Definitions

  • the present invention concerns a gas mask.
  • gas masks comprise an inlet port, an outlet port and a speaking membrane which are separately disposed in a main supporting frame, while fastening devices can secure this main frame in front of the mouth and nose orifices.
  • a filter connection element is currently also provided, allowing to secure a filter in front of the inlet port.
  • the fastening devices may consist in a face mask which incorporates eye glasses or a panoramic sight glass and possible other accessories.
  • the inlet and outlet ports of such gas masks each is supplied with at least one check valve. Several other fittings are also foreseen in most of the cases.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a gas mask of the type which is meant to carry a filter which shows a construction which can be relatively easy be assembled and which offers the advantage that the filter after being mounted, does not disturb the person carrying the masks, in his movements.
  • a rotatable filter connection part has the advantage that the relatively heavy filter can be easily displaced from an inconvenient position by bringing it into another position.
  • this gas mask comprises a monolithic main frame and a filter connection part which can be rotated in all directions whereby the filter connection part is connected to the main frame by means of a ball joint.
  • a monolithic frame has the advantage that the gas masks are easy to manufacture and that their correct functioning can be easily checked.
  • the pivotable filter connection part is able to rotate in one plane.
  • the connection between the inlet and outlet part, on the one hand, and the filter connection part on the other hand, is achieved in this case by means of a pivotable elbow-shaped coupling part.
  • One end of this coupling part is always turned to the mouth of the gas mask user while the filter connection part is mounted on the other end.
  • the gas mask comprises a main frame 1 incorporating inlet and outlet ports (6, 7), fastening devices 2, in order to secure the main frame in front of the mouth and nose orifices and a filter connection part 3.
  • the fastening devices 2 are already known and may be composed for instance of a face mask which is equipped with eye glasses 4 or possibly with a panoramic sight glass 4A.
  • different kinds of filters 5 may be foreseen and are selected in accordance with the application involved.
  • the specific character of the invention consists in the fact that the main frame 1, as illustrated on Figures 2 to 4 is made of one single piece.
  • This monolithic element is provided with several inlet channels 6 and with an outlet orifice 7 which can be shut-off by means of a venting valve 8.
  • the inlet and outlet part 1 can be also equipped, for instance, with a speaking membrane 9.
  • This main frame 1 may, however, be also equipped with other accessories like a device for absorbing liquid food, a second speaking membrane for a telecommunication connection, a transpiration drainage system and so on.
  • a coupling device 10 is specially designed for movably mounting the filter connection part 3 on the main frame 1, as illustrated on Figures 1 to 4.
  • This device (10) is made, for instance, of a flexible air supply line 11 and of a ball joint 12.
  • the flexible air supply pipe is made preferably of bellows.
  • the first part 13 of the ball joint 12 is a part of the main frame 1.
  • the second part 14 which is, for instance, the ball is fastened on the end 15 of rod 16 whereby this rod 16 is supporting the filter connection part 3 on its opposite end 17.
  • clamping straps 18 to 20 must be also foreseen in order to secure, on the one hand, the flexible air supply pipe 11 and, on the other hand, the face mask on the main frame 1 and the filter connection part3. Moreover a sealing right 21 must also be mounted into the filter connection part 3.
  • the coupling devices 10 may also be made of a large ball joint having a central aperture. To this end this ball joint may have a hollow shape.
  • the ball of the ball joint may be, for instance, the continuation of the lowest end 22 of the main frame 1 while the casing of the ball joint is monolithic with the filter connection part 3.
  • the coupling device 10 may also be made of a cross-coupling.
  • the coupling device 10 consists of the flexible air supply pipe 11 only.
  • This flexible pipe is, indeed, strong enough in order that it keeps its last position in spite of the weight of the filter 5.
  • the Figures 5 and 6 are illustrating still another preferred embodiment of the invention with a very compact main frame 1.
  • the main frame 1 consists, in this case, of a casing 23.
  • the front side of the casing 23 is made of a double grid 24 whereby both grid parts 25 and 26 are designed in such a way that their respective grid apertures 27 and 28 are not overlapping each other.
  • the double grid 24 has the advantage that jets, for instance water jets, cannot penetrate into the inlet and outlet part and damage the speaking membrane 9.
  • the rear side of the casing 23 is made of the speaking membrane 9 and of a grid 29 located on the side of the user's face in order to protect the membrane 9.
  • the acoustic vibrations can be carried to the outside without difficulty.
  • the casing 23 is equipped with double-wall sides 30 which are made of respectively one inside wall 31 and one outside wall 32.
  • the intermediate space 33 is in connection with the inside of the gas mask.
  • an outlet aperture 7 is mounted and sealed by means of a venting valve 8.
  • the exhaled air can be evacuated this way through the venting valve, the inside of the casing 23 and the double grid 24.
  • the use of two inlet apertures has the advantage that the resistance opposed to respiration is reduced.
  • the pivotable filter connection part 3 of Figure 5 can be turned by 180 degrees in one plane.
  • the coupling device 10 is made of an elbow-shaped coupling part 34 rotatable around an axis A-A as well as an adequate seat 35.
  • the seat 35 is designed in such a way that a tight fit is achieved for the coupling part 34.
  • One end 36 of this coupling part 34 is oriented to the face of the mask users while the second end 37 is turned downwards and forms the filter connection part 3.
  • the seat 35 is preferably mounted under the casing 23 in orderto achieve a compact system.
  • an inlet valve 38 is mounted.
  • devices 39 are foreseen in order to permit the insertion of an auxiliary part 40 for food supply and evacuation of transpiration moisture.
  • the means 39 are, for instance, a support plate.
  • the casing 23, the seat 35 and the means 39 are preferably made of one single pressure cast part. This has the advantage that a strong assembly is achieved. Moreover one single opening must be foreseen in the mask because all fittings are located in the same monolithic element.
