Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • a device is known from US-A-4 090 469.
  • a web of material is guided over part of the circumference of a roller, this roller being brought into a predetermined position via a swivel arm and a hydraulic cylinder.
  • the application device with its outlet opening and the application surface is brought into a certain position via a swivel arm and a hydraulic cylinder, the distance between the roller surface and the outlet opening being arbitrarily determined and thus also the thickness of the layer applied to the web.
  • application doctor blades both coating gap doctor blades and thin-coating or impregnating air doctor blades, are arranged rigidly (stationary); this also applies to the aforementioned US-A-4 090 469.
  • the profile shapes are different; in general, the doctor blade profiles are relatively narrow, this is because otherwise the application surface pressure would be too high.
  • coating and impregnating doctor blade devices have to be dimensioned very vigorously even with a relatively small width of the profile surface causing the application, and accordingly have to be dimensioned in terms of material and cost.
  • the coating or impregnating doctor blades are usually attached at both ends or stationary or in relation to the position of the web to be coated mounted precisely adjustable, whereby great stability against deflection or the possibility of correcting unavoidable deflection phenomena must be taken into account in the design.
  • an aqueous liquid substance is to be applied in an amount of 50 g / m 2 , this corresponds to a layer thickness of 5/100, ie five hundredths of a millimeter. If this application is to be carried out with an application accuracy of plus / minus 10%, this corresponds to the amount plus / minus 5 grams and the layer thickness plus / minus 5/1000 mm. Since the application widths are usually about 2 to 3 m and more in practice, the requirements for the stability and processing and setting accuracy of such devices are very high. Each application process creates or makes an application print dependent on various parameters. Since its size cannot be calculated in advance, almost every application process requires readjustments on the squeegee device. It is therefore obvious to keep the edges or surfaces of the doctor blade profiles that cause the application process and thus exposed to the application pressure as narrow as possible (the doctor blade knife commonly used in practice makes this clear).
  • the present invention excludes all of the aforementioned disadvantages and moreover has some advantages which are unknown or unthinkable according to the prior art, such as e.g. full security against the risk of bending at any working width and the automatic adjustment of the optimal gap thickness in accordance with the respective application conditions, whereby the surface pressure of the application device can be adjusted as required and can also be changed during the application process, without thereby reducing the straightness of the application device or the Application uniformity across the entire web width at risk.
  • the device according to the invention based on an area unit, works with a considerably lower application pressure than the previously known application doctor blades, but this application pressure, due to the large width of the effective application area or surface-parallel or approximately surface-parallel arrangement of the application surface and the surface to be applied results in a relatively high total application force which, due to the substance layer located between the two surfaces, causes an effect which can be referred to as "swimming"; the application area of the device according to the invention which brings about the application and uniformity effect can float freely on the area to be applied or, if the application device is arranged in a fixed position, the sheet-like material web pressed onto the device can float on the application area.
  • the device according to the invention makes it possible to handle a large number of different high-quality applications with the same device, only the setting parameters being changed, if need be.
  • the adjustability is mechanical effective application force, i.e. surface contact pressure of the application surface on the substance layer and through it acting on the material web to be applied, of particular importance, because in this way the depth of penetration in the case of impregnating applications and the uniformity of the layer to be applied and the intensity of the connection of the substance to be applied with coating applications the material surface can be controlled very effectively.
  • This control option is of great importance and has a positive effect, especially for applications with a combined effect, in which a certain amount of substance is pressed in to a certain depth and also a certain amount of substance is to be applied to the surface to coat it.
  • the possibility with the device according to the invention of being able to increase or change the working pressure of the application area, preferably with the device's own weight, during a running application process by means of magnetic technology, has a favorable effect on fine corrections for optimizing the respectively required application results.
  • the outlet opening of the device according to the invention does not necessarily have to be designed as a continuous outlet gap, but can also consist of closely adjoining or overlapping tubular, channel-shaped or slit-shaped outlet openings, bores or the like, especially in the case of low-viscosity application substances.
  • the risk of a strip-shaped application resulting from strip-shaped substance outlet is relatively low.
  • the possibility provided according to the invention of arranging the application surface at a slight inclination deviating from the parallelism of the surface and, seen in the direction of movement, of having a flat wedge gap tapering in the application process has a beneficial effect on applications on voluminous material for the gradual penetration of the substance under a gently acting surface pressure. If the application surface, which is inclined and forms a tapering wedge gap, is dimensioned very generously in length (viewed in the direction of movement), then a relatively thick or voluminous and relatively less absorbent material web can also be impregnated with full penetration.
  • the extension of the application area can also be understood as an extension of the exposure time of the application pressure caused by the application area.
  • Some material webs sometimes have thick spots or foreign body inclusions that stick to the conventional doctor blades that are set in a narrow gap or with pressure and can therefore cause web tears.
  • the wedge-shaped inclination of the application surface and also the contact surface which is optionally arranged in the area in front of the outlet slot and possibly forms a somewhat wider gap, has a risk-reducing effect.
  • the wedge gap which is open to the front, in particular the foremost part (contact surface), also has a favorable effect on applications on very thick or voluminous material.

  • This weight bar 12 can consist of magnetizable material, so that the contact force of the device 1, in particular the surface 11b, can additionally be increased by magnetic force caused by the magnet 13.
