- German patents DE 3439211A1, DE 3243778A1 and DE 3241869A1 describe as many devices for folding paper tissues and the like in machines based on the operating methodology mentioned above and which relate, more particularly, to the suction system of the air in the different folding cylinders. Substantially, they are hollow cylinders, with the active surface pierced at several points so as to be communicating with an internal suction chamber and from which the air is sucked through one or both of its ends. But this results in a non-uniform distribution of the pressure lines along the axial direction of the cylinders, mainly due to the pressure losses due to the large length of the cylinders themselves, so that the efficiency of the suction is progressively decreasing from the ends towards the center of the cylinders.

- the subdivision of the cylinder (2) into several segments (20), each of which provided with a main suction chamber (28) of reduced length to exert the action of retaining the paper on the active surface, makes it possible to obtain a uniform and correct distribution of pressure lines over the entire length of the cylinder axis (2). This makes it possible to make the treatment carried out by means of the folding cylinder (2) more efficient, and consequently to improve the quality of the finished product. Furthermore, this makes it possible to drastically reduce the pressure losses associated with the action of suction of the air inside the cylinder (2). What has been said applies analogously to the cylinder (3) and to the rollers (4) with regard to the subdivision of the suction action between the different suction chambers (33) distributed along their axes.
