Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a printing process on polyamide and / or polyester fabrics.
It is known that it is difficult to use the conventional offset process for printing polyamide and / or polyester fabrics.
Cette difficulté provient notamment de ce que :
- lesdits tissus ne présentent pas, en général, une rigidité suffisante pour pouvoir être aisément manipulés et positionnés dans plusieurs machines offset ;
This difficulty stems in particular from the fact that:
- Said fabrics do not generally have sufficient rigidity to be able to be easily handled and positioned in several offset machines;
- said fabrics are not as absorbent - vis-à-vis the liquids used, such as inks and water - as paper.
When it is desired to print polyamide and / or polyester fabrics using offset-type processes, it is therefore appropriate to adapt offset techniques. This is the object of the present invention.
It will be immediately noted that the word impression used here must be taken in its most general sense; the aim is in fact to print lines, drawings, letters, colors, etc. on the fabric.
- utilisation, en photogravure d'une sélection couleur de trame 175, du procédé connu sous le nom de ''retrait de sous-couleur" qui nous permettra d'obtenir un ton d'une charge d'encre inférieure à 150 % avec la même définition ;
- utilisation d'une machine d'impression, dans lequel le tissu est pris et conduit en continu à travers toute la machine ;
- impression en une seule passe sur une seule machine ;
- utilisation de liquides d'impression - encre ou eau - contenant des accélérateurs de séchage ;
The various characteristics of the process according to the invention, characteristics which must be used in combination, are the following:
- use, in photogravure of a 175 screen color selection, of the process known as "under-color removal" which will allow us to obtain a tone with an ink charge of less than 150% with the same definition;
- use of a printing machine, in which the fabric is taken and driven continuously through the whole machine;
- printing in a single pass on a single machine;
- use of printing liquids - ink or water - containing drying accelerators;
- and, after printing, coating the printed surface of the fabric using the bonding of the varnish (polyvinyl chloride resin) on the textile mechanically.
The so-called "sub-color removal" process is used because this process allows the ink charge deposited on the fabric to be relatively small. This ink load is 150% lower in the Brunner scale, whereas it is normally 300 to 350% and more in the case of paper. Too large an ink charge would not allow sufficiently rapid drying and would not subsequently allow printing to be maintained over time even after the varnish has been deposited.
In addition, the fabric to be printed must, after having been carefully cut, squared and stripped of all its roughness, be maintained and driven throughout its passage through the printing machine. We will therefore use offset machines with this possibility, these machines having a particular sheet transport system with margin or suction and not with horizontal layers which would not allow a reliable transport, as are for example machines of the SPEEDMASTER type (of at HEIDELBERG).
It is also advisable, as mentioned, to avoid having to carry out the printing job in several successive machines, because this requires positioning and marking of the fabric, with each change of machines, which is difficult to do. We will therefore choose, depending on the goal, a two or four color machine, in which the printing will be done entirely in one pass.
Finally, as indicated, the printing liquids (ie water and inks) should be conditioned to have as short a drying time as possible; for this, products known to have this property will be used with respect to said liquids, such as drying accelerators for inks or siccatives for water.
The varnish used is of the type of varnishes used in screen printing; its purpose is to block the ink and to improve resistance to the sun, atmospheric agents and wear. The characteristics of these varnishes are known; note however that one will preferably choose a varnish whose viscosity is between about 15 and 20 poises and has a low shrinkage of the order of 1 per 1000; generally deposit a thickness of 8 to 12 microns of said varnish.
As an accessory means, it will be noted that it is advantageous to use a method of selecting colors (inks) of known type (by using for example a scanner), but by using a relatively fine screen which is preferably the screen having 175 lines of dots per inch.
The invention is illustrated by the following nonlimiting example.
Using a color document or a slide representing the pattern to be executed on the polyamide, we make a selection of Weft 175 (SCANNER DAINIPPON - SCREEN LASER) indented in sub-color, that is to say say a decrease in percentage value in films of blue, red and yellow from 15 to 25%, which will give us a maximum ink charge which will not exceed 150% of the surface to be printed for the composition of a tone with all the colors used in superposition.
The photogravure being made, we carry out our reports, that is to say 4 plates (1 plate per color), using our 4 color machine, type SPEEDMASTER brand HEIDELBERG (RFA), printing machine having a special type of sheet transport system (FABRIC); beforehand, our cutter cut and squared the NYLON FABRIC to avoid having serious incidents when passing through the machine. The format of the sheet is 65 cm by 92 cm. The inks used on machines are traditional inks, called fatty inks, but with the addition of a drying accelerator and a siccative in the fountain water.
The printing being finished, to fix the ink on the material, a film of a plastic-based varnish is deposited thereon, which hardens on drying by clinging to the plastic of the sheet and which is insoluble in water (the varnish used: urethane - acrylate).
The varnish is dried in an oven equipped with ULTRA-VIOLET lamps, the thickness of the varnish layer is approximately 10 microns.
