- the present invention relates to an ignition coil in particular for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle of the type comprising a generally laminated magnetic circuit consisting of a central core and a magnetic flux return circuit and several windings, one primary or inductor, the other secondary or induced, if it is an ignition coil with one or more outputs.
- One of the terminals of the primary winding is connected to the direct current source of the motor vehicle, while the other is connected to mechanical or electronic switching means, such as, for example, breakers or transistors.
- the voltage variations caused by power cuts to the primary winding cause flux variations in the magnetic circuit, which themselves induce a voltage in the secondary winding.
- This secondary winding comprises a very high number of turns, which has the effect of obtaining in the secondary circuit a very high voltage, of the order of several thousand volts, making it possible to generate an electric arc at the electrodes of the spark plugs, igniting the oxidizing mixture contained in the cylinders of the engine block.

- the joint planes of the two magnetic flux return circuits 3 and 4 are on the neutral line 7 of the magnetic circuit, where the magnetic flux is zero. Consequently, the parasitic air gaps formed by the junction of the two circuits magnetic return flow 3 and 4 in no way affect the proper functioning of the magnetic circuit.
- indexing means 5 prevent the two branches 3 and 4 of the magnetic flux return circuit 2 from shifting one relative to the other, and, consequently, the air gap 6 would no longer be equal value in all its points. Indeed, the air gap 6 would have a different value between the central core 1 and the branch 3, and, between said central core 1 and the branch 4. This difference is in no way negligible compared to the value of the air gap 6 which is very weak.
- a primary coil consisting of a plastic coil 10 and a wire 11 wound on said plastic coil 10 is arranged around the central core 1.
- a secondary coil consists of a plastic coil 20 and a wire 21 wound around said plastic winding 20. The high voltage part of the winding 21 located near the end 20 a of the plastic winding 20, is held in lift around the primary winding 10.
- the secondary coil 21 must be at a sufficient space from all metallic masses in order to avoid the ignition of an electric arc which would lead to a partial or total destruction of the ignition coil, rendering it unusable.
- the secondary spool 20 is held in lift around the primary spool 10 by means of radial fingers 12 made integrally with the spool 10 and projecting with respect to the primary winding 11. These radial fingers 12 cooperate with latching means 13 formed on the secondary spool 20. These holding means are shown on a larger scale in FIG. 2.
- a metal part 8 is molded so as to conform to the external shape of said magnetic flux return circuit 2 and comprises, when molded in, cooling ribs 19, increasing the surface of the metal part 8 in contact with the air thus favoring better heat exchange with it.
- Fastening lugs 8 has integrally molded with said metal piece 8 is in contact with the metal support on which said ignition coil is fixed.
- a plastic casing 30 is molded onto said metal part 8 and onto the secondary coil, thus improving the aesthetics of the ignition coil by preventing the magnetic circuit 2 from oxidizing.

If the radial fingers 12 are placed on the edge formed by the faces 10 a (as shown in FIG. 4), the mold necessary for the manufacture of the plastic reel 10 will have only two drawers, which will allow manufacturing at lower cost.
- the cavities in which the radial fingers 12 are anchored are delimited by elastically deformable tongues 22 a and 22 b and are arranged opposite said radial fingers 12
- the wire constituting the secondary winding 21 is wound before assembly, around the bobbin 20, one end 27 of the secondary winding 21 being connected to the plug 17 of the primary connector 14, the other end 28 of the wire constituting the secondary winding 21, being connected to the secondary output 24 of the ignition coil, by welding to the base of the metal spindle 25.
- An appendix 23 forming an integral part of the secondary winding 20 serves as a support for fixing to the plastic chimney 26 of the secondary outlet 24.
- Said support 23 of the chimney 26, like the means for holding in lift of the secondary reel 20 on and around the primary reel 10 fulfill their functions of provisional holding before casting the synthetic resin 32 inside a housing 30 produced by molding of plastic material, the housing 30 in which is placed the magnetic circuit-windings. After hardening of the synthetic resin 32, all the elements constituting the ignition coil are joined and electrically isolated from each other.
