Definitions

  • the present invention relates to improvements to drilling devices for branched wells or also called multidrain wells.
  • An elaborate technique of multidrain drilling consists of descending into the mother well of the deflection means, of fixing in situ the deflection means which generally comprise three deflection tubes arranged at 120 ° from one another, then selecting using connecting means one of the deflecting tubes from which it is desired to drill a drain or lateral branching.
  • Devices making it possible to implement such a technique are described in US Patents 4,396,075, 4,415,205 and in French Application No. 83 13 981.
  • any operation in the well or in one of the branched drains of the well requiring a displacement of the drill string involves also moving the selection means therefore all the organs which are integral with it. This is particularly so when changing the lining or the drilling tool which requires the withdrawal of the selection means, their separation from the drilling lining and then their replacement on the new drilling lining to descend into well.
  • the object of the present invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and to propose a device for drilling branched drains in which the drilling string is separated from the selection means, which also have a connection function in application FR 83 13981 (EP- A-0.136.935).
  • the present invention which is of the type comprising a device for drilling lateral drains from a cased mother well surmounted by a well head, said device comprising selection and connection means cooperating with fixed deflection means arranged in the mother well, is characterized in that the selection and connection means are mounted at the lower end of an extension formed by tubular elements joined to each other, and the upper end of which is integral with suspension means arranged in the well head, at least one sliding joint being interposed between two rods of the extension, the internal diameter of each of the rods elements of the extension being such that a drill string can be accommodated in said elements.
  • the present invention also makes it possible to obtain a better rise in the cuttings due to the reduction in the annular space following the use of an extension with an internal diameter slightly greater than that of the drill string.
  • the device according to the invention is intended to be lowered into a wellbore 1 which is shown diagrammatically, said well receiving suitable equipment and surmounted by a well head referenced in a way general by reference 2. Only the parts of the wellhead 2 included in the device according to the invention are shown partially in section in order to make clear the description which will be made later.
  • the device comprises selection and connection means 3 intended to cooperate with deflection means 4, shown diagrammatically, installed in a fixed manner in the well by any appropriate means, as indicated in the patents cited as being the prior art .
  • deflection means 4 shown diagrammatically, installed in a fixed manner in the well by any appropriate means, as indicated in the patents cited as being the prior art .
  • the structure of the deflection 4, selection and connection means 3 will not be described. We can usefully refer to the devices described in the prior art for all the construction details.
  • the selection and connection means 3 are mounted at the lower end of a tubular element 5, which element can be in one or more pieces as shown in FIG. 1.
  • the element 5 constitutes the lower part of an extension 50 consisting of a set of tubular elements; element 5 must give said extension a certain flexibility in bending in the vicinity of the selection and connection means 3, and thus facilitate the connection of the means 3 with the deflection means 4, for example when passing from a drain to a other.
  • the element 5 is connected to a first group of tubular elements 6a by means of a fitting of the appropriate type 7 in the event that the connections 5 and 6a are different.
  • the last upper element of a set of elements 6a when several of them are connected the to each other, is connected to another set of tubular elements 6b by means of a sliding joint 8 shown in detail in FIGS. 2 and 3.
  • the sliding joint 8 comprises an upper connector 9 provided with a thread 10 for assembly with a rod 6b, and a lower connector 11 provided with a thread 12 for assembly with a rod 6a.
  • the connector 9 is screwed by a part 9a inside one end of a tube 13 of diameter approximately equal to 24.5 cm, the other end of which is screwed on a part 14a of an intermediate connector 14 disposed between the tube 13 and the lower connector 11.
  • An inner tube 16 is housed in the tube 13, one end 16a being screwed into the lower connector 11 while the other end 16b is screwed into a piston 17.
  • the inner tube 16 comprises a guide key 18 which is capable of sliding in a corresponding groove formed in the intermediate connector 14, said key 18 being welded to the inner tube 16 by means of welding 19 ( Figure 3).
  • a guide key 18 which is capable of sliding in a corresponding groove formed in the intermediate connector 14, said key 18 being welded to the inner tube 16 by means of welding 19 ( Figure 3).
  • One or more orifices 20 are formed in the tube 13.
  • the piston 17 comprises a part 22 capable of sliding along the internal wall of the tube 13 and an annular rim 23 on which are arranged a support ring 24 and a sealing device 25 which is held in place by a ring 26 made integral with the piston 17 by means of screws 27.
  • the sliding seal 8 is shown in the closed state.
  • the lower connector 11 is displaced relative to the intermediate connector 14 which remains fixed since it is integral with the outer tube 13.
  • the movement to the left of the lower connector 11 causes the inner tube 16 and the piston 17 to move, the maximum displacement stroke is obtained when the free edge 17a of the piston 17 comes close to the end 14b of the part 14a of the intermediate connector 14.
  • Such a stroke of the piston 17 makes it possible to easily adjust the length of the extender to the distance existing between the wellhead 2 and the deflection means 4.
  • the set of elements 6b (FIG. 1) is extended by at least one tube 28 of internal diameter sufficient to allow the engagement of a square or hexagonal drive rod 61 of a drill string 60 while having sufficient clearance for the circulation of the mud, to limit the shocks between the square rod and the section 6b of the extender and reduce the incidence of a misalignment between the movable block and the rotation table.
  • a suspension olive 29 is mounted in a head 30 which is fixed to the upper end of a main casing 31, the head 30 resting on a flange 32 of a surface casing 33 by means of a support 34
  • the suspension olive 29 comprises an upper part 29a with a thread, a lower part 29b with a thread and an intermediate part 29c.
  • the upper part 29a is intended to receive a handling rod generally provided with a reduction in order to raise the surface of the whole olive 29-extension 50 and selection and connection means 3.
  • the tapping of the upper part 29a is protected by a net protector 35 provided with two J-shaped notches or any other quick reconnection system at its upper part to allow it to be put in place and picked up again.
  • the protective assembly of threads 35 and suspension olive 29 is held in place in the well head by needle screws 36.
  • Elements 5, 6a, 6b and 28 play the role of a usual extension called a riser by specialists.
  • connection means 3 When the selection and connection means 3 approach deflection means 4 to pass, for example, from one of the inlet orifices to another of the deflection means 4, the weight of the device is almost constant. When the connection means 3 are correctly in place, then there is a reduction in the measurable weight at the surface.
  • the positioning of the sliding joint at a given level in the extender makes it possible to avoid leaving too much of the extender part to work under compression and makes it possible to put a given weight on said connection means.
  • the tubular elements 5, 6a, 28 have an internal diameter of 12.7 cm, 16.85 cm, 17.8 cm respectively, while the tubes 13 and 16 have an equal internal diameter at 24.5cm and 17.8cm respectively.
