Definitions

  • the present invention relates to devices for infusions, hereinafter called “infusers”, which find application in the medical field for infusing patients.
  • These devices comprise a chamber with two first and second orifices, means for connecting the first orifice to a source of medical fluid, a tubing made of a relatively flexible material, and second means for connecting the second orifice and the tubing, the tubing comprising generally at its other end a catheter, needle or the like so that it can be connected, for example, to a vein of the patient.
  • Infusers of the type defined above which are currently on the market are not always satisfactory, since they do not make it possible to perform all the functions which may be required in the care units of hospitals, clinics and other establishments. These functions are for example: their positioning at an altitude higher than that where the patient is, the possibility of being moved over a certain distance at the same time as the patient to whom he is connected, the regulation of the flow of the fluid he contains, and the emission of an alarm when, for example, the chamber containing the fluid to be perfused is almost empty.
  • the object of the present invention is therefore to produce an infuser which has a compact structure which is relatively simple to produce, which makes it possible to perform the functions mentioned above and which is easy to use, in particular for nursing staff.
  • Figures 1 and 2 show a same embodiment of a fluid infuser 100 for medical treatment.
  • This infuser comprises a chamber 1 generally of cylindrical shape and advantageously of a transparent material allowing the observation of the fluid which it contains and making it possible to follow the evolution of the conditions under which the infusion takes place.
  • This chamber comprises at least two first 2 and second 3 orifices, first means 4 for connecting the first orifice 2 to a source 5 of the medical fluid, a tube 6 made of a relatively flexible and elastic material, and second means 7 for connecting the second orifice 3 at one end of the tubing.
  • the fluid source 5 generally consists of a bag or the like which contains a certain quantity of fluid necessary to ensure an infusion for a sufficiently long determined time.
  • This pocket also has a plug 19 made of a material allowing it to be perforated.
  • the first means 4 for connecting the chamber 1 to the source of fluid 5 may be constituted by a relatively rigid conduit 17 terminated by an open point 18 capable of perforating the plug 19 to penetrate the pocket, the other end 16 of this conduit 17 plunging into the chamber 1 to give a flow of the fluid of the drip type.
  • the second means 7 for connecting the second orifice 3 to one of the ends of the tubing 6 are generally simply constituted by a press fit on a sleeve bordering the orifice 3, as illustrated in FIG. 1.
  • the infuser comprises a support 8 consisting of an upright 9 and a base 10, the base comprising two first 11 and second 12 ends and being integral with the upright 9 by its first end 11 so that the upright and the base substantially form an "L", as illustrated in FIG. 1.
  • the angle between the upright and the base is, in the example illustrated, ninety degrees, but this value, although that certainly advantageous, is not necessarily necessary.
  • the upright advantageously has a shape which allows it to be easily associated, for example, with a foot comprising rollers such as those used in medical establishments for the transport of infusers when they are connected to a patient.
  • the infuser also includes means 13 for fixing the chamber 1 relative to the support 8.
  • These means are more particularly adapted so that the longitudinal axis 60 of the chamber is parallel to the upright 9 and advantageously substantially contained in the plane of symmetry of the amount 9 and base 10, and so that the second orifice 3 of the chamber is substantially above this base 10, the tube 6 passing substantially tangentially to the base 10.
  • These fixing means 13 are preferably constituted by a clamp 55 pinching simultaneously, between two jaws 56, 57, the chamber 1 and the upright 9, this clamp 55 can be made of a material which has a certain elasticity to allow this pinching.
  • the infuser also includes controllable means 14 for flattening the tubing 6 against the base 10 and varying the value of its section 15 in a determined manner in order to regulate the flow rate of the fluid flowing in this tubing, and therefore the flow rate of the infusion.
  • controllable means 14 for flattening the tube 6 against the base 10 include a tab 20 and means 21 for mounting the rotary tab on the base, the tube 6 then passing between the tab 20 and the base 10 .
  • Means for exerting an elastic force between the base 10 and the tab 20 to tend to increase the value of the angle 22 made by the tab 20 with the base 10 are provided in association with means 23 for controlling in a determined manner, against the elastic force, a decrease in the value of this angle 22.
  • the means 21 for mounting the rotary lug 20 on the base 10 are advantageously constituted by a deformable wall 24 secured to a end 25 of lug 20 and second end 12 of base 10 so that the base and the lug are normally substantially parallel and facing each other, being spaced apart by a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the tube 6 when it is not flattened.
  • This structure is advantageous because it makes it possible to produce the upright 9, the base 10, the deformable wall 24 and the lug 20 in a unitary piece, the base, the deformable wall and the lug substantially forming a "U" and the means for exerting the elastic force between the base and the tab being in this case constituted by the fact that the unitary part is made of a material having a certain resilience.
  • the means 23 for controlling the variation of the value of the angle 22 as defined above are constituted by a screw 30 comprising a threaded rod 31 and a head 32 secured to one end 33 of the threaded rod, the rod 31 passing through the one of the two elements, lug 20 and base 10, by a hole 34 with a diameter at least equal to the diameter of the rod 31 and cooperating with a hole 35 made in the other element 20 and tapped at the same screwing pitch than that of the threaded rod.
  • the tab 20 and the base 10 are moved closer or further apart by crushing the tube 6 or allowing it to resume its initial shape.
  • the tubing 6 is made of a flexible material but having a certain elasticity. Certain plastic materials well known to those skilled in the art have these characteristics.
  • the infuser comprises at least one receiving groove 41 for the tubing 6 produced in one of the two elements, tab 20 and base 10, so that it is perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the tab relative to the base and open at 42 in the space 43 defined between these two elements 10, 20.
  • the depth of this groove 41 is at most equal to twice the thickness of the wall of the tube 6 so that the tube can be completely crushed and therefore completely closed when the base and the tab are in contact with one another.
  • the perfusor according to the invention makes it possible to detect the instant when the level of the fluid 100 in the chamber 1 drops below a predetermined reference level.
  • the infuser includes means 50 for detecting the level 59 of the fluid 100 when it reaches the reference level.
  • These means 50 include a sensor 51 capable of delivering an output signal 52 when the level 59 of the fluid in the chamber 1 reaches the reference level.
  • the sensor 51 is arranged in a housing 53 made in the upright 9 and can be of different types, for example an optical fiber or a flexible blade switch in combination with a magnet mounted in a float arranged in the chamber 1, the following float the level 59 of the fluid and closing the flexible reed switch when it reaches the reference level.
  • the switch then closes a circuit, for example electrical, in which is mounted, for example, an audible, optical alarm, etc.
  • the infuser can operate whatever the embodiment of the bag constituting the source of fluid 5, that the chamber 1 comprises, for example substantially at the level of the first orifice 2, a vent 61 which can be closed or open, for example using a plug, depending on whether the bag is or is not provided with an opening allowing the fluid it contains to be exposed to the air, so that this fluid can '' to flow perfectly and completely.
  • the structure of the infuser according to the invention is perfectly compact and makes it possible to achieve all the aims which have been mentioned in the preamble.
