Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for counting and view the points or scores of two-player sports games, or even two teams, in particular with balls or even balloons, or board game points or scores.
- the invention applies in particular, although not exclusively, to marking scores in tennis or similar sports (half-court, squash).
- Document FR A 2 637 508 discloses a device formed by a board equipped with a plurality of sliders which implies the presence of a umpire for maximum use and which otherwise presupposes a some dexterity to handle it.
- the document WO A 90/03021 describes a device display for games, especially for tennis, which is essentially formed a panel with two display lines where are arranged housings intended to receive sets of tilting cards bearing half characters, like station display panels or airports.
- this device includes a service selector which designate by lot the player who takes service; this element is a small diameter cylinder which fits into the thickness of the panel.
- This display device is intended to be arranged vertically, which requires in practical to have a wall to hang it or a metal frame on which to fix it; such a device is nevertheless likely to give grip to the wind which, therefore, could change the score without the players' knowledge.
- Magnetic boards have also been proposed, but it is not planned with these to memorize the points obtained during the various sleeves.
- the object of the invention is to overcome these drawbacks, which are found in many other sports activities.
- the invention provides a counting device and display of points or scores for sports games and board games, comprising a housing and, in this housing, a compact assembly comprising a series of wheels mounted on a common axle and adapted to be driven manually in a step-by-step rotation, each wheel bearing on its edge a series of information relating to possible scores intended to appear successively through a window in the housing, this section being accessible from the outside of the housing, preferably through this window.
- This information is in practice numbers, numbers, various letters or signs.
- This device also includes a draw wheel mounted mad on an axis and carrying on its edge a series of alternating symbols intended to appear successively through a window in the housing, this section being manually accessible from the outside of the housing, preferably in favor of this window.
- This axis can be that of the wheels provided with information (this allows a large overall compactness) or be parallel or perpendicular to the latter; he may nevertheless have a any orientation.
- the wheels are mounted on an axle common parallel to the length of the housing, around which they are entrained manually in a stepwise rotation for the wheels carrying a series of numbers, and in a single rotation for the wheel carrying a series of symbols.
- the edge of the wheels bearing a series of numbers or a series of symbols protruding from through the window and comes at least flush with the plane of said window.
- the wheel section can be subdivided in boxes that can each receive information (number, number, letter, sign) or a symbol.
- the wheels bearing a series of numbers are associated with smaller wheels rotating around the same axis and having on their periphery teeth, said teeth being in frictional contact with blades spring and thus ensuring the positioning of a figure through a window of the case relative to a lateral index.
- the wheels with teeth can be separate elements connected mechanically on wheels bearing numbers or even integral with said wheels to form a single block.
- the number of teeth of wheels with teeth correspond to an equal number or to a multiple of the number of boxes or numbers on the wheels provided for in this effect.
- the wheels bearing a series of numbers are the same color or colors different and contrasting; Likewise, the series of numbers are the same different or contrasting color or colors; each player or each team can be identified either by the color of the wheels or by the color numbers. The color of the wheels and the color of the numbers may be opposite. Wheels or series of numbers of the same color are grouped together or arranged alternately.
- the wheel bearing alternating symbols is mounted madly on the common axis in the last position and the rotation of said wheel is stopped by its own inertia. It may have a different color from the wheels bearing a series of numbers.
- the symbols are the same color or different color.
- a rotation to balls is interposed between the common axle and the wheel bearing symbols for facilitate the rotational training of the latter.
- the rotation of the wheel carrying symbols can be stopped prematurely by a means of braking slowing the rotation of said wheel until it stops, consisting a piston exerting a more or less strong pressure on the side of the wheel and manually operated.
- the wheels carrying a series of numbers or symbols are provided on their edges and in border of small lugs facilitating manual pushing exerted on said slice.
- the tranche of wheels carry raised information, whether numbers, numbers, letters, various signs or symbols, to allow more touch sure of the wheel and better rotation drive.
- the wheel carrying symbols is balanced, so that couples of forces equidistant act around the common axis and allow immobilization of the wheel according to the position of the symbols opposite the index located nearby of a window of the box.
- This balancing can be achieved by different means such as even number of wheel spokes or additional masses added to the wheel, in correlation with the number of boxes or symbols.
- the braking of the wheel with symbols as well as its immobilization in a position corresponding to one of the symbols using the piston located laterally on the housing are improved by cavities regularly arranged on the blank said wheel with respect to the symbols, the imprint of the cavities corresponding to the shape of the piston.
- the wheels carrying a series of numbers or symbols could be blocked in their significant position by blocking means such as pawls.
- the wheels carrying a series of numbers or symbols could be on one or more additional axes parallel to the first to form several rows superimposed, depending on the number of players.
- the wheel carrying symbols can be mounted loose on a separate horizontal or vertical axis.
- the symbols could be numbers or colored fields.
- the wheels carrying a series of numbers or symbols could be replaced by regular polyhedra.
- the upper face of the housing comprises a succession of windows aligned parallel to the length of the case, each window revealing a projecting wheel bearing numbers or symbols.
- some of the wheels bearing numbers can be mounted side by side to each other and appear through a single window.
- the upper side of the housing has a frame whose outline follows the periphery of the box and which surrounds the windows, this frame being subdivided into zones which have indexes located laterally to the windows, as well as labels.
- the framework, the descriptions and the indexes appear in relief on the upper face of the case; the indexes are of the same color or different and contrasting colors.
- inside and on the bottom of the housing are fixed several supports on a line parallel to the length of the case, the supports located at ends being further fixed to the side faces.
- the supports have in the middle of their upper face, a groove rounded in an arc of circle constituting a housing for the axis of the compact assembly; when the material used for the support has elasticity, said groove is designed in such a way that its shape prevents the axle from coming out of the support after its introduction in force.
- the supports receive an element matching the shape of their upper part and aimed at closing the groove after introduction of the axis, said element having a clamping effect on the support.
- spacers are mounted on the common axis and arranged on either side of the supports for eliminate all friction of the wheels with the supports, whether the wheels bearing numbers or symbols or the cogwheels.
- the supports and the elements having a spring effect can also be fully integral with the housing.
- a braking means consisting of a housing inside which are a piston and a spring, said piston being slightly projecting from the lateral face of the housing.
- the wheels bearing series of numbers may, like the wheel bearing symbols, be hollow in shape and have spokes in even numbers.
- the wheels bearing series of numbers are partially ballasted, and when triggering of a free rotation, undergo a pendulum effect before come to a stop in a position determined by the location of the ballast.
- the elements having a spring effect are integral with each other and pivot around of an axis.
- the spring-acting elements are held in position on the wheels toothed by springs.
- the wheels carrying series of figures can be automatically replaced in their initial position by a reset button, protruding from a face of the housing, and which, acting like a piston on the elements having an effect of spring, releases both the wheels with teeth and the wheels bearing series of figures, the latter immobilizing in their initial position by a suitable ballast.
- the wheels carrying information and the wheel bearing symbols can be protected by a folded or sliding cover.
- the shape of the case is a parallelepiped, a cylinder, a prism or a combination of these forms.
- the housing has the shape of a parallelepiped or a prism, the edges and the angles are rounded.

- the case 1 of wood or plastic has the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped.
- the upper horizontal face has windows 5 of the same size, aligned and located equidistant from the edges upper 12 and lower 13 of the face.
- a frame 2 inside which lines vertical 3 delimit zones 11, 24 by separating the windows 5 or two by two to materialize the sleeves or sets, either individually to differentiate the draw.
- Each zone 11, 24 has a wording 4 relating to the sleeve or by lot as well as indexes 7 located near the windows and aligned. Through the windows 5, projecting wheels 6 and 9 appear, with numbers 8 or 10 symbols on their edges.
- the compact assembly ( Figure 2) consists of a metal axis 14 or plastic material which fits into the supports 26 located inside the housing. On this axis 14 are mounted plastic wheels 6 and 9 of which the section is subdivided into eight boxes 17. The axial dimension of the wheels is much smaller than their diameter.
- the wheel 9 bearing symbols 10 is mounted idly on the axle 14 common ; here it is placed last on this axis.
- Said wheel 9 ( Figure 3) is for example hollow and is balanced by eight spokes 32 provided metal rings 33 intended to ensure the precise stopping of the wheel 9 on a box 17 or a symbol 10, so that it is visible in its entirety through window 5.
- the common axis 14 is advantageously maintained in the grooves 27 of the supports 26 by circlips 28, as shown in FIG. 4, this to prevent the axis from coming out of the supports during a reversal or occasional fall.
- the standard version includes seven wheels: six wheels 6 receive in their eight boxes 17 a series of numbers 8 in ascending order from 0 to 7 (possible number of games), each digit occupying a box, the seventh 9 receives in each of its eight boxes 17 a symbol 10 alternated, in this case, a racket and tennis balls.
- three wheels 6 carry a series of numbers 8 of red color for example, and three other wheels 6 carry a series of figures 8 of blue color for example. These colors each correspond to a player.
- the draw wheel 9, white by example, has symbols 10 with black outlines.
- the six wheels 6 are arranged alternately on the common axis 14 with respect to the color of the series of numbers 8, namely red, blue, and of this way form three pairs.
- the wheels 6 carrying a series of numbers 8 are advantageously coupled with smaller wheels 15 having teeth continues on their periphery and mounted on the common axis 14, by simple interlocking.
- the plastic gear wheels 15 cooperate by pawl with the ends of flexible elements 16 of the leaf spring type, fixed inside on the bottom 25 of the housing, and thus ensure the maintenance of wheels 6 carrying a series of numbers 8 in a position determined by relative to an index finger 7 located near the windows 5 laterally, position corresponding to the current result and modifiable by simple manual push.
- the number of teeth of the gear wheels 15 is an equal number or multiple of the number of boxes 17 appearing on the wheels 6 carrying a series of digits 8.
- the width of the spring leaves 16 is preferably slightly less than the width of the teeth, which aims to eliminate any friction with the flank of the wheel 6 carrying a series of numbers 8, and thereby suddenly prevent in the rotation of said wheel.
- keeping the wheels in position can be obtained by simple rubbing of elastic blades on rough, not toothed drums, replacing the aforementioned wheels 15.
- the numbers 8 and the symbols 10 are in relief on edge 30.
- small pins 31 juxtaposed along the periphery of the slice are for example made of a rubbery material; these lugs can, as a variant, be replaced by a rubber band extending over the entire circumference of the wheel.
- the operation of the device according to the invention is as follows: two players choose a number color from the two colors identifying the series of numbers and then drawing lots for the one who will have the initiative of choice.
- each player chooses a symbol appearing on the wheel of draw: one, the balls, the other, the racket, and one of the two turns the wheel giving it a strong boost.
- FIGS. 6 to 14 illustrate different variants of the device according to the invention.
- a version "Luxe” has a symbol wheel mounted on a ball bearing, fitted a stop button 38, as well as a reset button 48 consisting a piston and a spring enclosed in a housing, the piston coming abutment on an element integral with elements having a spring effect.
- FIG. 5 describes in detail this wheel 9 carrying symbols in this improved version.
- masses additional 34, distributed inside the wheel, cavities 36 formed in the sidewall of the wheel as well as a ball bearing 35 mounted on the axle 14 and at inside the wheel.
- a stop or brake button 38 or piston mounted with a spring 39 in a housing 37 fixed to the wall of the housing.
- the interest of the masses 34 is to ensure the balancing of the wheel, while that the cavities 36 distributed in a circle are each adapted to receive the end of the stop button.
- the variant shown in Figure 7 differs only from the standard version by the shape of its case which is cylindrical and which comprises a flat, even a base 49.
- This advantageously dimensioned variant has substantially the same footprint as a box of bullets tube shape, which makes the device particularly easy to transport.
- a "Competition” version has eleven wheels, ten of which correspond to the five innings of a match final for men.
- the ten wheels 6 carry numbers and numbers.
- a "Club” version has eleven wheels also. However, the ten wheels 6 bearing numbers and numbers are arranged by color in two superimposed rows 19, 20. The wheel 9 with symbols 10 is located laterally and mounted on an axle separate. The "Club” version rests on a support or hangs using legs 21.
- a "Referee” version includes fifteen wheels grouped by color, of which ten with numbers and numbers are mounted on a common axis symmetrically. On a second axis, parallel to the first axis and located below the first, five are mounted other wheels, four of which are arranged symmetrically with respect to wheel 9 bearing symbols 10 located in the center.
- the four wheels 45 and 46 serve, respectively, to display the points during normal games or games decisive. Said wheels bear numbers, numbers and letters and are also grouped by color.
- FIG. 12 represents a version for board games comprising twenty-one wheels, the wheel 9 bearing symbols being mounted on an axle separate and located in the middle of the case.
- the other twenty wheels grouped by color five by five are mounted symmetrically on two axes superimposed.
- Said wheels 6 carry numbers, numbers, letters, or signs. This choice of four groups of five wheels makes this device particularly well suited to games with three or four participants such as the little horses.
- Figure 13 shows another version for board games comprising thirteen wheels, the wheel 9 bearing symbols also being mounted on a separate axis and located in the middle of the housing.
- the symbols are advantageously related to the board game concerned.
- the twelve other wheels 6 grouped by color three by three are also mounted symmetrically on two parallel axes, here superimposed. However, wheels juxtaposed by three appear through a single window 47 of dimension corresponding to three adjacent wheels. Said wheels carry a series of numbers. This choice of four groups of three side-by-side wheels makes this device particularly well suited to card games such as belote to count up to 999.
- Figure 14 shows yet another version for games of society and sports games comprising seven wheels, wheel 9 bearing symbols being mounted on a separate axis and located in one of the corners of the housing whose shape is distinguished from other variants by the fact that it is triangular.
- the six wheels 6 bearing a series of numbers are mounted on two axes superimposed.
- the choice of this triangular arrangement to arrange two groups of three wheels, and a wheel at the top, makes this device particularly well suited to two-player games such as ladies, dominoes.
- the device according to the invention can be used or even adapted for many sports games with balls: half-court, squash, table tennis, but also with balls: volleyball, handball, football, rugby, basketball, or other sports such as badminton, polo, field hockey, ice hockey, etc. It is also usable for board games.
