Definitions

  • the invention relates to a decal with a layer containing an adhesion-promoting substance and with a ceramic color decoration to be applied to a ceramic intermediate product.
  • Decals of this kind for ceramic overglaze decorations are usually connected to a backing paper by a layer of gum arabic and dextrin. Since these are water-soluble adhesives, the decal can be detached from the backing paper after immersion in water and attached to the ceramic intermediate product by means of the portion of these adhesives adhering to it. In the subsequent decorative firing, the organic components of the decal evaporate and evaporate without residue, and the ceramic color bodies sinter with the glaze.
  • connection is not sufficient for underglaze decorations. It does not lead to sufficient adhesion on the porous and rough bisque shards.
  • an adhesive which usually consists of water, a solvent for the organic print media and a water-soluble polymer as an adhesive, e.g. Acrylic acid or cellulose derivatives, and then brings the decal.
  • the spread adhesive fills the pore entrances and the depressions of the rough surface and creates a gapless connection between the body and the decal.
  • it dissolves the organic binder of the ceramic color bodies, so that the adhesive and the decal with the color bodies flow into one another and form an intimate connection.
  • the glue and the binder of the color bodies and also the paint mask disintegrate and evaporate.
  • the ceramic color bodies sink into the depressions on the rough and porous body surface and ultimately settle directly on it.
  • DE-A 2 031 825, FR-A 2 285 635 and DE-A 1 761 996 dry transfer agents are known which contain an adhesion-promoting substance in microcapsules which are used in pressure burst and release their content.
  • Capsules which are heat-destructible are known from US Pat. No. 3,317,433 in such a way that they contain a substance in the capsule filling and / or in the capsule wall which develops a gas in the heat.
  • the capsules are proposed for the encapsulation of evaporating solvents or oil fractions, of substances which react with ambient substances or which are perishable or which are otherwise protected against bacteria or the like. must be protected, from vitamin A oils and volatile synthetic oils, from adhesives, from fats, from medical preparations, from coloring agents, from soot, from iron oxide, from aspirin and much more.
  • the capsules should release fillings that then react with the surrounding substances, including solvents that activate adhesives.
  • the invention has for its object to provide the transfer of liability easier than before when applying decals with decors on ceramic intermediates.
  • the generally liquid, often also harmful, adhesion-promoting substance for the decorative decals remains a dry material of neutral behavior in the microcapsules until use. This results in various advantageous options for use, in particular mechanization.
  • the decal can be heated, for example, immediately before application by heat radiation or microwave pulses, or pressed onto a heated surface of the biscuit product.
  • a semipermeable capsule wall is required for an osmotic increase in the internal pressure.
  • the adhesion promoter is then watered before use.
  • microcapsules are dissolved by the adhesion-promoting substance at elevated temperature or that they are destroyed by an externally applied solvent.
  • Diameters between 40 and 60 ⁇ are considered to be a particularly suitable size of the microcapsules.
  • microcapsules as large as possible, for example up to 200 p., are appropriate.
  • the larger capsules are also easier to destroy.
  • larger microcapsules are more likely to lead to malfunctions, for example if their empty shell completely covers a pore or otherwise covers a surface section in front of the adhesion-promoting substance.
  • the microcapsules will consist of a material that decomposes on heating and volatilises without leaving any residue, e.g. an acrylate so that no disturbing residues remain.
  • the adhesion-promoting substance preferably contains a solvent for the organic binder of the ceramic color bodies, e.g. Trimethylbenzene or aliphatic hydrocarbons with residual aromatics or ketones.
  • a solvent for the organic binder of the ceramic color bodies e.g. Trimethylbenzene or aliphatic hydrocarbons with residual aromatics or ketones.
  • the adhesion-promoting substance can also be or have a crystalline adhesive.
  • the encapsulation also makes the handling of such substances easier, safer and, if necessary, more tolerable to the body.
  • the new adhesion promoter has the advantage of being independent of water, which the above-mentioned adhesive always contains. This opens up new possibilities for the selection of fabrics right down to the paint mask.
  • Such decals can be removed mechanically from their carrier material in a manner known per se and pressed onto the part to be decorated by means of a soft stamp, the burst or burst microcapsules releasing the adhesion-promoting substance, which in this way exactly in the required amount for the attachment of the decal on the bisque shard can be made available and this evenly distributed.
  • the drawing shows an embodiment of the invention.
  • a carrier paper 1 is provided with a meltable layer 2. On top of this there is a layer 3 of microcapsules 4 which contain an adhesion-promoting substance.
  • a decorative image is printed on layer 3 using the screen printing method; the printing layer is designated 5.
  • a paint mask 6 is applied over it.
  • the fusible layer 2 softens, and the layers 3, 5 and 6 held together by the resist mask 6 can be removed from the carrier paper 1 provided with the fusible layer 2.
