Abstract

A process for manufacturing a cigarette filter from a section of a transverse-axially compacted fibre strand is described, in which the fibre strand consists of randomly oriented individual fibres of PHB (polyhydroxybutyric acid) or of a copolymer of PHB and PHV (polyhydroxyvaleric acid). The fibres spun in a centrifuge device are combined as a fibre strand and fed to the format device of the cigarette filter machine. The invention also relates to a cigarette filter manufactured in this way and to the use of spun PHB or of a copolymer of PHB and PHV for cigarette filters. <IMAGE>
