- the C-shaped sliding guide element 15 is an aluminum extruded profile part with a web 15.1, the length of which corresponds to the outer distance of the slide rails 12. This is followed by the angled legs 15.2 and 15.3. C legs 15.4 and 15.5 are located at a distance from the web 15.1. The surfaces are all flat inside and not interrupted. The corners 15.6 are somewhat recessed so that no jamming can occur. Ribs 15.7 are formed on the outer surface. A free space 18 is formed between the C-legs and is clearly visible in FIG. 1.
- the U-shaped slide rails 12 are also made of aluminum of the same profile. They have an inner receiving space 20, delimited by three planar surfaces that are perpendicular to each other, by means of which they are snugly fitted onto the sides 11.1 and 11.2. Their corners 12.1 are also recessed inside to avoid jamming during assembly.
- the front outer surfaces 12.7 of the U-shaped slide rails 12 are flat and continuous and lie smoothly against the flat inner surfaces of the legs 15.2 and 15.3 of the C-shaped sliding guide element 15 with a slight sliding guide tolerance.
- the legs 12.2 of the U-shaped slide rails 12 which rest against the web 15.1 of the C-shaped sliding guide element are longer by a punching area 12.8 than the other legs 12.3 of the U-shaped slide rails 12, in such a way that when punching out on this leg 12.3 gets past the tool.

- approximately semicircular locking depressions 25 are punched out in the extended area 22 at a suitable distance and over a length that is necessary for the desired height adjustment.
- a locking lever 26 is articulated somewhat above the longitudinal center of the web 15.1 on the central perpendicular of the C-shaped sliding guide element 15 with the aid of a rivet 27 on this web. It has a downwardly projecting arm 26.1, on which a locking lug 26.2 in the form of the locking recesses 25 is formed so that it can engage in the locking recesses - as illustrated in FIG. 1.
- a connecting region 26.4 is stamped outward from the main plane of the latching lever 26 around the leg 12.2 of the U-shaped slide rail 12. It extends to a handle 29 which is attached to the locking lever 26. This in turn extends somewhat upwards into the area of the C-shaped sliding guide element 15. Between the handle 29 and the adjacent outer wall of the C-shaped sliding guide element 15, a compression spring 30 is clamped, against which the handle can be pressed inwards, so that the locking lever 26 is pivoted and its locking lug 26.2 is moved out of the respective locking recess 25. When this has happened, the entire sliding guide element 15 with the backrest attached to it can be pushed up and down with the same hand with which the handle 29 was pressed and brought into the corresponding desired height. When the handle 29 is released and, if necessary, the backrest is pushed slightly upwards or downwards, the locking lug 26.2 then enters a locking recess 25 again.
- an adjustment device for the step-by-step lockable height adjustment of backrests on work chairs is created, which can be easily operated with one hand and does not require a great deal of effort needed for this and still always allows a favorable support of the forces and a secure locking in the desired position.
