Definitions
- the invention relates to an electronic ballast for operating at least one discharge lamp in accordance with the preamble of claim 1.
- Faulty operating states of a discharge lamp can be found under Circumstances also considered to be the electronic ballast Operating device of the discharge lamp and its flawless Function endanger, but they can also easily only by the flickering or the failure of an igniter show discharge lamp that has become. It is therefore already known a variety of solutions that are intended a faulty operating state of a discharge lamp determine and take appropriate measures to ensure that this is canceled or at least harmful repercussions to the electronic operating the discharge lamp Ballast can be excluded.
- Discharge lamps also have a number of negative properties, some of which only develop on Make them more and more noticeable at the end of their lifespan. Also can have these negative properties depending on the type and type of Discharge lamp can be different. In the present Fall is particularly interested in the so-called rectifier effect.
- the so-called dynamic rectifier effect is visual by a strong flickering of the discharge lamp, in particular noticeable with low-frequency control gear. Characteristic for that is that the discharge lamp in a half wave the operating voltage at a relatively low Voltage value in sufficient number in the electrons Discharge space emitted. But during the other half-wave lamp lamp voltage rises much more before the breakthrough threshold is finally reached. But then the stored energy discharges like an avalanche. Connected is this process with a distinctly pulsating current through the discharge lamp.
- the shutdown device be designed so that they said the first Control signal then forms if one of the detected Peak-to-peak voltage proportional voltage than the second Control signal exceeds a predetermined threshold.
- a first aspect relates relate to the safe detection of the disturbance variable, which is used for shutdown lead of the electronic ballast.
- the peak-to-peak voltage is one high voltage; in relation to this is the change of this Voltage is relatively low with an asymmetry to be detected.
- a second aspect, incidentally, for each such monitoring circuit applies, can be derived directly from the above.
- a low input impedance the monitoring circuit means on the other hand a relatively high power loss of the electronic Ballast throughout the life the monitored discharge lamp is to be accepted and only to determine the end of this lifespan in good time.
- the present invention is therefore based on the object for an electronic ballast of the aforementioned Kind of a further embodiment of a circuit arrangement to monitor the end of life of the at least one discharge lamp operated by the ballast create with the simple inexpensive yet reliable, i.e. among others, both explained above Rectifier effects are detectable in order to Disable electronic ballast in good time regardless of this to what the critical operating condition attributable to the discharge lamp at the end of its service life is.
- the integrator forms a higher one Output signal that is dependent on a given Threshold value the shutdown device connected to the generator activated in order to then deactivate the generator in good time. It is advisable to do this in comparison to the period the operating alternating voltage long time constant of the integration element, to make these rectifier effects clear, but also to grasp safely.
- the solution according to the invention is Consideration to measure the disturbance directly not to be derived from a measurement signal, e.g. to filter out.
- Furthermore are causal with the dimensioning rule for the time constant of Integration link combines two advantages: Short-term, within fewer periods of operating AC voltage again decaying disturbances in the operating state of the monitored discharge lamp, which are not due to their aging are due to the integration behavior of the detector circuit eliminated. This property thus contributes to improvement the signal-to-noise ratio at. Further results in a large time constant of the integration element at the same time a high input impedance of the monitoring circuit, i.e. is the power loss caused by this low.
- the invention is between the output of the integrator and the input of the switch-off device, a level adjustment circuit provided one over the electronic Ballast supplied bias voltage source for generation a predetermined bias, that of the integrator emitted detection voltage is superimposed.
- the level adjustment circuit can also be designed as an impedance converter, so that their output signal then circuitry simple and therefore inexpensive to process with low resistance can be.
- the circuit arrangement shown in Figure 1 for operation of at least one discharge lamp FL comprises one per se known electronic ballast 1, which is why here is simplified and is only shown as an example, than it is for understanding one with this operating circuit cooperating monitoring circuit 2,3,4,5 required is.
- This electronic ballast 1 has one AC / DC converter 11 on the input side an AC voltage u ⁇ is connected and for example is designed as a rectifier bridge.
- One of the AC / DC converter 11 generated pulsating DC voltage is formed as an electrolytic capacitor Storage capacitor CS supplied, which is in the stationary Operation of the electronic ballast 1 on a smoothed DC voltage U + charges and a DC / AC converter 12 supplied.
- the supplied to the discharge lamps FL via the transformer TR Burning voltage is essentially with intact discharge lamps symmetrical. Non-negligible asymmetries this burning voltage or the burning current only occur then when at least one of the electronic Ballast 1 connected discharge lamps FL the end approaching their lifespan.
- the resulting rectifying effects have already been explained in detail above, so that repetition is not necessary here.
- the appearance this dynamic and / or static rectification effect is exploited to the impending end of life one of the connected to the electronic ballast 1 To be able to determine discharge lamp FL.
- a monitoring device 2, 3, 4, 5 is provided for this, that in Figure 1 also for the sake of clarity a block diagram is shown.
- the discharge lamps FL comprehensive load circuit of the operating circuit one of the filaments of the discharge lamps FL is attached to one common connection A, the other filaments of the discharge lamps FL are individually connected to individual connections W2, W3 or W4 led.
- Via these connections A or W2 to W4 of the discharge lamps FL is a parallel to a detector circuit integration element 2 connected to the discharge lamps FL, whose time constant is large in relation to the period the operating frequency of the electronic ballast is.
- this integrator preferably designed as an RC element in which an integration capacitor forms the storage element, its state of charge is negligible for so long is small as long as the connected discharge lamps FL are intact.
- the level of the memory element of the integration element 2 output signals thus taken is a measure of asymmetries in the operating state of the monitored discharge lamps FL.
- This output signal of the integration element 2 is called Detection signal UD supplied to a shutdown device 3 activate this as soon as there is a predetermined threshold exceeds.
- the shutdown device 3 is e.g. as one bistable switching device designed in the activated State to the electronic ballast 1 a control signal delivers, in order to deactivate this in turn.
- a The possibility of this is exemplified in the block diagram of FIG. 1 indicated. In this case the output signal is the shutdown device 3 of the base of a power transistor of the DC / AC converter 12 of the electronic Ballast 1 supplied to turn it off permanently.
- FIG 2 is a first embodiment of a monitoring device 2,3,4,5 shown in Figure 1.
- the integration link 2 is made up of three ohmic resistors R1, R2 and R3 formed, each via one of the connections W2, W3 or W4 connected to one of the discharge lamps FL and on the other hand in parallel via a common integration compensator C1 connected to the common lamp connection A. are.
- This circuit part thus forms the actual detector circuit.
- the ohmic resistors are R1, R2 and R3 trained high impedance and result in connection with one corresponding value of the integration capacitor C1 a Time constant of the integration element 2, the ratio to the operating frequency of the electronic ballast 1 in stationary burning state of the discharge lamps FL relatively high lies.
- the level adjustment circuit 4 is designed as an impedance converter are so that the high-resistance generated detection signal UD then easier to control in terms of circuitry with low impedance Circuit technology is further processable.
- a threshold value detector a diac D3 with a fixed breakdown voltage used.
- the auxiliary winding is used for this TR11 of the transformer TR used.
- this auxiliary winding TR11 is in the circuit diagram according to Figure 2 included.
- this includes Bias source one with the auxiliary winding TR11 in series lying resistor R4 and two antiparallel connected Zener diodes D1 and D2, which are parallel to the auxiliary winding TR11 and the connected resistor R4 are connected.
- the bias voltage source is immediate to connect to the integration capacitor C1 and offers also the possibility of adjusting the sensitivity of the level adjustment circuit adjust.
- the bias voltage source described TR11, R4, D1, D2 is between that at the connector A lying connection of the integration capacitor C1 of the integration element 2 and the trigger element of the level adjustment circuit 4, the Diac D3, arranged.
- the other connection of the Diac D3 is via a downstream rectifier, formed from diodes D4 to D7 and another Ohmic resistor R5, with the second connection of the integration capacitor C1 of the integrator 2 connected.
- the level adjustment circuit 4 implemented here adds up in principle a defined voltage value that the bias voltage source TR 11, R4, D1 and D2 delivers to that of charging of the integration capacitor C1 corresponding detection voltage UD of the integrator 2 regardless of their Polarity added.
- This monitoring circuit reacts as such at a predetermined trigger threshold of Diac D3 the more sensitive the higher the detection voltage UD is added bias.
- the Diac D3 breaks through and discharges the integration capacitor C1 of the integration element 2.
- a Generated current pulse with which the shutdown device 3 is activated becomes.
- Diac D3 is in the process of implementing the described Circuit arrangement especially with regard to to carefully specify its dynamic behavior. Of the reason for this lies in the type of level adjustment implemented of the detection signal UD supplied by the integration element 2 with the help of an AC voltage source. Diac D3 must be on respond sufficiently quickly to the sum signal thus formed, the operational safety of the monitoring circuit 2,3,4,5 to ensure.
- Such galvanic isolation between the output of the Integration element 2 or the one connected to it if necessary Level adjustment circuit 4 and the shutdown device 3 is not mandatory in all applications. Whether to provide such a galvanic isolation depends on the embodiment of the electronic itself Ballast 1 from. With an embodiment of the electronic Ballast 1 according to Figure 1 with a parallel resonance converter in connection with an output transformer, i.e. a DC-AC converter 12 and one Transformer TR according to FIG. 1 is such a galvanic one Separation, for example using the optocoupler 5 also required in the monitoring circuit 2,3,4,5. Indeed such a galvanic isolation would also be possible with a discrete optocoupler or, for example perform transformer so that the one shown in Figure 2 Implementation is just one example reproduces that are available to the expert for this.
- the optotriac V1 already functionally assigned to the shutdown device 3 and is used as a bistable flip-flop.
- the Supply voltage that this bistable multivibrator the holding current for the Optotriac V1, the shutdown device 3 via the connection U1 in the form of via the storage capacitor CS of the electronic ballast 1 DC voltage U + supplied via a voltage divider R9, R8, the Optotriac V1 is connected to its center tap is.
- the other connection of the Optotriac V1 is via a bleeder resistor R8 to the ground reference potential 13 of the electronic Ballast 1 placed.
- the Optotriac V1 As soon as the Optotriac V1, as explained above, over the activated pulse provided by the level adjustment circuit 4 and breaks through, also becomes the small signal transistor V2 conductive. Since this is on the collector side via the output C0 connected to the DC-AC converter 12 is, the latter is directly related to the ground reference potential 13 laid. In the example of Figure 1, this means that then the base of the low level power transistor the half-bridge arrangement assumed there is at ground reference potential 13, so that this power transistor locks permanently as long as this functional state continues.
- the circuit state described as a bistable multivibrator trained shutdown device 3 is above the holding current of the Optotriacs V1. Is reset the switch-off device only by blocking the Optotriacs V1 then when the AC mains voltage u ⁇ of the electronic ballast 1 is switched off and then the DC voltage U + on the storage capacitor CS of the electronic ballast breaks down by discharging this storage capacitor.
- the time delay with which the shutdown device 3 reacts to the failure of the AC mains voltage u ⁇ depends on the dimensioning of the storage capacitor CS of the electronic ballast 1 and Resistors in the shutdown device 3. In general a short interruption in the power supply to the electronic ballast 1 suffice.
- the further embodiment shown in Figure 3 for the monitoring circuit 2,3,4,5 corresponds to a large extent the embodiment described with reference to Figure 2.
- Matching circuit parts and circuit elements are therefore designated by the same reference numerals.
- the essential Difference from the embodiment described above consists in the design of the level adjustment circuit 4.
- At this Rectifier is symmetrically formed a storage network from the series connection of two further ohmic resistors R10 and R11 and two further capacitors C3 and C4 connected.
- the level adjustment circuit 4 is the auxiliary winding TR11 of the transformer TR, via which the bias voltage is again supplied via the connections B, C.
- auxiliary winding TR11 of the transformer TR in the level adjustment circuit 4 assigned rectifier network is related to that used as a threshold detector Diac D31 in series with that of the input stage of the level adjustment circuit 4 assigned rectifier and Storage network D10, D11 or C3, C4, R10, R11 and one Series resistor R14 of diac D31.
- the adaptation circuit is also used in this embodiment 4 according to FIG. 3 that of the integration element 2 supplied detection voltage UD and one for level adjustment used preload added together.
- the difference lies here in the fact that it is no longer an AC voltage component but a derived DC component acts.
- either capacitor C3 or alternatively the capacitor C4 is charged.
- the rectifier network assigned to the auxiliary winding TR11 D12, R12, D13 the capacitor C5 assigned to this network charged to a defined value.
- Diac D31 Level adjustment circuit 4 breaks through and builds the potentials of the charged ones in impulses Capacitors. Since the Diac D31 with the Optotriac V1 in this case is in series, the latter is caused by the current pulse also activated by Diac D31. Furthermore is the Optotriac V1 as in the case of FIG. 2 above described embodiment to the unchanged trained Switch-off device 3 connected. Hence result the same functional sequences with regard to switching off the electronic ballast 1, so that there is no need for repetitions.
- the level adjustment circuit 4 means that in in this case the dimensioning of the as a threshold detector Diacs D31 used in terms of its dynamic behavior is less critical because it is saved by potentials e.g. the capacitors C3, C5 is triggered. Indeed is to be taken into account with this circuit variant, that the diac 31, because the holding current is too low, after his Break through tilts back to the switched-off state. A further trigger is only possible as soon as the storage capacitors discharged by the current pulse of the diac C3 or C4 for the detection voltage or C5 for the preload with a predetermined time constant again have charged.
