- Such contact jaws have so far been cast or welded in one or more parts and, if appropriate, have been made with a reinforcement made of stainless steel. Since the insulation layer arranged between the contact jaw and the electrode holder, which is intended to prevent the formation of secondary currents, has often led to damage, which necessitated frequent replacement of the insulating layer, it has already become known to remedy the disadvantage that the surfaces of the electrode holder lying opposite the contact jaw to be coated with an aluminum oxide coating. With this coating, however, the layer thickness has proven to be insufficient, so that neither a sufficient insulating effect nor a satisfactory service life of the insulating layer is achieved.
