23) cooperates with that (24) of the branch (18).
  • the headband (25, 26) is therefore well supported, on the one hand, by the band (4) and, on the other hand, by the branch (18) of the part (15). There is therefore indeed an indirect connection between the headband (25) and the cap (1) of the helmet.
  • the part (15) integral with the cap (1) has the further feature of allowing, thanks to its two lateral branches (17), the fixing of two neck cushions (30) one of the faces of which carries a ribbon element. Velcro fastener cooperating with that (21) of the corresponding branch (17).
  • the arrangement which object of the invention provides a helmet whose comfort and safety are significantly improved compared to conventional helmets with suspended cap. This increase in comfort and safety comes from the fact that the neck cushions (30) more or less bear behind the neck of the user according to the conditions of use of the helmet.
  • the two cushions (30) exert only a very slight pressure against the neck.
  • the relative movement of movement of the cap relative to the cap leads to an angular movement of movement of the two branches (17) of the part (15) towards the interior, which results in that the pressure of support of the two cushions (30) against the neck is instantly increased and that the helmet is then better held around the skull of the user.
  • the arrows (31) and (32) in FIG. 4 respectively represent the instantaneous movements of movement of the cap respectively (1) and of the two neck cushions (30) when a shock is effected on the cap of the helmet in the direction of arrow (33). It is obvious that immediately after this shock, the various constituent elements of the helmet resume their original position.
  • the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this protective helmet which has been described above by way of example; on the contrary, it embraces all of the variant embodiments thereof, whatever the accessories with which the helmet may be provided; and thus in particular that the two lateral branches (17) of the support piece (15) can be used thanks to their elements of hook-and-loop tapes (21) to serve for fixing a neck flap (34).
