Abstract

A cross-linked foam produced by two-stage vulcanization and foaming of a rubber compound comprising (A) a chlorinated ethylene-α-olefin copolymer rubber having a chlorine content of 20-40 wt. % and a Mooney viscosity (ML1-4 at 121 °C) of 10-190, (B) a triazinethiol as a vulcanizer, (C) an alkylammonium halide as a vulcanization accelerator, and (D) a hydrazide blowing agent in such a manner that the vulcanization temperature and time in the first stage are 120-140 °C and 5-10 minutes, respectively, while those in the second stage are 125-160 °C (at least 5 °C higher than that in the first stage) and 5-20 minutes, respectively, and that the expansion ratio is 3-10. The obtained foam can be colored brilliantly, is excellent in weather resistance, flexibility and shape retention, has a good appearance, and is most suitable for wet suits and the like.
